"Now use Magical Leaf!"
After using Rototiller to boost the Attack and Special Attack of his Grass-type Pokémon, Ethan Black ordered Cacturne to switch to a long-range move.
Together with Shellder, Meltan, and the other Pokémon, they began laying down covering fire against the wave of Ekans charging toward them.
Finally, Trapinch used Gust, creating a whirlwind of sand in the middle of the storm that quickly spread across the ground. The current lifted a large number of Ekans into the air and threw them away, preventing them from getting any closer.
Despite the fierce offensive of the Ekans, the sandstorm and the tilled terrain blocked their advance, unable to approach the cave where Ethan Black and Jasper Reid were.
When the battle ended, the result was disastrous: of over a hundred Ekans, more than half had fallen dead or severely injured. The few remaining were battered and in very poor condition.
"Rooaar!"
At that moment, roars echoed from outside the battlefield.
Shadows began moving swiftly among the trees, approaching the area where the fight was taking place.
"What Pokémon could it be this time?"
Ethan Black and Jasper Reid exchanged glances, feeling a weight in their hearts.
In the previous fight, they had only managed to withstand the Ekans assault thanks to perfect coordination. And now, another Pokémon was approaching... a very bad sign.
"Abbssss!"
A new roar sounded, and then, a white figure leaped from the forest, landing at the edge of the battlefield.
"That Pokémon is... Absol!"
Seeing the Pokémon clearly, Ethan Black could not hide his surprise.
Although Absol is a Dark-type Pokémon, its fur is white as snow. Areas without that thick fur are a bluish-gray. On the right side of its head extends a curved horn, similar to a scythe, which Absol uses to sense disasters before they occur.
"It really is an Absol! It's incredibly rare!"
Jasper Reid recognized it instantly as well, as astonished as Ethan Black, with amazement in his eyes.
"Absol has a gentle nature. It is said to only appear to people when it senses imminent danger."
"Could it be that it came because it sensed we were in danger?"
"In any case, by its nature it shouldn't be an enemy."
Ethan Black, recalling the information from the Pokédex, let out a relieved sigh.
In the real world, where Pokémon had only coexisted with humans for 23 years, the belief that Absol is a "harbinger of misfortune" had not yet arisen. To people, Absol was nothing more than a rare Pokémon, and its ability to foresee danger was still unknown.
"Ethan, look... more Pokémon are coming behind Absol."
Jasper Reid's voice sounded again, and from the trees emerged Rattata, Raticate, Zigzagoon, and other Pokémon.
"Don't worry, maybe they've come to help us."
Ethan Black, though cautious, ordered his Pokémon to fall back.
The Ekans and Arbok present also noticed Absol and its companions arriving, retreating cautiously.
At that moment, a tense three-way standoff formed, with none willing to strike first.
Then, Absol suddenly leaped and ran swiftly toward Ethan Black.
"It's coming this way!"
Jasper Reid tensed, but Ethan Black held him back.
"Stay here, I'll go out."
"Go out? It's too dangerous, it's a wild Pokémon!"
"Calm down, everything will be fine."
Ignoring Jasper Reid's protests, Ethan Black exited the cave. Sandslash and the other Pokémon tried to follow, but he signaled them to stay.
"I trust Absol."
Although his hand instinctively hovered over Dusknoir's Poké Ball—which he still couldn't command but could release as a shield in case of emergency—Ethan Black knew Absol wouldn't harm him. Its mere presence there was a show of trust he couldn't waste.
Seeing him approach alone, Absol relaxed its gaze.
"Absol, have you come to propose an alliance? You can see the situation: the Ekans and Arbok are in very bad shape. If we join forces, we can finish them off."
Just as Ethan Black had assumed, Absol had no ill intentions. In fact, it had come precisely to ask for help.
In no time, they reached an agreement. Both looked at the enemy group with determination.
"Abbssss!"
Absol's roar echoed, and its group of Rattata, Raticate, and other Pokémon charged at the Ekans.
"Alright, we'll go too."
Ethan Black gave the order, and his Pokémon—already recovered thanks to the antidote—joined the fight. The tide of the battle began to turn in their favor.
"Now we've got this."
Ethan Black turned his gaze to Absol, who was now battling one-on-one against the lead Arbok.
Boom!
The fight between them was fierce. The lead Arbok used its venomous fangs and tail to maintain constant pressure with its potent poison, but Absol endured, dodged, and counterattacked with precision.
