Chapter 3 - Death trial

But how?

It was then that unfamiliar memories started flashing through James's mind.

These memories made him dizzy, and he fell back onto the hard floor.

This time, Alex frowned in frustration as he waved at the others. "Move back… leave space for air. Also, call the medical staff from my family."

James grabbed his head and waved his hand. "No need. Just give me a moment."

Alex himself stood up and moved back.

A black-haired girl behind Alex stared at him and then spoke aloud. "He must be affected by the curse."

James squinted his eyes, but then he saw others around Alex nodding their heads.

James wanted to confront her, but there was another chaos going through his mind, making him dizzy.

Alex cursed aloud. "I never expected that bitch to be so ruthless."

A skinny boy next to Alex said in a calm tone, "Alex, calm yourself. There are still 20 minutes left in the trial. We could look for somebody else."

Another black-haired, muscular boy said from the back, "But he is the best among the unawakened bloodline. Also, don't forget, if we have to replace him, then we need to find someone with the Demonic lineage."

Alex sighed and nodded to the bulky boy. "Marcin is right. There's no point in looking for anyone else. Also, don't forget Raul shares the Rikasi blood."

The moment James heard Raul, the pain in his head intensified as he clenched his fist.

What's going on here? Am I going to die even in the dream?

To cope with the pain, James smashed his head down on the pure white marble.

Bam!!

The loud noise attracted everyone's attention.

Alex even shouted, "Raul, calm down!"

He turned back to the boy with wet clothes in his hand and shouted, "John, go call the physician fast."

John shouted aloud, "Yes, young sir." With that, he sprinted out of the hall.

The girl once again clicked her tongue. "Alex, he has already lost it. I don't think it's safe to take him with us."

Just then, James sat up and mumbled, "Liya, shut up. Your snarly voice is increasing my headache."

Everyone turned around and saw Raul sitting there with a trickle of blood flowing down his forehead.

Alex rushed next to him. "Brother, are you—"

James cut him off as he pressed his forehead and asked, "How much time remains?"

The muscular boy, Marcin, answered him. "Eighteen minutes until the pull."

James looked around as he saw a dozen teens standing next to him.

The stinging pain with the headache made him realize the reality as a couple of names popped into his mind until finally one stuck: Raul Rikasi.

The third young master of the Rikasi family.

He instantly sobered up as it hit him that he had woken up in a new body.

Just now, he had gone through bits and pieces of Raul's entire life from his childhood till his last breath.

What was bizarre was that this Raul guy actually died from the shock when he received his own marriage nullification letter.

James knew that something was amiss here; still, he found it so pathetic that he wanted to curse aloud.

James… no, from now on, he was Raul Rikasi. The new soul and owner of this body.

He did not have to think a lot as he instantly decided to dump his old past.

There was no point in dwelling on his past life.

Now that he was given a chance, he decided to start a new life.

He did not know how or why he got this chance, nor did he care.

While still in pain, he just blinked and mumbled, "Well, thank you. But sorry, don't expect anything from me."

Raul had already experienced too much that he just did not care about resolving someone else's past grudge.

Six months in bed had already taught him that life was too short to live for somebody else.

He would only live for himself and himself alone.

Just then, the same snarly voice snapped him out of his trance. "Raul! Raul! Is he out again?"

Raul looked up and asked, "Did anybody leave?"

At this, everyone became silent.

Raul was still not sure exactly what was going on here, but from the memories, he knew this world was different from Earth.

Even though it was modern, there was a constant war going on between humans and these ethereal creatures that humans called Horrors.

From the urgency in old Raul's memories, he knew that everyone gathered in the hall was about to enter the death trial.

It was an annual ritual where teenagers at 18 years old had to enter the Trial of Light to either awaken their bloodline or die to the Horrors waiting inside.

Just then, the skinny guy broke the silence and said in a low tone, "Celina and her two simps quite the team after the incident."

Raul immediately understood what incident it was.

He just stared at the guy for a moment when memories related to the boy flashed through his head. Much of it was blurry.

Alex added, "With her gone, we now only have Liam from the cursed bloodline lineage."

The moment Alex said the skinny guy's name, it was like a missing piece added to the puzzle as related memories came flooding to his mind.

He instantly remembered that to perform well in the trial, Alex and old Raul had formed a group of twenty teens.

He looked at the core team standing next to Alex as a couple of pieces of information about their bloodline manifestation popped into his head.

The black-haired Liya standing behind Alex had manifested the Beast Lineage bloodline.

Then the muscular Marcin had manifested the Hold bloodline.

Then there was skinny Liam with his Cursed bloodline manifestation.

The leader of this team was Alex, with his Demonic bloodline manifestation.

Raul looked around as another face popped up in his head, and he asked, "Where is Nelsa?"
