Chapter 170 - Chapter 169: Luring the Tiger Out of Its Den

Soon, the people on the submarine began to believe some of Peacemaker's "nonsense."

Three hours after entering Bermuda, the submarine, as expected, lost all navigation and signal; they couldn't contact the outside World.

But Peacemaker still commanded with composure... at least Polka-Dot Man, Mongal, and others thought so.

What they didn't know was that Peacemaker also panicked when he first learned of the lost signal, but luckily, the "revelation" he regarded as a miracle once again prompted him at the critical moment.

It allowed him to guide the submarine's direction from the perspective of his dream. The former first mate, now captain, dared not oppose him and could only instruct his operators to follow his orders.

But then, they discovered that Peacemaker wasn't just giving random commands; the direction he guided them in was always an open sea area that the submarine could enter.

Perhaps... they could try to trust him?

Everyone in the submarine thought so.

The submarine continued for several hours. Peacemaker felt they were getting closer to their destination, so he immediately ordered the submarine to go into radio silence and also turned off the sonar radar.

"Our destination is ahead. Are the underwater detectors ready?"

As soon as Peacemaker asked, someone immediately replied:

"They are ready, three of them, all disguised."

Peacemaker nodded in satisfaction, then gathered the members of X-Squad.

"Trash, we've finally reached our destination. Now is the time to prove that your worthless lives still have a tiny bit of redeeming quality. I won't say anything else, put on your gear, and let's go!"

For this operation, Amanda could be said to have brought out all her hidden treasures.

She mixed some N Metal, which she had previously acquired from Hawkman, with other metal components to create four sets of alloy armor capable of moving freely in Water.

These were lighter than any deep-sea suit you could find on the market today.

However, due to technical reasons, this N Metal alloy battlesuit could not have stable energy output like Hawkman's battlesuit.

These battlesuits were equipped with Checkmate's highest energy density battery available, and this technology was even plagiarized from Vanguard Technology.

They could support Task Force X for 3 hours during intense combat; in energy-saving mode, it might extend to 5 hours.

Within this time, if they couldn't complete their mission, then this battlesuit would become their prison in the deep sea.

Peacemaker led the Task Force X members to the preparation room, where he saw the underwater detectors Checkmate had prepared for them, all disguised with biomimicry.

A giant sea turtle, a dolphin, and a large shark.

As soon as Nanaue saw the big shark, he pointed at it and shouted, "Big shark! Nanaue!"

"OK! It's yours, Blackguard, you go with Shark-head," Peacemaker directly assigned the teams.

Blackguard's face fell. He turned to look at the goofy-looking, drooling shark head, feeling a chill down his neck.

"I want this one!" Peacemaker unceremoniously chose the dolphin-shaped one, then assigned the remaining two members.

"Polka-Dot Man and Mongal, you two will take the last one."

Polka-Dot Man was immersed in his own mental World, passively accepting Peacemaker's arrangements.

Mongal was displeased, but with her life in someone else's hands, she could only comply.

With the personnel assigned, everyone except Nanaue put on their new underwater combat suits.

Despite being streamlined in weight, this underwater combat suit still weighed nearly a ton. If it weren't for the high-density energy battery support, they would have difficulty even standing up.

Equipped and seated in the biomimetic detectors, X-Squad finally set off for Atlantis.

On the bridge leading to the Atlantean Royal City, three incredibly ugly submarines joined the procession entering the city.

Inside the submarines, the X-Squad members marveled at the splendor of Atlantis while complaining about how ugly their own vehicles were.

"Compared to theirs, what we're driving is trash!"

"Trash for trash, isn't that good?" Peacemaker said indifferently.

He was quite satisfied with his ride, and the surrounding submarines were all mimetic designs, so their three external appearances could only be described as ugly, but not out of place.

Blackguard cowered in the corner, carefully manipulating the steering wheel.

He was having a hard time; besides paying attention to the direction, he also had to constantly make sure Nanaue didn't eat him.

And in the turtle submarine, Polka-Dot Man and Mongal were like two robots, with no verbal communication.

