Chapter 2 - Chapter One - Rebirth

Xie Sen ate fruits and vegetables all day and hadn't had meat in a long time.

This wouldn't do! Xie Sen finished a baked potato, then, with a pale face, crouched against the door panel, peering out through the crack. It was eerily quiet

outside, the only sound he could hear was his own breathing. He lay there from dawn to dusk, the silence giving him a sense of security. The next morning, he mentally prepared himself, opened the door, and ran as fast as

he could to the pond two hundred meters away. He had spent nine years and two tigers trying to catch a fish. As he was walking back with the fish, a pale, bloodless humanoid zombie and a giant zombie dog suddenly emerged from the woods to the right. Terrified, he clutched the fish tightly.

Then, he began to flee frantically, attacking with the plants in his system as he ran. However, he hadn't encountered a living human in a long time, and with low energy, the system quickly shut down.

The stench of fishy air washed over him. He stared at the zombie dog's bloody maw, unable to suppress a cry.

"Ah..."

"Beep, beep..."

A shrill scream woke the silent alarm in the room. Xie Sen's head spun, his own voice shaking him. He sat up like a spring in his bed.

A strong sense of dizziness washed over him. Xie Sen clutched his head, his brows knitted into a frown. His gaze swept across the ward, and his body froze.

Where was this? Hadn't he been eaten by zombie dogs? The dream and reality were identical.

He removed his hand from his head and examined it. It was white, slender, and beautiful, but where had the wound he'd incurred while farming two days ago gone?

"Hey, you're awake! How are you feeling? What's wrong?" The door to his left opened, and a man in white entered, silencing the incessant bedside alarm.

By the man's attire and the room's decor, Xie Sen knew for sure that this was a ward.

When the sound of the machine stopped, he felt a lot more comfortable. He smiled at the doctor and asked the doubts in his heart: "Is this a newly built base? The situation was so dangerous at that time, I thought I was going to die. Who saved me? I must thank him very much."

He could not hide the surprise in his eyes. You know, the living environment of human beings after the apocalypse is extremely harsh. This ward is even larger than the ward before the apocalypse, and the equipment looks very advanced. From this, you can imagine how powerful this base is.

The doctor handed Xie Sen a headset-style measuring device. Hearing his words, he exclaimed in surprise, "You didn't commit suicide on purpose?"

Xie Sen: "Nonsense, I just wanted to eat fish."

The doctor looked at him with a complicated expression, shook his head, and there was pity in his eyes: "You're such a good boy! Judging by your appearance, you've never lied, have you?"

Xie Sen: "...I'm telling the truth."

The doctor looked at him with amusement: "No one will believe that excuse."

Seeing that Xie Sen didn't take the measuring device, the doctor simply reached out and put it on him. Xie Sen subconsciously dodged: "What is this?"

"You fell from a height. Although landing in the water is not life-threatening, you suffered a severe brain concussion. This is a brain measuring device." The doctor said, putting the device on him with a slightly forceful force and turning it on.

Xie Sen frowned: "Are you mistaken? I didn't fall from a height. I was..."

"Impossible," the doctor interrupted him firmly. "Student, Xingcheng First Hospital would never make such a mistake. They would never mistake the cause of any patient's illness."

Xingcheng First Hospital? Xie Sen searched his mind quickly, but couldn't recall a single instance. He hadn't even heard of Xingcheng.

The doctor removed the measuring device, glanced at the results, and smiled. "You're recovering well. You'll feel a little dizzy for the next two days. Just avoid strenuous exercise."

Xie Sen breathed a sigh of relief. He was about to ask for more information when his left wrist suddenly vibrated, accompanied by a chirping bird.

He looked at his wrist. A light blue band glowed, revealing a text message icon.

He'd thought it was a patient band, but it turned out to be a mobile phone band. He'd never bought one before, and he'd never seen this model advertised.

Seeing him stunned, the doctor smiled. "You've been in a coma for two days. Your friends and family must be worried about you."

Xie Sen's lips curled down, his expression a little stiff. After the apocalypse, his friends and family were long gone.

He tapped the message icon, and a blue light erupted from the band. A virtual screen the size of an A4 sheet of paper appeared above his wrist, with a line of white text on it.

"This is a mass message. The Botany Department graduation exam is on March 28th. Students, please prepare in advance. Click the attachment for exam room arrangements."

Xie Sen had been stunned since he saw the virtual screen. When he came to his senses and read the text message, his heartbeat was uncontrollably accelerating.

Something was wrong!

He looked at the doctor with a serious expression: "Where exactly is this?"

"Xingcheng First Hospital."

"Which province is Xingcheng in?"

The doctor paused, then asked anxiously: "Could it be that you've not only suffered a concussion but also amnesia? Do you remember your name?"

"Xie Sen,"

the doctor breathed a sigh of relief. "As long as you remember your information, it's good. Xingcheng is the most powerful of the three main cities on Beast Star. If you forget, you can access the optical network to look up information."

He paused. "You're not in a good condition enough to be hospitalized. Go home and rest for two days." He patted Xie Sen's shoulder. "You're still young. Don't let your thoughts get somber."

