"OK, OK! Examinee #7111, that's a great question, thank you!" Present Mic immediately explained: "The fourth type of villain is worth zero points. In other words, it's an obstacle. There's one of these 'gimmicks' running around in each venue. While it's not impossible to defeat, there's no point even if you do. I recommend you listeners cleverly avoid it!"
"Thank you for the explanation! My apologies for the interruption!" Tenya Iida, having received his answer, sat down immediately. After sitting, he looked at Yang Xiao and asked, "Why are you looking at me?"
Yang Xiao had indeed been looking at Iida, but this guy actually called him out directly?
"It's nothing. Isn't everyone looking at you?" Yang Xiao smiled and turned his head away. Iida Tenya seemed a bit sensitive.
Iida looked around; indeed, some people were still looking at him, and others were discussing the issue. Clearly, the question he raised was on many people's minds.
Present Mic said a lot more towards the end. What impressed Yang Xiao the most was the U.A. High School motto, attributed to the great hero Napoleon Bonaparte.
The name Napoleon Bonaparte was interesting. Yang Xiao figured he must be a foreign hero.
["A true hero is one who can overcome life's misfortunes and charge forward to a brighter future!"]
This line could be considered a classic and had a significant influence on Izuku Midoriya.
The orientation session ended there, and all students proceeded to their respective exam venues. Yang Xiao's testing ground wasn't the same as Midoriya's, but he was with Katsuki Bakugo.
Testing Site: Battle Center A
There were quite a few examinees in this venue. Besides Katsuki Bakugo, there were several other future classmates here, like Toru Hagakure. She didn't need specific introduction; it was obviously her. Besides Hagakure, U.A. had another student with a nearly invisible Quirk, but Yang Xiao didn't recall the name. Still, the two were easy to tell apart.
Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu and Ibara Shiozaki were also in Battle Center A. These two would be future students of Class 1-B.
Yang Xiao stood in the crowd, not very conspicuous. No one paid him much attention. Most people were busy observing their competitors' appearances to gauge their approximate strength.
There was nothing particularly outstanding about Yang Xiao's looks. He was decent-looking, but that was useless here, so everyone assumed Yang Xiao wasn't a major competitor.
Yang Xiao kept a low profile, but some were exceptionally flashy. Yang Xiao didn't recognize any of these show-offs; they were clearly minor characters.
"THE GAME'S START!"
A broadcast sounded, the massive gate in front of everyone suddenly swung open, and the crowd surged inside.
Yang Xiao was no exception, but Katsuki Bakugo was the fastest, blasting straight to the front and charging deep into the arena.
Once inside, Yang Xiao veered off to one side. Clearly, faux villains would be everywhere in the venue, so fewer people around meant he could act more freely.
"Found one already?" Yang Xiao felt a thrill of excitement. A robot faux villain appeared ahead, blocking his path. Honestly, he'd only used his Holy Light Quirk on the dog dealer before, and that was just a small test. This time was different; the faux villains were more resilient than humans.
"Come on, catch me if you can," Yang Xiao grinned, dashing directly into a derelict building. The faux villain, without hesitation, chased after him into the building.
The venue was under surveillance everywhere. While there were cameras inside the abandoned building too, there were far fewer than outside. Yang Xiao chose to fight indoors to avoid drawing too much attention.
As soon as the faux villain rushed into the building, Yang Xiao spun around and charged towards it. A layer of golden light emanated from his right hand, covering his elbow—the coverage area was significantly larger than it had been months ago.
BAM!
With a loud crash, Yang Xiao smashed the faux villain's head with a single punch. Black smoke poured out, signaling his successful score.
However, Yang Xiao hadn't exerted much effort, using only about a third of his strength. He felt facing this level of exam was no problem at all.
It wasn't that his Quirk was overwhelmingly powerful, but rather that his strong Quirk, combined with his hard work, yielded these results. Otherwise, even with the world's strongest Quirk, without training and effort, one would remain a loser, easily surpassed by those with weaker Quirks but greater diligence.
Though that possibility was slim. He didn't know what the strongest Quirk was and didn't consider his own the strongest. It was just relatively powerful, still requiring his own development and hard work.
"Heh~" Another faux villain appeared, charging into the building towards Yang Xiao. This villain was aggressive, but its offensive capability wasn't extremely high. After all, the school wouldn't joke with students' lives.
But one thing was clear: if you couldn't even defeat this level of faux villain, you weren't qualified to enter U.A. High School.
"Let's try my legs this time!" Yang Xiao's eyes held determination. As he raised his right leg, golden light enveloped his calf. A sweeping kick later, he had cleaved the second faux villain in two.
Effective!
From then on, Yang Xiao kept luring faux villains into the building and smashing them one by one. However, he wasn't foolish enough to hog all the points. He only targeted a few nearby villains.
First, it was enough to ensure his entry into the Hero Course. Second, it helped him avoid attracting unwanted attention.
In Battle Center A, with a guy like Katsuki Bakugo stealing the spotlight, Yang Xiao felt no pressure hiding in a building to take down a few villains. It was perfect having someone draw attention away from him.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! Katsuki Bakugo attacked the faux villains with his explosive Quirk. He only had eyes for points. The more villains he crushed, the higher his score. He had to surpass Izuku Midoriya by a wide margin.
The other examinees also fought hard, but some couldn't even handle one faux villain and could only flee.
Indeed, how many people of that age could face such a scene? Without great perseverance and resolve, most could only run when confronted with villains much larger than themselves.
The world was sometimes unfair, but also fair. Everyone's efforts would be rewarded; sweat never went to waste.
Conversely, those who hadn't done their homework and never worked hard could only be eliminated in such a scenario.
As faux villains were defeated one by one, people fled in panic, and Bakugo advanced courageously, the test neared its end.
"WHO'S NEXT?!" Bakugo Katsuki, drenched in sweat, stood amidst four or five destroyed faux villains, roaring madly.
The examinees around him looked at him like he was a monster. This guy was too abnormal, having taken down so many villains single-handedly.
There was no doubt this guy would definitely get into U.A. High School.
ROAR!!!
Just as Bakugo was roaring and ready to continue fighting, a tremendous noise erupted. A giant faux villain appeared not far from the crowd!
This giant was the so-called stage gimmick. Facing it, Present Mic's advice was to run.
"Let's get out of here...!" Bakugo Katsuki's heart sank upon seeing the giant villain. This thing was huge, as tall as a building. There was no need to fight it.
Thinking this, he turned and left. He had already earned enough points. He wasn't a fool; getting injured facing this behemoth wasn't a wise choice.
