I had no clue how I was keeping it together. My whole body felt ready to shatter, but I couldn't skip work.
Not after everything that went down. I desperately needed the paycheck, needed this job.
So here I was, squeezed into my uniform, making rounds at Velvet Crown like my heart wasn't completely destroyed.
But the second I walked in and spotted Irvin with Caroline, all my carefully built walls came crashing down.
The gossip was already flying around the lounge, buzzing in my ears like angry wasps. They're back together. Irvin Jenkin and Caroline—like nothing ever went wrong.
My chest squeezed tight as I battled the urge to stare at them. I threw myself into taking orders, wiping down tables, and flashing fake smiles at customers.
Anything to stop myself from breaking down completely.