Xie Sen's mouth twitched, his mind turning to the right path. "I really haven't thought about suicide."

"Yes, you haven't," the doctor said with a chuckle.

Could the excuse be any more obvious?

"By the way," the doctor reminded him, "your medical and hospitalization expenses have been calculated. Please check the bill before you leave and make sure it's correct before paying. If you have any questions, please contact us."

He opened his personal wristband, checked Xie Sen's bill details, and after confirming everything, sent it to Xie Sen. "The extra hundred is for nutritional supplements. Your health is so poor, so for safety reasons, we've given you injections. Remember to use at least one per week." Xie Sen

imitated the doctor's movements, opened the wristband, and clicked on the bill. He had stayed for two days, and the total cost was twenty-eight thousand eight hundred.

Wasn't that too expensive? He pressed the payment button, followed the prompts on the payment screen, and successfully paid with his fingerprint. Then, a text message arrived.

He clicked it: the balance was five hundred and sixty Samsung coins.

"Your fees have been paid, and you can be discharged at any time. If you have any after-effects, please come for a checkup as soon as possible," the doctor said.

Xie Sen nodded and, with the doctor's help, completed the discharge procedures. Twenty minutes later, he stood on the broad street, a bewildered look on his face.

The streets before him were wider than any city he'd ever been to, and the cars on them were of all kinds, almost all models he had never seen before.

Various flying vehicles flew in the air, interspersed with birds. These birds were enormous, and as they passed by, Xie Sen could see people sitting on their backs.

He pinched the back of his hand, feeling the pain. He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself, but couldn't help but blurt out, "Holy shit!"

He'd had a vague suspicion in the hospital room, but he'd thought it too implausible to pursue further. However, the reality of the situation forced him to admit that he might have been reborn in another world.

He opened his bracelet and looked at the profile. The name and photo were identical, but the rest was different.

Xie Sen, a third-year student in the Botany Department at Star City University, was eighteen years old, 1.83 meters tall. His adoptive parents were plant researchers who had perished during an interstellar expedition three years earlier.

After reading through the profile, Xie Sen's eyes fell on the single blank field after his name. Contracted beast?

What was going on here? There was no gender field, but there was one for a contracted beast. What did a contracted beast even mean?

He was bewildered. His stomach was complaining. After two days in a coma, he was starving. He decided to eat first before checking his profile.

Thinking of the balance text message he'd received earlier, he felt unsure. He wandered down the street for a while, found the cheapest fast food restaurant, and bought a lunch box for ten Star Coins.

The tall, sturdy owner enthusiastically handed him a boxed lunch. "My food is delicious, remember to come often."

Xie Sen reached out to take it. The owner stared at his wrist with amusement. Xie Sen hesitated for a second, then held the box in one hand and extended his left wrist.

The owner quickly swiped his wrist with the payment machine. A message came through. Xie Sen glanced and saw that his balance had been reduced by ten star coins.

There were quite a few people eating there at the moment. The small restaurant was almost full. Seeing someone finish their meal and get up, Xie Sen quickly walked over and sat down. The waiter quickly cleared the table. Xie Sen was extremely satisfied.

Opening the box, Xie Sen was stunned. This restaurant was so honest. They were all meat. He had carefully observed the prices here along the way. They were similar to modern prices, one star coin equal to one yuan.

He picked up his chopsticks and sighed to himself. Ten star coins really didn't buy you any loss, but they also didn't buy you any rip-off!

He hadn't eaten meat in a long time. The aroma of meat filled the air. He picked up a piece and took a big bite. Then he couldn't help but frown.

It was quite fragrant, but a bit fishy. He had a strong taste for spicy food, having eaten spicy food almost every day since the apocalypse. Now, the meat had no spice at all, which was a bit unusual.

Having experienced the apocalypse, he wasn't a picky eater. After a brief frown, his brows quickly relaxed, and

he happily ate the meat. However, as he ate, he couldn't help but use his chopsticks to scrape away the remaining meat. Looking at the empty bottom of the lunch box, and seeing that the diners around him only had one, he turned his head and shouted to the owner, "Boss, you forgot to add rice to my portion!"

Although he hadn't eaten meat in a long time, who could bear to eat an entire meal of meat?

After he finished speaking, the bustling little shop fell silent. Xie Sen felt the gazes from all around him. Seeing the tall and strong owner walking towards him with a displeased look on his face, he felt a chill in his heart.

He immediately put on a bright smile, his whole face was filled with friendliness: "It's okay, it's okay, I'm sorry, I was a little loud just now, I didn't mean to cause trouble, just add a bowl of rice, it's a small matter!"

"Hahaha..."

The laughter suddenly exploded in the store. Xie Sen's face was a little red, and he quickly straightened his back. You can't blame him for being timid. The boss was more than two meters tall. If there was a conflict, how could he withstand it!

"Dream on! Ten star coins and you still want to eat rice!"

"Boy, are you making fun of my store?" The boss walked to Xie Sen's table and looked down at him.
