Chapter 46 - Chapter 46: The God of Death's Benevolence

After resentfully speaking their dying words, the five Imps vanished into ashes amidst the lightning.

"It's my first time seeing someone so shamelessly self-righteous. Very good, I have high hopes for you!"

Dane, feeling quite pleased after unleashing the lightning, bantered with Constantine.

"I don't have many virtues, but honesty is one of them," Constantine said without a hint of shame.

Dane looked at the Imps around them, whose bodies were utterly destroyed, and perfunctorily nodded: "Ah, yes, yes, yes."

After their exchange, Constantine expressed some concern:

"Nilgai is very difficult to kill here, and since you didn't kill it this time, it might try to escape."

Just now, Nilgai, that old fox, disappeared after being killed once by Dane's thunderbolt.

But it wasn't truly dead; it must have escaped to some part of the manor to regenerate.

As for where it went, Dane and Constantine could both guess: it was undoubtedly the main hall, where many people were gathered.

Nilgai, this Imp, had a peculiar habit of gathering captured humans to throw parties.

It and its Imp minions would then torment those poor souls at these parties, accumulating negative energy in the process.

But if it thought hiding there would give it an advantage in the upcoming battle, it was probably mistaken.

Dane replied to Constantine: "What do you think Batman and Diana are doing?" As soon as he finished speaking, the entire haunted house suddenly shook, and the ceiling crumbled, burying the blood pool.

It also buried the sin and blasphemy.

"May your lingering souls all find peace."

Dane held the Scepter, from which the power of the God of Death emanated a dark yet not eerie aura.

From beneath the rubble, from the corners, or from the cracks in the walls, tattered souls flew out.

The Scepter emitted a gentle White light, and the Black vortex at its center absorbed the lingering souls.

The God of Death is the guide of souls.

He is not cold; on the contrary, He is benevolent to all the deceased.

Dane did not consider their actions in life, did not judge their good or evil, and did not condemn them for making deals with Imps.

In the face of Death, all are equal.

No matter how many mistakes they made in life, Dane hoped that Death could bring their souls a final solace.

"Thank you..."

"I'm sorry, truly sorry..."

"Lord, please forgive my sins..."

"Lisa, my Lisa, I'm truly sorry..."

"Fuck. Demon! You. Hear. Me? Fuck. You!!!"

Dane listened to the murmurs around him, the last whispers of the dead.

Some were thanks, some were confessions, and some were final roars.

But moments later, they would all return to the embrace of Death.

Constantine watched him in shock. With his Yin-Yang eyes, he could see that Dane actually possessed the true 'divine status' that only a 'God' would have, much like the halo above an Angel's head.

It was so bright it almost blinded him!

"What the hell are you?!"

Constantine was certain that the original Shazam was definitely not like this.

He was almost becoming the true God of Death!

Dane raised an eyebrow, putting away the divine status he had acquired.

He hadn't expected that after trying for so long without success, he would, at this moment, when moved by compassion, naturally gain the recognition of the divine status.

He had become the newly appointed God of Death, even if it was only a half-dead Aztec deity, but it was still a genuine divine status!

In this small corner of the U.S., he could curse anyone to Death!

"The fight has started upstairs. Are you going up?"

Constantine shook his head wildly:

"I'm just a small fry. What would I do up there? Become extra food for Nilgai? I won't add to the chaos."

"Alright then, you can leave first."

"Uh, what was that?" Constantine seemed a bit embarrassed.

"John, just say it."

"Okay, it's about, Cuixi..."

"Don't worry, we will rescue her. This is a promise from a God."

With that, Dane struck the Scepter on the ground, and Constantine was teleported out of the Imp manor as if by phantom shift.

Constantine stood there stunned for a moment before cursing: "You're the God of Death!"

You're supposed to bring people back alive!

Dane put away the Scepter and flew up through the opened ceiling.

In the ballroom, at this moment, besides the Imp Nilgai and its minions, there were no longer any living humans.

Nilgai was almost driven mad. It had just regenerated in this hall and was about to grab a few tasty humans to replenish itself.

Who would have thought that they had all been taken away!

It also recognized the guy who had taken those people; it was the human who had killed it once last night.

Wearing a ridiculous pointed-ear costume, what do you think you are!

Nilgai gnashed its teeth in hatred, wishing it could devour him alive on the spot!

Nilgai had also coveted his soul for a long time; such a complex, special soul was something Nilgai had encountered for the first time in its Imp life.

So it unhesitatingly stepped forward, intending to eat him.

But this freak with a cleft chin suddenly raised his arm and fired a small missile.

Ridiculous! How could Nilgai fall to the same trick twice?

Nilgai enveloped itself in a magic shield, feeling completely secure.

Boom--!

Then it was blown to Death by an eternal metal missile. The magic shield was like paper, completely ineffective.

If Nilgai had seen "Black Adam," it would know this was normal.

After all, even a divine body couldn't withstand an eternal metal bomb, let alone a mere Imp like it.

But counting this time, this was the third time Nilgai had died in two days!

Moreover, the manor's energy source, the humans, had all been transferred outside the manor by Batman.

Even he himself had left during the time Nilgai was dead.

Nilgai had no choice; it had originally thought that if there were no living people, the dead lingering souls could at least provide temporary relief, but who knew that even the lingering souls were gone.

Who on earth could clean up a battlefield to this extent!

Nilgai also discovered that someone had already surrounded the manor.

They could no longer return to hell through magic 007, nor could they leave this manor.

"Los Angeles!" It quickly realized that the city spirit was behind it.

"One by one, they are all completely untrustworthy!"

Whether it was Constantine or Los Angeles, both had made agreements with it, but both had betrayed them.

Who exactly is the villain here?

At this moment, it was caught in a dilemma.

Suddenly, a woman shattered the ceiling and descended. She struck her shield on the ground with one hand, and sparks flashed with divine light.

Nilgai clearly saw her equipment, and its heart skipped a beat.

Its eyesight was quite good, allowing it to discern that these were all "holy artifacts."

But a human, even equipped with "holy artifacts," what could she possibly... Before it could finish its thought, Diana had already rushed forward impatiently.

She stomped her foot, and the floor tiles instantly collapsed.

This was definitely not human!

Nilgai almost cursed out loud, instinctively grabbing an Imp and throwing it out.

The godfire sword sliced it in two with a single strike, the cut smooth, and the blood seemed to not have even reacted yet.

Only upon landing did the Imp's body spray a two-meter-high column of blood.

Diana did not stop; she was incredibly fast, almost creating multiple afterimages in the hall.

Nilgai continuously threw its subordinate Imps as weapons, but they were all killed by a single sword stroke.

Its heart turned cold; this was definitely the top Imp killer!

Then, in a moment of inattention, Nilgai suddenly found itself bound by a rope emitting a golden light, unable to move.

"Pay for all the innocents you have harmed, Imp!"
