"Do you believe there are ghosts in this world?" Alex Carter asked, studying the girl in front of him.
Ghosts? Seriously?
The girl was momentarily speechless, but seeing Alex's earnest expression, she fell silent. After a pause, she nodded slightly. "I believe it."
Let's see what kind of trick he pulls next.
"Are you brave?" Alex continued.
"Of course," she replied confidently. "For example, my friends are terrified of caterpillars, but I can catch them barehanded."
Unexpectedly, Alex looked at her with slight disgust. "You're playing really disgusting."
"You..." Her eyes widened, speechless with indignation.
"That's barely a pass for you," Alex waved dismissively. "How are your photography skills?"
"I won first prize in high school," she said, nodding slightly.
"Are you a student?"
"Yes, it's summer break now. I'll be a freshman soon."
"Would you be willing to work at night?"
"I'm okay with that."
Alex smiled. "Great, you passed the interview."
"Just like that?" The girl was stunned, hardly believing it.
She wondered if Alex might be a scammer. But considering he had an office in this pricey urban area, she dismissed the thought.
---
"Let me introduce myself. I'm Alex Carter, the owner of this agency. We handle supernatural events," he explained with a smile. "Of course, if the price is right, we can handle other matters too."
"Supernatural events? Is there really business in such a field?" she mused, then introduced herself. "I'm Lily Young, eighteen. When can I start?"
"You can start now. Did you bring your equipment?"
"Yes, I did," she said, patting her white backpack.
Alex nodded, satisfied. "I usually wake up around four or five in the afternoon. You can come in around then. The base salary is set at $3,000, with bonuses for any business we get."
He moved to the computer and sat down. "Feel free to do whatever you like. If you haven't eaten, I can order takeout."
"I've eaten, so no need," Lily quickly replied, watching Alex curiously.
Though dealing with supernatural events seemed unreliable, it appeared Alex was about to start working, right?
Despite her skepticism, she couldn't deny he looked quite handsome while serious.
Feeling she should do something, Lily got up to pour a glass of water for Alex.
But as she approached him, she was taken aback.
"Jingchen, I love you!"
"No, I actually love Xiaohai!"
"Jingchen!"
"Little sea!"
"Morning morning!"
"Haihai!"
...
Lily blushed, realizing Alex was watching a melodramatic TV show on his computer.
"You… do you just watch these all day?" she finally asked.
"No business, so what else is there to do?" Alex rolled his eyes. "Besides, aren't these shows interesting?"
You insist on having a supernatural agency; of course, you have no business! Lily thought, glancing at the screen in disgust. "I wouldn't watch these trashy shows if my life depended on it."
"To each their own," Alex replied, engrossed.
Two hours later...
"They got together? The male lead and the second male? What kind of plot twist is this?" Lily exclaimed, having pulled up a chair behind Alex.
Pointing at the screen, she marveled, "Is this screenwriter a genius?"
"Ugh!" Alex sighed. "Every time I see the scene where the heroine is left alone, crying and making a fuss, I just..."
"Feel sad?" Lily suggested. "No wonder, the heroine is quite pretty."
"No, you misunderstood," Alex corrected. "Every time I see that scene, I want to laugh."
Lily: "..."
"By the way," Alex remembered, "didn't you say you wouldn't watch these trashy shows even under threat?"
"I…" Lily blushed, quickly explaining, "I was just afraid you'd be bored watching alone..."
"Don't worry, I'm never bored."
As they chatted, the door opened, and a figure entered.
Alex's eyes lit up.
Business had arrived!
