Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Fighter exam

Until June 1st, Yun Ye went to school, trained at home, and time passed.

On the morning of June 1st, he woke up at 6 a.m., had his breakfast, got dressed, and went out. A little after 8 a.m., he stood in front of the 'Ming-yue Sector'.

"This is the Ming-yue Sector, don't approach!"

At the entrance of the small sector, six uniformed soldiers stood guard. One of the soldiers shouted: "Sir, please step back. Once you enter the yellow-lined area, we have the right to shoot you on sight!"

Yun Ye spoke in a calm voice, "I am Yun Ye, an elite member of the Limits Hall. I have come here today to take the Potential Fighter assessment." The Limits Hall held the Potential Fighter assessment on the first day of every month.

"Huh?"

An old, bearded man came out of the guard booth with a computer in his hand. "Young man, you've come quite early. To have the courage to take the Potential Fighter assessment at such a young age... your future is limitless. Alright, let me check your ID and elite member ID."

Yun Ye handed the documents to the old man.

After the IDs were scanned, information appeared on the computer screen.

"16 years old?" The bearded old man looked at Yun Ye in shock, then laughed, "Talented enough to take the Potential Fighter assessment at 16. Not bad, I hope you pass today."

"Thank you," Yun Ye replied in a flat voice.

"Let him in," the old man said, waving his hand.

Inside the hall, an elegant young woman greeted him with a smile, "Sir, I believe you are here to take the Potential Fighter assessment? Please have a seat over there. At 10:00 a.m., you will be assessed along with the other candidates."

Yun Ye nodded and walked towards the small waiting area next to the lobby. There were a few sofas there.

"Hmm?" Yun Ye looked around and saw only one person sitting on a sofa.

The person was sitting quietly. Yun Ye went to an empty sofa on the side. Soon, four more people arrived, settled in the remaining seats, and started talking among themselves.

"Ha, Yun Ye!" a familiar voice called out.

Yun Ye turned his head and saw Yang Wu approaching him. Yang Wu asked, "Are you here for the Potential Fighter assessment too?"

"Yang Wu?" Yun Ye greeted him with a nod.

"It's a bit embarrassing," Yang Wu said helplessly. "I tried last month, but unfortunately, my speed was only 24.9 m/s. I missed it by just that small difference!"

Yun Ye, Luo Feng, and Yang Wu went to the same dojo. Although they weren't close friends, they were familiar with each other.

"Silence!" A sharp command came from the middle of the lobby.

The six people there all turned their heads at once. A middle-aged man in a dojo uniform was standing there: "Come on, everyone follow me. We're going to the training area, the assessment is starting."

When they arrived at the training area, Yun Ye saw that Instructor Jiang Nian was also there.

"Get ready for the assessment," commanded the tall, disheveled-haired middle-aged man.

Yun Ye knew this man was the master of the Limits Hall, the chief instructor of Yang Zhou city, 'Wu Tong'.

"Come one by one, and give me your IDs," said the fighter who had brought Yun Ye's group. He collected the IDs.

Wu Tong randomly selected an ID and scanned it with the machine next to him.

A nearly transparent, crystal-like screen popped out of the machine, and personal information appeared on it.

"Test your fist strength," the Chief Instructor commanded.

"Yes!"

The bearded candidate immediately stepped forward and threw a powerful punch at the machine. The screen instantly showed the number: '906kg'.

"Passed. Next, Yun Ye!" Chief Instructor Wu Tong randomly chose and scanned the second ID. As soon as he read the personal information displayed, he was startled in surprise. "Huh? 16 years old? Old Jiang, is this from your Zhi-An branch? Since when did a gem like this appear there?"

"Haha!" Instructor Jiang Nian, who was standing next to him, couldn't help but laugh. In fact, he was also surprised when he saw Yun Ye, but he didn't show it in front of the other instructors.

The other instructors were also in shock and disbelief. Someone who entered the Fighter assessment at 16 was definitely a genius.

Instructor Jiang Nian looked at Yun Ye and thought to himself: "I wouldn't have believed that Yun Ye would reach the fighter level in such a short time either, but I have no choice but to support him in front of the other instructors. Come on, Yun Ye, show them the strength of our Zhi-An branch!"

"Yes!" Yun Ye stood up and walked towards the fist-strength testing machine.

Everyone on the scene had their eyes on Yun Ye, waiting for the test result.

Yun Ye took a deep breath, putting his body in the perfect position. "BANG!" His right fist hit the target, and the device shook violently. A series of numbers appeared on the machine's screen: "953 kg!"

"Excellent!"

Chief Instructor Wu Tong was astounded: "Unbelievable, young man! To have such strength at 16... you might reach the level of a God of War in the future! Very good. Very good!"

Yun Ye heard the praises from the instructors and the chief instructor, but his expression didn't show the slightest change.

"A true genius. Yes, passed!" Chief Instructor Wu Tong scanned the next ID. "Next, Yang Wu."

Yun Ye returned to the side of the other candidates.

"You're amazing, Yun Ye! To have such strength at this age," Yang Wu said sincerely.

Yun Ye simply gave a slight nod.

...

The other five people also quickly completed the 'Strength Test'. Two of them failed.

Chief Instructor Wu Tong walked to the 'Speed Testing Machine' and started the device.

"You'll come one by one. Yang Wu is first!" Wu Tong commanded.

