Chapter 3 - Choices of the Heart

The light of the central platform faded slowly, leaving Elyra breathless, her muscles aching but her mind razor-sharp. The labyrinth behind her had sealed itself shut for good. Every vibration in the ground reminded her this universe was merciless.

"Welcome to the second trial," the boy announced as he stepped closer, his smile still there but more enigmatic now. "This time, it's not just about surviving. It's about choosing… and feeling."

"Choosing what?" Elyra asked warily.

"Who you want to become here… and what you're willing to sacrifice."

Suddenly, the floor beneath them split open, and they plummeted into another space, suspended in the void. In front of them, two portals materialized: one glowing with crystalline blue light, the other burning with fiery red. Each portal shimmered with shifting visions.

In the blue, Elyra saw images of her real world: her family, her friends, her apartment… the life she knew and cherished. In the red, a blazing parallel world where she was admired, powerful—yet utterly alone, standing only beside the boy.

"See?" he said softly. "Blue: safety, familiarity. Red: power, recognition… at the cost of something precious."

Elyra's heart tightened. The red was seductive—she could feel the adrenaline, the power, the wonder of that world. But the blue reminded her of everything she risked losing.

"You need to decide quickly," the boy murmured. "The labyrinth won't stay neutral forever."

Her hands trembled. Was she ready to give up everything she knew for an ideal she had never lived? And what did this mysterious rival truly want? A shiver ran down her spine: something in his gaze, in his words, hinted that even her feelings could be manipulated.

She stepped toward the blue… then toward the red… and at last, she closed her eyes, clenched her fists, and whispered:

"I won't choose what I don't understand. I'll… carve my own path."

The red and blue flickered, and the portals fused into a whirlpool of pure light. Elyra was pulled in, the sensation dizzying. Her heart pounded faster than ever, and an echo rang in her mind:

"The choices of the heart are never simple… and yours has just decided for all."

When she opened her eyes again, she stood on a crystal bridge suspended over an endless void. The boy was beside her, arms crossed, a mysterious smile tugging at his lips.

"Not bad," he said. "Very few dare to reject the easy options. You've got guts. But the real test starts now."

At that moment, shapes began to rise from the abyss: half-human, half-ethereal creatures, their eyes glowing with a haunting light. They moved silently, as though weighing Elyra's every step.

"Welcome to the true trial," the boy murmured. "Here, your choices and your emotions will guide not only your fate… but also the fate of those around you. And believe me—you won't be the only one to feel the pain."

Elyra clenched her teeth. Fear clawed at her, but she wouldn't let it win. Every step, every decision, would be a battle against this world, against the mystery of the boy… and perhaps against the stirrings of her own heart.

She drew a deep breath and pressed forward. The labyrinth, the boy, the portals—all of it had only been the beginning. The real game, the one that tested courage, intelligence, and heart, had just begun.

And somewhere in the shadows, the boy's smile grew even more enigmatic, as if he knew something Elyra would only discover at the cost of great trials.
