Chapter 2 - The First Trial

The ground beneath Elyra's feet seemed to crack suddenly, as if the world itself wanted to test her resolve. The purple sky darkened in patches, casting shifting shadows that pulsed with the rhythm of her heartbeat.

"You'll understand quickly," said the boy, stepping forward with an almost supernatural ease. "You're not here to admire the view."

"And… what exactly is this?" she asked, trying to mask her fear with a hint of pride.

An hologram appeared above the cracked ground: a complex labyrinth, its walls made of moving light and energy, every turn vibrating with unseen danger.

Initial Trial: Navigate the Mirror Maze. Every mistake will have real consequences. Survive, and you'll have a chance to return to the real world.

Elyra swallowed hard. The stakes were clear: one misstep, and the consequences would not be virtual.

"I suggest you stay close to me," the boy said with a sly smile. "After all, I wouldn't want you to get crushed… or worse."

"Listen, I don't need you," she shot back, the fire of defiance burning in her eyes. "I can do this on my own."

But no sooner had she taken her first step into the labyrinth than the ground shook violently. Walls of light slammed shut behind her, cutting off any escape. Elyra felt her stomach twist. Fear gripped her—but a part of her burned with adrenaline: this was it, the real challenge, the moment to prove she was more than just a lost fan in an unknown world.

"First rule," she whispered to herself: observe before acting.

Every corridor reflected her image—but with strange variations: one version hesitant, another panicked, and sometimes… a version grinning mischievously, as if the labyrinth could read her thoughts.

"This is confusing," the boy said, stopping beside her. "But the key is simple: what you see isn't always what's real."

"Easy for you to say," Elyra snapped, gritting her teeth. "You seem to know exactly where to go."

"Maybe," he shrugged, "but don't think I'll hold your hand. Survival is a personal matter."

Elyra took a deep breath and moved forward. Her hands brushed a wall of light, and suddenly, an invisible trap triggered. She was thrown backward, hitting the ground hard. Her ears rang, and a trickle of blood appeared at the corner of her mouth.

"See?" he said calmly, as if it were nothing. "Every move matters. Even the smallest one."

"I… I can do this," she murmured, rising to her feet. "I won't give up."

The labyrinth seemed to respond to her determination. Walls of light rippled, some retreating slightly to offer passage, others closing in, threatening. Elyra had to combine instinct, analysis, and speed.

At one point, she reached a crossroads where two identical paths opened. The mirror on the floor reflected two versions of herself—one hesitant, the other confident. Her instinct whispered a choice: follow the path where her reflection moved forward without fear.

As she stepped into that corridor, a familiar voice echoed behind her:

"Not bad. You learn quickly. But beware… the labyrinth doesn't forgive twice."

Elyra's heart raced. She still didn't know if she could trust him, or if every word was a game to unnerve her. But one thing was certain: she had survived the first set of traps. And that small victory sparked a mix of adrenaline and defiance within her.

The labyrinth finally opened onto a central platform, bathed in intense light. The boy crossed his arms and smiled:

"Congratulations, Elyra. You've passed your first trial. But this is just the beginning. Here, every choice you make, every emotion you feel… will have an impact. And trust me, the next challenge… might touch your heart."

Elyra stood tall, wiping the blood from her chin, her eyes shining. The thrill of the unknown, the tension with this mysterious rival, and the promise of new trials made her heart race faster than ever.

"Very well," she whispered. "I'm ready for the next one."

And in that very moment, the labyrinth seemed to breathe around her, as if the world itself knew the real game had only just begun.