Yang Wu adjusted his breath and started running on the track. When the test was over, he looked at the screen: '24.9 m/s'.

"So close," Yang Wu muttered in disappointment. If his physical condition had been slightly better, he could have broken the 25 m/s barrier.

"Failed, you're eliminated!" Chief Instructor Wu Tong announced expressionlessly. "Next!"

After Yang Wu left, only three people remained. It was Yun Ye's turn.

Yun Ye adjusted his breath and started running on the track like a storm. At the end of the test, he looked at the display: '26.3 m/s'.

"Good speed! Above the passing limit," Chief Instructor Wu Tong said, nodding with satisfaction. "Next."

...

Two people were eliminated in the 'Strength Test', and two more in the 'Speed Test'. Now, only two people remained. It was time for the third and final test: the 'Reaction Speed Assessment'.

"Follow me," Chief Instructor Wu Tong commanded, taking the instructors and the two remaining candidates to the 'Reaction Speed Test Room' connected to the training hall.

"Yun Ye first," said Wu Tong.

Yun Ye walked into the circle. He was surrounded by a red laser ring.

"Remember, no matter what, do not step out of the circle. If you do, you will instantly fail. If you touch the red light, you will lose points," Chief Instructor Wu Tong warned, and he pressed the red button.

The barrels of the Reaction Speed Testing Device began to spin rapidly. Dozens of barrels all shone with red light, continuously firing plastic bullets at Yun Ye.

Yun Ye looked ahead carefully. Thanks to his micro-level body movements, he could sense the direction the bullets would come from beforehand, and his body evaded them with the smallest and most efficient movements necessary. It was as if he were performing a fluid dance, swaying, bending, and carving curves. The bullets grazed his clothes but didn't make contact by even a centimeter. His movements were extremely economical and elegant, showcasing a micro-level body mastery.

As Yun Ye continued the test, the surrounding instructors began to whisper in astonishment:

"This kid is incredible! His reaction time is perfect."

"Really... Is it just me, or do his movements resemble Micro-Level Body Mastery?"

At these words, all the fighters in the room were startled in shock.

A fighter's body condition could be improved through training. However, reaching Micro-Level Body Mastery was extremely difficult, and for someone who was only 16 years old, it was an almost unbelievable achievement.

With the press of the button, the machine's bullet firing slowed down, and the results appeared on the screen.

"Within 60 seconds, 0 hits, 0 contact with the red light. Perfect!" Chief Instructor Wu Tong exclaimed in astonishment. "Extraordinary, Yun Ye! I congratulate you. Once the official documents arrive and the data is recorded, you will officially be a Potential Fighter! After you complete your first genetic energy training, contact Instructor Jiang Nian directly. He will have you tested for the contract."

"Yun Ye, remember the date of the True Fighter Assessment on August 1st. If you pass that assessment, you will officially become a Fighter," said Instructor Jiang Nian with a smile.

Chief Instructor Wu Tong, who was standing next to the Reaction Speed Testing Machine, laughed: "Alright, next."

Shortly after, the other candidate also completed the test, but he was eliminated after touching the red light twice.

Chief Instructor Wu Tong announced the result: "Okay, the only person to pass this month's Potential Fighter assessment is: Yun Ye."

After saying this, Wu Tong turned and left.

Instructor Jiang Nian and the instructors next to him looked at Yun Ye, a look of satisfaction on their faces. "Come with us to the training hall."

They left the Reaction Speed Test Room and entered the large training hall.

"These are the contracts required for the Fighter Combat Assessment," said an experienced-looking stocky fighter, pulling a folder from the corner of the hall. "When you participate in the Fighter Combat Assessment, the Limits Hall is not responsible for any deaths! Of course, the death rate in the fighter combat assessment is quite low."

Yun Ye took the contract, carefully reviewed its contents, and signed it.

"All set."

Instructor Jiang Nian smiled, "Good. Today is June 1st, so you have two months until the real assessment. Make good use of this time and make the proper preparations. Ah, yes!" Instructor Jiang Nian walked to a control panel next to him and quickly pressed a few keys. In a short while, a large screen appeared on the wall of the training hall, and a text was displayed on it.

The title was "Genetic Energy Technique".

"Finally, the time has come," Yun Ye thought to himself.

Instructor Jiang Nian briefly explained the concept of genetic energy. Then he pointed to the article on the screen: "This is the technique for strengthening your genes - the Five Hearts to the Sky Technique! It is the only and fundamental way to train your genetic energy."

Yun Ye began to read the text carefully:

Genetic Energy, the strengthening of the human gene, relying on evolution!

He carved every word into his mind.

"You can start training your genetic energy now. But remember, once you complete your first training, let me know so we can sign the contract," Instructor Jiang Nian advised with a smile. "And access to the most valuable 'Guidance Techniques' will only be possible after you become an official Fighter."

There was only one way to train genetic energy in the world.

However, millions of different 'Guidance Techniques' existed. A good Guidance Technique would increase training speed by at least several times.

Instructor Jiang Nian said his final words: "Okay, today's Potential Fighter assessment ends here. Yun Ye, you can go home now."

"Understood, Instructor Jiang Nian."

Yun Ye left the Ming-yue Sector and started walking home, his mind filled with the secrets of the Five Hearts to the Sky Technique.