They eventually entered the city without incident, which was to be expected, as Dane was escorting them, making it difficult not to go smoothly.

Upon entering the city, a more spectacular and colorful scene immediately assaulted them.

Intricate city neon, three-dimensional rail transit, and countless marine creatures coexisting harmoniously with people. The civilian technology here was very advanced, and everything looked as if it had been naturally formed.

You rarely saw any very obvious artificial structures, like a style that highly revered natural aesthetics.

Atlantis truly lived up to its reputation as a city of miracles.

Blackguard sighed, "Guys, I suddenly feel like it's a shame to destroy all of this."

Not all X-Squad members were fools. Although they didn't know what they were doing in Atlantis, they knew that this trip was certainly not for peace.

Whatever they were going to do would bring misfortune to this city.

"Stop talking nonsense, do your job!"

"So now, can you tell us what we're supposed to do?" Mongal asked at this point.

Peacemaker looked around and casually said, "First, look around and see if we can find the most crowded area. Why do I feel like there are so few people here?"

"Because they are all in the Ring of Fire."

"Ring of what?" Peacemaker asked in surprise.

Polka-Dot Man pointed at the words on the city's large screen; it was 3D, like the neon of a cyberpunk city.

There was a giant half-human figure above it, a man with a full beard, and below him was a line of text... Polka-Dot Man read the words: "All citizens of Atlantis should proceed to the Ring of Fire to meet your King!"

"That's where it is!" Peacemaker immediately said.

They immediately changed direction and headed for the Ring of Fire.

It must be said that Atlantis's municipal system was really well-done; even outsiders like them could easily find the location of the Ring of Fire by following the road signs.

The three submarines approached the Ring of Fire and found that it was a huge arena, shaped like an ancient Roman coliseum.

Between the arena floor and the audience seating, there was a deep Undersea trench filled with boiling lava.

"No wonder it's called the Ring of Fire."

The name was quite fitting.

The three submarines hovered directly above the Ring of Fire arena, and Peacemaker seemed to be preparing something.

"Uh, brothers, whatever you're going to do, please hurry up. I think someone's coming," Blackguard said nervously.

During events at the Ring of Fire, any visible area directly above it was prohibited for any vehicles to pass through or hover.

X-Squad didn't understand this rule, so they committed a major taboo.

Immediately, a squad of Atlantean Soldiers, driving manta ray-shaped submersibles, came looking for them.

"Unknown vehicle, please identify yourselves! Unknown vehicle, please identify yourselves!"

"Peacemaker, what should we do?! Speak up!"

Mongal was also a bit nervous. She wasn't afraid of combat, but she had never fought in water before.

Moreover, this submarine was just a modified deep-sea probe, with no weapon systems installed.

If the enemy chose to open fire directly, they would simply become living targets!

At this moment, Peacemaker had already prepared his "weapon." He loaded the submarine and pressed the launch button.

A warhead with a thruster slowly swam towards the Ring of Fire.

The other members were stunned by this scene, then couldn't help but curse!

"Are you crazy? How could such a slow weapon hit anyone? It will definitely be intercepted!"

As if to confirm Blackguard's words were correct, the Soldier driving the manta ray submersible deflected its "head" and fired a water ion beam.

The beam was much faster than what Peacemaker had launched, and it exploded it in the blink of an eye.

"Retreat quickly!" Seeing this, Peacemaker immediately turned the "Dolphin" around and fled without a word.

Everyone else was stunned!

This was Checkmate's mission? Just launch a useless small torpedo and then run away?

For a moment, all of Task Force X felt like they had been played.

But they soon discovered this wasn't the case. After the torpedo exploded, a large mass of green unknown liquid suddenly gushed out from within, quickly dispersing into a cloud under the influence of the water current.

Tens of thousands of spectators in the Ring of Fire inhaled some of it unexpectedly, and one by one, they bent over, coughing.

The Soldier driving the manta ray immediately reacted, roaring into the channel:

"Enemy attack!!!"
