Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: The Game Continues

In the lounge, John Smith, having recovered from his frustration, was comfortably petting his Pokémon.

"Petting a Pokémon is truly the most enjoyable thing in the world."

Stroking the fluffy Shinx in his arms, John couldn't help but sigh.

Perhaps agreeing with John's sentiment, or perhaps simply enjoying the petting, Shinx also let out a cute growl.

"Meow~ = ̄ω ̄="

After petting his Pokémon for a while, John took out his phone from his pocket and checked the time.

"It's only a little past ten. Brother Zach doesn't get off work until half past eleven. I can't just stay here for an hour, can I? Forget it, I'll go online and find some fun."

Feeling a bit bored, John swiped open his phone, intending to find something fun online, and then... "Holy crap, I was so focused on being happy, how could I forget this?"

Looking at the black app on his phone's home screen, John, who had been overly excited about getting an excellent Starter Pokémon, finally remembered that he had a golden finger.

"Well, after all that, I forgot the most important thing." John scoffed at himself, finally remembering why he had been in such a hurry to get his Starter Pokémon.

Just as he was about to activate his golden finger, John's hand suddenly froze.

"No, I was too focused on being happy." As if finally realizing something, John suddenly slapped his thigh.

"Now that I have a Starter Pokémon, does that mean the Pokémon will enter the game?" John, finally noticing the problem, looked at the golden finger on his phone and couldn't help but wonder.

However, the golden finger didn't seem to have any intention of answering John's question, remaining quietly on his phone.

"No choice, I'll open it first and see. If it requires entering the game, I'll wait. I'll go to the wild and catch a low-level Pokémon to try again after a while."

With a plan in mind, John cautiously opened the golden finger. In the game, Professor Birch was still being chased in circles by Zigzagoon.

Looking at the game character by the backpack, John hesitated for a long time, finally deciding to press the A button.

"Detecting Pokémon... Confirming Pokémon status..."

Pokémon: Shinx ♦

Type: Electric

Level: 4

Ability: Intimidate (When it enters battle, all opposing Pokémon's Attack is lowered by 1 stage)

Nature: Naughty (+Physical Attack -Special Defense)

"Pokémon level meets requirements, game will now begin. During the game, the Pokémon will be in a state of deep sleep. Please place your Pokémon in a Poké Ball or a suitable location. Press 'Start' to begin the game."

Seeing the text displayed in the dialogue box, John let out a long sigh of relief.

"Okay, in that case, it seems there shouldn't be any problems."

After letting go of the burden in his heart, John immediately felt much lighter.

"Shinx, close your eyes first. Later, I'll take you to a fun place, okay?"

"Meow (σ≧▽≦)σ"

Hearing about going to a fun place, Shinx, who was lying in John's arms, nodded eagerly in agreement and quickly closed its eyes.

After seeing Shinx close its eyes, John pressed "Start" on the screen. After pressing it, another dialogue box appeared on the screen.

"Your Pokémon has multiple moves detected. Please select 4 moves before entering the game."

Ignoring the newly appeared dialogue box, John quickly looked at Shinx, who was beside him, eyes closed and seemingly already asleep.

He gently shook Shinx's body, no reaction; "Shinx, Shinx." He called its name a few more times, still no reaction.

However, seeing the slight rise and fall of Shinx's chest and the faint snoring, John temporarily confirmed that Shinx should be fine, then continued the game... Accompanied by a burst of music, Shinx's cartoon image appeared on the game screen. A dialogue box next to it displayed the moves Shinx currently possessed.

Tackle, Quick Attack, Yawn, Thunder Fang, Fire Fang, Ice Fang, Electric Terrain

"Why is there Electric Terrain? This game shouldn't have Gen VI moves, right? Also, I remember Shinx's report didn't seem to have this move."

Looking at the extra Electric Terrain move on Shinx's move list, John was filled with confusion.

"Perhaps this move is hidden deeper, and the equipment at the base didn't detect it."

When Pokémon are young, due to their relatively weaker internal energy, there is a chance that some moves cannot be detected. And even if moves are detected, they are mostly unusable due to their young age, only able to use basic moves like Tackle or Growl.

However, John didn't pay too much attention to this matter. After selecting Thunder Fang, Fire Fang, Ice Fang, and Electric Terrain for Shinx, John officially started the game... The game began.

As music played, the game screen started to move again.

"A wild Zigzagoon appeared."

"I choose you, Shinx."

In the game, a Level 2 Zigzagoon appeared in the upper right corner, and then the game character in the lower left corner threw a Poké Ball, releasing a Level 4 Shinx, and the battle began.

Looking at the familiar battle scene, John controlled Shinx to directly use a Thunder Fang on Zigzagoon.

"Shinx used Thunder Fang"

"Critical hit"

"The wild Zigzagoon fainted"

"Shinx gained 17 experience points"

The battle was over. Just as John was about to exit the game, he saw the screen flash, and Professor Birch slowly walked towards the game character.

"I almost forgot there was a cutscene."

Unable to exit, John could only finish the game's storyline first.

The protagonist received Professor Birch's thanks and was then invited to visit the professor's lab.

At the lab, after the professor finished talking to the protagonist about his father and praising him, the game's progression changed.

Here, the professor was supposed to give the protagonist the Starter Pokémon he initially chose. But since the protagonist's Pokémon was self-obtained, Professor Birch gave him something else instead.

"Ah, that's right. To thank you for saving me, I'll give you this."

"John obtained Magnet."

"John put the Magnet into the item pocket."

"Your Starter Pokémon is Shinx, right? This is a Magnet, which can enhance the power of your Shinx's Electric-type moves. It's yours now."

Then it returned to the normal plot dialogue.

"I think if you can grow together with your Pokémon, you will become an excellent Trainer."

"My child, May, also researches Pokémon herself while helping me."

"John, go see how May is doing."

After selecting "Yes," the dialogue continued.

"Great, May will be very happy too."

"Let May tell you what it means to be a Trainer."

The plot temporarily ended. John quickly opened the menu bar and pressed the exit button, leaving the game. Because he was worried about Shinx's condition, John didn't notice a faint blue energy being transmitted from his phone to Shinx.

After exiting the game, John shook Shinx, who was sleeping soundly in his arms.

"Meow~ (つω`)~"

Shinx slowly woke up from its sleep.

Looking at the Trainer in front of him, as if remembering something, Shinx suddenly jumped to the ground.

"Meow (▼dish▼#)"

Its expression was fierce, and electric flashes passed through its mouth, forming the shape of sharp teeth.

Seeing Shinx's appearance, John quickly spoke to comfort it: "It's okay, the game is over. Put your move away quickly."

After hearing John's words, and carefully observing the surroundings to find that they were still in the lounge, Shinx finally lowered its guard and canceled the move. Then it jumped into John's arms.

Gently stroking the Shinx in his arms, John's mind was on the Thunder Fang Shinx had just used.

"Logically speaking, at Shinx's current level, it should only be able to use moves like Tackle, and shouldn't be able to use a move like Thunder Fang. But what happened just now... Does this game allow Pokémon to quickly master moves?" Thinking of this, John couldn't help but get excited.

At the beginning, there will be more plot descriptions in the game, which will decrease later.

Trust me, I'm definitely not just padding the word count (serious face.jpg)
