The reason he wanted the doctor and the nurse was simple.
They were the most beautiful women in the entire hospital.
It had nothing to do with grudges.
It was pure lust—he wanted to finally possess the goddesses he had never been able to touch before the disaster.
From outside the door, his voice rang out again, thick with mockery.
"Director Lee, don't worry. I'm not greedy."
"I've never enjoyed a woman like her in my life."
"So just hand over one of them."
"I swear, once I get her, I'll take my men and leave this hospital immediately."
The words echoed through the sealed floors.
The doctors and nurses instantly grew restless again.
They all turned to the middle-aged man standing at the center—Director Lee—who still had his eyes closed, saying nothing.
"Director Lee, listen to reason."
"As long as we give up one, everyone else survives."
"Yeah! Are you really going to let all of us die just to protect two people?"
"Enough already!"
A long sigh escaped Director Lee.
Slowly, he opened his eyes and looked toward the two women standing not far away, their heads lowered.
They were unmistakably beautiful.
One wore a pink nurse's uniform, her big, clear eyes trembling with fear. She looked about twenty-four or twenty-five—the most beautiful nurse in the entire city hospital: Emily Dunn.
The other wore a white doctor's coat. Tall, with long legs and an elegant figure, nearly five-foot-nine. She looked to be in her early thirties and was widely regarded as the most beautiful female doctor in the hospital: Dr. Anna Lee.
Anna was also related to Director Lee.
She was his niece.
Before the disaster, their admirers could circle the building several times over.
But now—
One of them had to be handed over to the man outside.
To that yellow-toothed, scar-faced monster.
Director Lee had already made his decision.
He didn't trust the man's promise—but if the door broke, everyone would die.
At least this way… some could live.
His gaze shifted back and forth between the two women, pain flickering in his eyes.
Logic said he should protect his niece.
But Emily…
After the disaster, she had saved his life.
If she hadn't dragged him away in time, he would have been crushed under a collapsed cabinet.
Over the past ten days, she had done more than anyone.
She was the one who found instant noodles during supply runs.
She shared everything she found.
Everyone here had eaten food she brought back.
Handing her over—
Many people should have objected.
But when Director Lee hesitated, the voices around him suddenly rose.
They weren't defending her.
They were condemning her.
"Emily, stop being so selfish!"
"Why aren't you stepping forward already?!"
"Do you want all of us to die for you?"
"Dr. Anna is Director Lee's niece!"
"Are you trying to force her out instead?!"
"That's right, Emily—get up!"
"Go outside already!"
"Don't make us drag you out ourselves!"
Director Lee froze.
He hadn't expected the people he had protected to turn on her so ruthlessly.
But hesitation lasted only a moment.
He was never a saint.
The instant those words were spoken, his resolve hardened.
He looked at the trembling nurse and spoke calmly—almost gently.
"Emily… everyone has no other choice."
"Why don't you make the sacrifice?"
"Honestly, that man is just a bit older… and uglier."
"He's a superpowered individual."
"In this world, being with a superpower isn't really suffering."
"That's right," someone echoed.
"A superpower wants you personally."
"You should be honored."
The words fell like knives.
Emily's fingers clenched tightly.
Her shoulders shook.
And the iron door behind her creaked again under another violent kick.
Time was running out.
"You… you…"
For a moment, Emily felt as if everyone had stabbed her in the back at once.
Listening to the words around her, seeing those familiar faces filled with avoidance, fear, and cold resolve, her vision blurred. Tears rolled uncontrollably down her cheeks.
"You… you…"
Her voice trembled.
"How can you do this?" she asked softly."Yes… I gave everyone the food I found. Everyone survived because of it. How can you treat me like this now?"
Emily was never a strong-willed person.
She was gentle by nature, someone who avoided conflict whenever possible. But now, pushed to the edge with nowhere left to retreat, she could only cling to the one thing she had—truth.
She wasn't lying.
If not for the supplies she had brought back, no one here would still be alive.
Yet now, those very people were ready to throw her out like trash.
A sneer came from the crowd.
"Hey, all you did was bring some food. Don't act like a saint."
"Wasn't it just a few packs of instant noodles?"
"Fine, I'll transfer you a thousand bucks right now."
"I'll give you ten thousand. That should cover it."
The words were shameless.
Everyone knew money meant nothing anymore.
But they still used it—cheap excuses to erase their guilt.
Some people flushed red with embarrassment and turned away.
Others straightened their backs, emboldened by the cruelty of the crowd.
Step by step, they moved closer.
They were already preparing to drag her out by force.
"No… no…"
Emily struggled desperately as hands grabbed her arms.
"Sister Anna, please—say something!"
She turned her head toward the tall doctor beside her.
