Chapter 54 - Chapter 54: The Hidden Ability

Just then...

Sakeer recalled something.

When he had inquired about the two different Papermaking scrolls at the Magicians' Guild, he had specifically asked a guild member about them.

Yet, to his surprise, the guild member hadn't mentioned Second-Tier Papermaking at all.

Logically speaking, since Papermaking wasn't a combat spell and held no strategic value, there should have been no reason to withhold that information.

"Inferior alchemy material."

Sakeer's gaze lingered on the final line of the appraisal description.

He fell into thought.

The study of life magic was generally meant to enhance daily convenience or to aid in understanding higher-level magic principles.

If Zero-Tier Paper Making was intended purely for everyday use, then First-Tier Papermaking likely existed to cater to nobles, providing them with higher-quality materials to distinguish their documents from those of commoners.

It made sense — better paper for books, manuscripts, and records.

In fact, the paper produced by First-Tier Papermaking was already comparable to the high-quality paper Sakeer had seen in his previous life. For standard writing or crafting purposes, it was more than sufficient.

But if this world's inhabitants had taken the time to develop Second-Tier Papermaking, despite its limited practical use, then there had to be a specific demand driving it.

"Alchemy materials..."

The term nagged at Sakeer's mind. He searched his thoughts for clues but found none. In the end, he shook his head and set the matter aside for now.

"Wait a minute…"

Suddenly...

Sakeer's eyes widened in shock.

Something unusual caught his attention — both Heat Up and Papermaking had a new symbol beside them: "↑".

"What?!"

He stared at the glowing arrow as though he'd seen something impossible.

According to the established rules:

Level 1–7: First-Tier MagicLevel 8–14: Second-Tier Magic

With his Genius class currently at Level 9, Sakeer was restricted to learning and casting Second-Tier Magic at best.

Yet now...

Both Heat Up and Papermaking showed signs of advancing even further.

"How is this possible?"

Confused yet intrigued, Sakeer hesitated for a moment before spending a skill point to upgrade Heat Up.

[Skill: Heat Up (3rd Tier) ↑]

MP Cost: 15Effect: Raises the temperature of a touched object to 600°C within one minute and instantly heats it to 200°C.

Sakeer stood frozen in place, still processing what he'd just witnessed.

It wasn't just that Heat Up had become significantly stronger after its upgrade — the shocking part was that it had advanced to a Third-Tier Spell, something that should have been impossible at his current level!

Driven by curiosity, he spent another skill point.

[Skill: Heat Up (4th Tier)]

MP Cost: 20Effect: Raises the temperature of a touched object to 1,200°C within one minute and instantly heats it to 400°C.

Hiss...

Sakeer sucked in a sharp breath.

The power of Fourth-Tier Heating was staggering — 1,200°C was enough to melt steel with ease, nearing the temperature of molten magma.

And the ability to instantly raise an object's temperature to 400°C added a brutal layer of destructive potential.

"This... this isn't just life magic anymore..."

The implications were clear — at this stage, Heat Up was no longer a simple life spell. It had evolved into a potent offensive tool, capable of inflicting serious damage — or worse!

This time, there was no "↑" symbol.

Seeing this, Sakeer paused, his mind racing. After some thought, he nearly pieced together the reason.

"Could it be that the caster classes transformed by the 'Genius' class are calculated based on their combined caster levels?"

He muttered in surprise, still digesting the realization.

Initially, Sakeer believed that Genius was merely a basic class, a foundation without any special traits. But the situation before him suggested otherwise.

The reason Heat Up had jumped directly to Fourth-Tier Magic was simple — it met the level requirement for Fourth-Tier spells, which ranged from Level 22 to Level 28.

The only explanation for this was that the Genius class factored in the combined levels of the magic-related classes it could transform into.

Currently, Sakeer's combined caster classes were:

Sorcerer — Level 9Alchemist — Level 9Apothecary — Level 9

Total Caster Level: 27

Although both Alchemist and Apothecary were technically crafting-focused professions in YGGDRASIL, they still relied on magic to function. As such, they contributed to his overall caster level.

"That's it!"

Sakeer's eyes lit up with realization.

The Genius class didn't just copy the appearance of basic professions — it actually counted those professions' caster levels toward spell progression!

While this hidden ability didn't mean much for warrior-based professions, for casters, it was practically broken!

In YGGDRASIL, the magic system was divided into four distinct branches:

Arcane (Magic System)Divine (Faith System)Spiritual (Spirit System)Other Unique Systems

Each branch calculated its caster level independently.

For example:

Magician (Level 7) + Priest (Level 1) = Total Caster Level 8

Although this combined level technically reached Second-Tier Magic eligibility, the split between two systems meant that the player could only access First-Tier Arcane Magic and First-Tier Divine Magic — no Second-Tier spells at all.

This design discouraged hybrid builds, meaning most players specialized in just one magic system.

To unlock Tenth-Tier Magic in a single system, players had to dedicate at least 64 levels to one branch.

With only 36 remaining levels in YGGDRASIL's total 100-level cap, there was barely enough room to dabble in other systems — let alone develop a second high-tier caster build.

"Whew~"

Sakeer let out a deep breath and rubbed his temples, which throbbed slightly from the excitement.

He had initially believed the Genius class to be nothing more than a disguise — a superficial shell with no meaningful attributes or special abilities.

But now, he'd uncovered a hidden potential far greater than he'd imagined.

Genius was technically a general class, classified under basic professions with a maximum cap of Level 15.

But with this newfound ability...

If Sakeer mastered just five basic caster classes in a particular magic system — or four basic classes combined with one mid-tier class — he'd meet the requirements to unlock Tenth-Tier Magic in that system.

In other words, Sakeer could exploit this mechanic to fill out the caster levels for all four systems — Arcane, Faith, Spirit, and Other Systems — effectively bypassing the traditional limitations!

"This... this is basically cheating!"

Even in YGGDRASIL, such an ability was absurdly rare — borderline unfair.

And yet...

"Rare"... but not impossible.

In the game's library lore, there was a mention of a "special class" that illusionists could eventually unlock — one that wielded the strongest illusion magic exclusive to their class.

Rumor had it that this illusion magic could deceive the entire world, blurring the line between reality and illusion.

In the game itself, this ability allowed players to disguise their chosen magic system as any of the other three, effectively masking their true capabilities.
