Walkin:
"I should go and be there for her."
I struggled to break free, but Iris wouldn't let me go.
She watched me with a deeply saddened expression, as though she couldn't understand why I was acting so unhinged.
It was as if they wanted to take care of everything for me.
"You don't get it," I said to Iris as my eyes shifted to Kash.
I felt so ashamed of myself. I couldn't even save my mate.
"Walkin, you don't need to feel guilty. It's not your fault. We will go and look for her, but you need to heal," Iris urged again, still not understanding why I was so desperate.
"You guys don't understand. I need to be there for my mate."
The moment I said those words, the two of them halted.
They turned to each other, then looked back at me.
"What did you say?" Kash asked.
He did not sound angry. There was hope in his voice.
Even Iris did a double take.
She looked at me, then at Kash, as if asking whether he had heard the same thing she had.