Anna was her best friend.
The only one here who could still speak with authority.
The only other woman the man outside wanted.
If Anna said something—anything—maybe things would change.
But Anna didn't look up.
She kept her head lowered, eyes fixed on the floor, as if the world around her no longer existed.
As if Emily's fate had nothing to do with her.
Anna understood.
Only one of them could be sacrificed.
And she was not a saint.
I'm sorry, Emily.
"Hurry up!" someone shouted.
"Open the door and throw her out!"
"Close it immediately afterward!"
Director Lee gave the order.
Several strong doctors and nurses seized Emily and dragged her toward the security door.
"No! Please—no!"
Her screams echoed through the stairwell, raw and desperate.
Bang!
The heavy door swung open.
Emily was shoved forward and fell hard onto the cold floor outside.
Before she could even turn around—
Clang!
The security door slammed shut and was locked from the inside.
No hesitation.
No looking back.
On the other side of the door, silence.
Outside, Jack paused mid-bite when he saw her.
A stunned second passed.
Then his face twisted into a wide, ugly grin.
"Hahaha!"
"I didn't expect those cowards to really throw someone out."
He stepped forward, eyes roaming over her face.
"Oh damn… what a beauty."
"She's mine now."
He grabbed a fistful of her hair and yanked her upright, yellow teeth flashing as he laughed.
Around him, his men leaned in, eyes shining.
"Boss, she's gorgeous!"
"I've never seen anyone this pretty."
Emily's knees buckled.
Her world collapsed in that instant.
One by one, the men around them reacted with shock and excitement.
"Don't worry," Jack said lazily, wiping his mouth."After I'm done enjoying her—I'll let you brothers have your turn."
He spoke as if she were nothing more than property, a reward to bind his subordinates' loyalty.
"Thanks, boss!"
The men erupted in cheers, their gazes turning feral as they stared at Emily, licking their lips, desire barely restrained.
"No… please…"
"Mr.… please…"
"I can work for you—do anything—just don't touch me!"
"Please… don't…"
Emily's voice was breaking. She knew, deep down, what awaited her. Tears streamed down her face as she begged for mercy, clinging to the last shred of hope.
Jack sneered.
"What can you do for me?""Your only value is this body."
He leaned forward, tongue flicking out—
"Ah—!"
Suddenly, a sharp pain exploded in his neck.
Emily had pulled a thick medical needle from her pocket and stabbed it forward with everything she had left.
Blood spilled as Jack stumbled back, screaming.
"Don't come any closer!" Emily shouted, gripping the needle with both hands, eyes wild as the men froze in surprise.
Even someone like her had prepared a way to survive.
She'd carried the needle for emergencies—never imagining she'd use it like this.
But courage born of despair never lasts long.
Smack!
"You bitch!"
Jack backhanded her, sending her crashing to the floor.
"Almost killed me."
His expression twisted into something vicious.
"Break her limbs."
"Tie her up."
"I'll make her beg later."
"Someone bandage me. Now."
The men moved.
Emily screamed.
Pain overwhelmed her senses as she was restrained, the world spinning violently around her. She couldn't even struggle anymore—only whimper weakly as consciousness slipped in and out.
Her vision blurred.
She stared at the sealed security door in front of her.
At the people who had thrown her out.
Hatred burned hotter than pain.
She hated Jack.
But even more—
She hated those doctors and nurses inside.
The people who had eaten the food she brought.
The people who had smiled at her.
Who abandoned her without hesitation once she lost value.
If there is another life…I'll make you all pay.
Her thoughts dissolved into darkness.
Then—
Crackle.
Thunder roared through the corridor.
Screams erupted.
"What the hell—?!"
Emily's eyes fluttered open.
She saw bodies collapsing—smoke rising.
Jack stood frozen, eyes wide in terror.
BOOM.
A bolt of lightning struck him head-on.
His body collapsed lifelessly to the ground.
Two figures appeared at the end of the hallway.
A young man—tall, calm, eyes cold as lightning itself.
Beside him, a long-haired girl wearing a mask.
"W-Who…?"
Emily barely managed to whisper.
Then she felt something impossible.
Her broken limbs returned—reattaching seamlessly, warmth flooding her body.
"No… am I… dead?"
The shock overwhelmed her.
Her consciousness faded completely.
—
"Damn," Elric muttered, glancing at her."Another second later and she'd have died."
He flicked his finger.
BOOM.
Lightning erased what remained of Jack.
"Almost lost a qualified adopter."
The girl on the ground was precious.
Very precious.
A translucent panel appeared in Elric's vision:
Name: Emily
Appearance: 94
Figure: 92
Quality: 100
Elric exhaled softly.
"Worth it."
