Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Reality is Not a Game

After John's explanation, Zach finally understood what had just happened.

"It's alright. This Shinx is, after all, the offspring of a Champion-level Pokémon. The energy within it far exceeds that of a normal young Pokémon, so it's normal for it to have some trouble controlling it. It's still young now; it will be fine once it grows up. Just be a little careful when you two are together these next few days."

"Okay, Brother Zach, I understand."

"That's good. Putting that aside, here are Shinx's physical examination certificate and ability test report."

After handing the report to John, Zach, thinking of Shinx's astonishing talent mentioned in the report, couldn't help but add a few more words.

"As expected of the offspring of a Champion-level Pokémon, this aptitude is truly enviable. It's only because our teacher is a Senior Breeder, coupled with Director Zhou's strong support, otherwise, such a good Pokémon would never have been given to you, a Rookie Trainer."

Under normal circumstances, Pokémon available to Rookie Trainers mostly possess traits such as being docile, friendly, obedient, and agile. However, as a trade-off, the talents of these Pokémon might be slightly weaker.

After all, it's impossible to accurately test whether a Rookie Trainer has breeding talent. Giving them Pokémon with too much talent, if not raised well, would be a considerable loss. Although it's cruel, for the development of the Alliance, this is a necessary measure.

Offspring of Champion-level Pokémon like this should ideally be given to promising newcomers or established Superior Trainers. This way, the potential of these Pokémon can be maximized, allowing them to become a cornerstone of the Alliance.

However, considering that John's parents are an Advanced Trainer and a Senior Breeder who have served the Alliance for many years, and there's another Senior Breeder providing a guarantee, the Alliance agreed to the ownership of this Shinx...

Receiving the report, despite Zach's repeated reminders, John was already mentally prepared, but seeing Shinx's impressive move list on the report still gave him a significant shock:

Pokémon: Shinx ♦

Type: Electric

Level: 4

Ability: Intimidate (When it enters battle, the Attack of all opposing Pokémon is lowered by one stage.)

Moves: Tackle, Quick Attack, Yawn, Thunder Fang, Fire Fang, Ice Fang.

Overall Evaluation: Excellent

It just goes to show that the genes of Champion-level Pokémon are indeed powerful. If it were an ordinary young Pokémon, it would probably only have one or two moves, and most likely basic moves like Tackle, Glare, Growl, or Tail Whip.

Just as people have different social statuses, heights, weights, and intelligence, Pokémon are the same.

Normally, depending on the training focus of each Pokémon and their subsequent efforts, they can achieve relatively high results. However, some things are predetermined by birth and are largely unchangeable through later efforts.

Things like the limits of physical growth, height and weight, intelligence, the amount of elemental energy contained within the body, the speed of move comprehension, and battle talent—these are all aspects where, under equal conditions, innate abilities surpass acquired ones.

"Whose father is this Shinx? It inherited so many moves." Looking at the "Three Elemental Fangs" on the report, John asked Zach in a surprised tone.

"Its father is that Elite-level Luxray, didn't you know that?"

Although he didn't understand why John suddenly asked this, Zach still answered the question.

"Luxray? Then its mother is?"

"Its mother is a Houndoom."

"That's not right. If the mother is a Houndoom, the offspring should be a Houndour, right? Also, if the father is a Luxray, how could Shinx possibly inherit the 'Three Elemental Fangs'!?"

Upon hearing Zach's answer, as if he had heard something incredible, John's voice suddenly rose.

"Why are you shouting?" Zach, startled, slapped John on the head. After seeing the latter cover his head in pain and quiet down, he continued, saying,

"What 'Three Elemental Fangs'? Where did you learn such a messy term? Also, how did you learn about Pokémon breeding and move inheritance? Were you dreaming when the teacher taught you? How can you not understand such basic knowledge? Are you doing justice to the teacher like this?"

Zach seemed to be provoked by John's "lack of academic effort" and scolded him fiercely.

"Who said that, I..." Just as John was about to retort, another memory surfaced in his mind, causing his tone to soften instantly, and the words on the tip of his tongue changed to: "I, I just didn't remember it for a moment, Brother Zach, I'm sorry, I was wrong, please forgive me. I promise I will never make such a basic mistake again."

Seeing John, who had now realized his mistake, Zach's tone also softened, and he couldn't bear to continue scolding him.

"Forget it, don't let it happen again." Zach glanced at his watch. "It's almost ten. You can play with Shinx here for a while. When I get off work, I'll drive you home."

"Thank you, Brother Zach."

"Alright, I'll be going then." With that, Zach turned and left the lounge.

"Meow~"

Shinx, who had been cutely staying by the side the whole time, didn't know what to do after seeing John get scolded. It just ran to John's side and gently rubbed against his pant leg, trying to comfort its Trainer.

Feeling the friction at his feet, John picked up Shinx and held it in his arms, gently stroking it.

"I'm fine, thank you, Shinx."

"Meow~ ^ω^"

Sitting on the sofa with Shinx in his arms, John began to sort through the memories that had just appeared in his mind:

In this world, Pokémon breeding and inherited moves are not fixed like in the games of his previous life. Simply put, unless the parents are of the same species, the offspring Pokémon's species is random. And any moves the parents possess, as long as they are suitable, the offspring Pokémon can potentially inherit them.

Of course, the more proficient and mastered the moves are by the parents, the more likely they are to be passed down. So, in this world, Pokémon can truly master their moves so well that they are etched into their DNA.

Therefore, for Shinx to inherit the "Three Elemental Fangs," its father and mother combined just need to have proficiently mastered these three moves.

Furthermore, for Pokémon in this world, they can also learn many moves that couldn't be used in the games of his previous life. Of course, the more suitable they are, the higher the probability of learning them.

Take Luxray, for example. Electric-type moves like Thunder Shock and Zap Cannon, which it couldn't learn in the games, can likely be learned as long as someone teaches them.

For moves like Ice Fang, which could only be inherited, as long as Luxray has a good set of teeth, the difficulty of learning it is not very high for it.

Even Fighting-type Pokémon like Hitmonchan, due to their high talent for punching techniques, can learn Shadow Punch if they put in the effort.

It's just that unless necessary, Hitmonchan generally wouldn't deliberately learn Shadow Punch, as with that much effort, it would be better to learn more moves with higher compatibility.

These are considered basic knowledge for Breeders. John's mother had originally intended to train John to be a Breeder, so she had taught him some. However, John felt that being a Breeder was too difficult and only wanted to be a simple Trainer.

John's mother, who doted on her son, didn't force him too much when she saw his unwillingness, only requesting that he learn a little, as Trainers also need to learn some breeding knowledge.

"Alright, I'm a complete idiot for applying game rules to reality."

After organizing his memories and fully understanding the situation, John annoyedly slapped his forehead.
