Chapter 157 - Tracking Bill Foster

The research continued for many days.

It finally stopped when the second-generation Venom Symbiote starved to death due to being separated from its "food" for too long.

Actually, "starving to death" was quite normal.

The Symbiote is a special kind of organism. As a living creature, it needs to eat, because biological activity requires energy.

If it's in a bonded state, it can naturally obtain energy from its host.

But now, it was separated from its host.

Moreover, before Peter separated it, and to prevent it from being exploited by people with ulterior motives, or simply breaking free, he deliberately extracted most of its biological activity, reducing its "lifespan" to the absolute minimum.

"Where did you get this stuff?" Dr. Foster asked Peter more than once.

But every time, Peter just shook his head, "I got it accidentally from a meteorite. I only found this much; it's all here."

"And the meteorite?" Dr. Foster pressed.

"Gone. Burned up by the time I got there. This was collected from the embers," Peter answered honestly... well, sort of.

Dr. Foster seemed quite regretful after hearing this.

This made Peter feel puzzled.

He always felt that Dr. Foster was concealing something.

It felt like his interest wasn't on the second-generation Venom Symbiote's biological activity, but on something else entirely.

But Peter couldn't force him to talk.

However, Dr. Foster did have a professional ethic.

He gave Peter all his findings from the past few days of researching the second-generation Venom Symbiote, including his experimental records and some of his own hypotheses.

Actually, Dr. Foster's research on the second-generation Venom Symbiote wasn't much different from Dr. Connors' research on the Venom Symbiote, which Peter had obtained from Spider-Man in another world.

Some of the details were even slightly inferior.

If you looked at it that way, it seemed like a bit of a loss.

But Peter had also been assisting Dr. Foster for the past few days, which was equivalent to taking a "Symbiote Special Research Course" taught one-on-one by a biology Ph.D.

This was a course that was hard to buy, even with money.

Not to mention, Peter's comprehension and learning abilities had significantly improved his knowledge of biology after all of this.

Even though he hadn't attended many classes at Columbia University, he felt that his knowledge of biology wasn't much worse than that of a typical first or second-year student.

– Peter clearly had some misconceptions about himself.

In fact, after a few days of contact with Spider-Man, Dr. Foster even thought that Spider-Man was a researcher specializing in certain areas.

Although he still lacked some refinement in certain areas of knowledge, his mastery of some knowledge was already quite high.

But Dr. Foster thought that Peter knew this himself, so he didn't mention it.

After all, no one would usually brag about something like that, right?

After seeing Dr. Foster off, Peter thought about it and couldn't suppress his curiosity.

His Spider-Sense had now evolved into a kind of incredible intuition.

Not just concerning potential dangers, but a kind of "premonition" about certain things.

He felt that Dr. Foster had definitely discovered something from the second-generation Venom Symbiote, but he had chosen to conceal it, not telling him.

So, Peter wanted to secretly tail Dr. Foster, hoping to glean something from his subsequent actions.

After Dr. Foster left the bio-lab, he first went to Avengers Headquarters, which was now also the Stark Industries Tower.

Peter had already given Stark a heads-up.

Thus, Dr. Foster quickly received his payment.

One million US dollars after taxes.

It was only for four days, equivalent to a daily salary of $250,000, which was extremely generous.

Among them, 700,000 were exchanged for various materials by Dr. Foster.

These materials were requested to be delivered to a warehouse in Los Angeles.

Subsequently, Dr. Foster purchased the next available flight and returned to Los Angeles.

To avoid being discovered, Peter opted for an "external cheat" to avoid paying for the flight.

As the plane was about to take off, he rushed onto it, attaching himself to the outside of the aircraft, following it all the way to Los Angeles, and then jumping off just before it landed.

If you want to avoid paying for a flight, you might want to give it a try too!

After getting off the plane, Peter received a message from Friday (Stark's AI assistant, Peter had asked Stark to help track Dr. Foster, and Stark had Friday fully assist him). Dr. Foster had contacted some companies again, and thought he was being discreet while purchasing a large number of items.

Thus, another 250,000 US dollars were spent.

After obtaining the list of these items, Friday analyzed that Dr. Foster should be conducting some research related to the Quantum Realm.

That actually made sense, considering his background as a quantum physics professor.

However, Friday then dug up some old files, which piqued Peter's interest.

The files showed that Dr. Bill Foster had once been Hank Pym's assistant.

And Hank Pym was the famous first Ant-Man.

Scott, who had previously interacted with Peter and said he wanted to introduce his daughter to him, was actually the second Ant-Man.

The Pym Particles, invented by Dr. Hank Pym, were the key element for the emergence of "Ant-Man."

It was said that Pym Particles were a mysterious substance extracted from the Quantum Realm by some method.

And S.H.I.E.L.D. had once conducted an experiment called "Goliath," in which Dr. Bill Foster was one of the experimenters who personally participated.

He was enlarged to 6.4 meters using Pym Particles, gaining around 10 tons of strength.

However, the project was later terminated due to its uncontrollability, the damage it inflicted on the test subjects, and Hank Pym's withdrawal.

"Could it be that Bill Foster bought these instruments to re-extract Pym Particles from the Quantum Realm and restart the Goliath experiment?" Peter wondered.

Friday's voice responded, "That possibility cannot be ruled out, Mr. Parker."

"Where is his laboratory most likely located?" Peter pressed, deciding to go and take a look himself and continue the investigation.

A thought flashed through his mind: Could the things Dr. Foster was hiding about the second-generation Venom Symbiote be related to the Quantum Realm?

Quantum Realm

Peter frowned.

If something on him were possibly related to the Quantum Realm, it was indeed the Glowing Spider-Web in his mind.

The Glowing Spider-Web's ability to allow his soul/consciousness to travel between parallel universes did indeed seem like a characteristic that only the Quantum Realm could possess and explain.
