Chapter 3 - Chapter 3- who am I?

Leigh's POV

"La la la la la la…"I hummed as I walked down the road toward the ice cream shop. I missed eating ice cream, so I thought of buying some.

I left Yssa behind at the bench because I knew she was tired and hungry. I planned to cook at the dorm so we could eat there. I'd noticed she didn't really mingle with others, rarely smiled, and barely talked.

But even though she's like that, I know she's a good listener and not fake — unlike others here at the academy who only care about appearances. That's why I like her and want her to be my best friend.

After buying chocolate ice cream, I also bought chicken meat to cook fried chicken. Even though this place is magical, we still eat mortal food. I know this because I've been to the mortal world once. But I live here in Impona, and this is where I grew up.

Suddenly, I thought about what kind of power Yssa has. Wahhh! I'm so excited to find out! Hmph. As for me, I can make objects float.

I was about to leave the supermarket when I heard squeals from the girls nearby. They're here!!! Kyahhhh! I wanted to scream too, but I felt shy. I peeked into the cafeteria to confirm if the Best 6 — or B6 — were really there. When I finally spotted them, I literally jumped for joy.

I'm so lucky! I finally saw them again after almost a week. I'm one of their admirers. Aside from being super handsome, they're also skilled fighters with powerful abilities. They're every girl's dream here — even just catching a glimpse of them is enough. It's strange though… none of them seem interested in any girl. Hmmm… oh well. Still, I'm so lucky to be here today. I should've brought Yssa so she could see them too. But never mind. Classes start tomorrow, so we'll see them every day.

Yssa and I are actually classmates with the B6, but I'm sure she won't even notice them because there are so many of us in one room. I left the supermarket skipping with joy.

"Kyyaaaahhhhh!" I squealed. "Sht! Sht! They're so handsome!" Wahhh! I really can't help myself when it comes to good-looking guys.

But when I reached the bench where I'd left Yssa, she was gone. Only the stuff we'd bought was left there. "Oh no, where's Yssa? Waaahhh! Where's my Yssa? Is she mad at me for leaving her? This is my fault. She's new here and I left her. What if she's lost? Huhuhu, fairies please help me."

I scanned the area and noticed two girls under a big tree. One was sitting with her face covered while the other stood there, looking serious, as if she had just said something.

When I realized who the standing girl was, I rushed toward them. I could hear the crying girl's sobs even as I walked closer.

Did Yssa fight with her? No, that's not like Yssa! But why is that girl crying? I'll have to ask Yssa later, though she's not really good at explaining things. Aissh, never mind.

"Yssa!" I called out as I approached. The girl was still crying, though not as much now. Yssa must have heard me because she turned toward me. I waved a little and smiled.

And then I froze at what she did next — she smiled at me. She smiled!!! Sh*t.

Yssa is so beautiful even without trying, but when she smiles, she's even more stunning. She has long black wavy hair, long eyelashes, a pointed nose, sleepy eyes, pinkish lips, and a perfectly shaped face. Add to that her fair complexion — she really looks like a goddess. But most of the time, she's just poker-faced.

Because she smiled today, I'm going to prepare a feast! Haha! I'm so happy she smiled even just once.

Yhessa's POV

"Wait for me at the bench," I told Leigh. I needed to talk to this girl first. She looked so pitiful.

I overheard her ex earlier. It seemed she still loved him and wanted to get back together, but he shouted at her and called her desperate. That's why she was crying.

I've never been in a relationship before, but I know how bad that must feel. I sighed. Looks like my words of wisdom will be tested here.

"You know, miss," I told her, "don't beg for someone to be in your life. If you do your best and still get ignored, walk away. They only realize your worth when it's too late. Rejection makes you stronger, not weaker, because sometimes you need to let go — not for your ego but for your self-respect. I know it's hard to accept, but you have to. That's the truth."

With that, I walked away. I could always count on my dramatic lines.

When I got back to the bench, Leigh was there waiting. She immediately smiled at me and stood up.

"Let's go!" she said excitedly, pulling me along. She was bouncing while walking, holding the stuff we bought.

This girl is crazy.

"You know, Yssa, I'm so lucky I went to the supermarket earlier! Kyyaaaahhhhh!" That's all she kept saying until we reached the dorm. She wouldn't tell me why yet but said I'd find out tomorrow or in the coming days.

I started arranging the things we bought while Leigh went to the mini kitchen to cook. She said she was celebrating something. I had no idea why — maybe it's her birthday?

"Dinner's ready!" she shouted. I grabbed a plate and started eating. The fried chicken she made was delicious. She told me that food here was just like food in the mortal world.

"By the way, I'll tell you all about this world and the academy!" she said happily, chewing as she spoke. Tss. This girl really can't wait.

I stayed silent and just listened. I also wanted to know more about this place and if it had anything to do with me or my parents. But one thing I'll always remember: "Never trust anyone." I'll only show them my earth element so they won't question me or dig into my identity.

"Impo Academy is a school located here in Impona. Impona is where people with abilities live — including witches, sorcerers, and wizards. Impona is divided into two kinds of people: us, and those from the Black Society, where the Dark Academy is. They're our mortal enemies. The people there are greedy and evil. Even now, they're always trying to become stronger and take over the world…" she said, then paused to take another bite.

"Impona isn't like the mortal world. Things impossible in the mortal world are possible here. Impo Academy, short for 'Impossible,' is a school of impossibility where you can do anything possible. We study here to hone our abilities and prepare for attacks from the Black Society," she continued. So there are conflicts happening in this place too.

"That's all I'll say for now. Your head might explode, haha!" she ended, then stood up to clear her plate.

I just sighed at her chattiness. I know she's kind, but I still can't trust her or tell her my secret about having multiple powers. I've kept it hidden for a long time.

I don't know why I'm like this when my father only had one power. But he told me I'm special because of my magic and abilities.

I can't show them my true self until the right time comes. But when will that be?

Could it be that there are other students like me who also have multiple powers?

"Go to sleep now, Yssa. We have class tomorrow," Leigh said, breaking my thoughts. She was done washing the dishes.

"Ahmm… Leigh, is it possible for someone to have multiple powers?" I asked. She gave me a puzzled look.

Did I say something wrong, or is she just curious why I asked?

"Why are you asking that?" she said, staring at me. Sorry, but I still can't tell anyone yet — not even you. Who knows if a demon hides behind your angelic face. Looks can be deceiving.

"It's nothing, it just crossed my mind," I lied. She thought for a while, then sat on the sofa.

"Actually, I don't know either. As far as I know, everyone here only has one power. So someone can't have multiple powers," she told me. If it's impossible, then why do I have so many powers?

I'm confused about myself. It feels like I don't even know who I am.

Who am I?
