Chapter 80 - 'SEE YOU MORNING' 080 Parting in Life and Death 《

In 2052, the full-scale confrontation between the Eastern and Western blocs, led by China and the United States respectively, concluded through a negotiated settlement. Even extraterrestrial forces from various races orbiting Earth intervened to prevent a large-scale nuclear conflict.

Ten years later, weighed down by prolonged arms races and wars, the federal government of the United States ceased to exist. Artificial intelligence technology models replaced the original bureaucratic institutions, completely liberating the free market and technology.

Across the ocean, China has also leveraged artificial intelligence to streamline its bloated bureaucracy. However, guided by a different governance philosophy, it places greater emphasis on timely human intervention and maintaining social balance and stability.

After navigating life's many trials, Lin Yuhui seemed to be nearing the end of his journey. Lying in his bed, he reflected on his daughter—his only remaining relative—whose path had been fraught with difficulties. Though he understood that hardship could forge character, the inability to support his child left him with a lingering sense of regret.

She followed her mother's path in life, yet Lin Yuhui understood her child well. She was somewhat enigmatic, like her mother, but her inner sensitivity and attachment mirrored her own. Yet she lacked her mother's rebellious streak and individuality. As a woman, she inevitably bore a heavier burden than both herself and her mother.

"Do you visit the child often?" Lin Yuhui reminded her, hoping the child would offer her some comfort after he was gone. Yet he knew deep down that if their daughter had a close bond with the child, she would have brought the child along today.

"Yes, I go there often."

"Children have their own paths in life. He's grown up now, so don't interfere too much."

"Yeah, I know."

Lin Yuhui paused, saying no more. He had suggested many times when she was young that she live with him, but she had been blinded by those around her. By the time she understood the truth of this world, it was already too late.

How he wished his daughter could have trusted him unconditionally from the very beginning, that he could have paved an easier, happier path for her life—rather than leaving her with such profound regret when she looked back on her journey.

"Dad," the daughter sat at his bedside, reluctant to leave, and took his hand.

Lin Yuhui wanted to take his daughter's hand, just as he had when she was little—to guide her, to protect her. But the impulse only traveled from his shoulder to his elbow before stopping, and his hand remained perfectly still in hers.

In the silence, her own indifference felt like an arrow piercing her heart. Lin Yuhui didn't want her daughter to feel such pain, so she spoke softly,

"I'm fine, you go back. I won't die anytime soon," she said, recalling all those years she'd been forced apart from her child. By the time she understood everything, it was already too late. Ah, that's the price of youth.

Lin Yuhui couldn't understand either. If her connection to him was so faint, why did she come to be his daughter? Was it merely because he owed her a debt? Yet throughout this life as plain as water, he hadn't offered her any help. Could it be to sever the ties between them?

Dad, I'll head back now and come over again tomorrow.

"Mhm," she replied, noticing her daughter had already turned away and was quietly weeping. Lin Yuhui reached out and took her hand.

"Daughter, don't cry. Haven't I told you before? People have souls, and souls never die. If you wish, you can come back as my daughter in the next life."

Hearing her father say this, the daughter who had already turned to leave could no longer hold back her tears. She spun around and threw herself into Lin Yuhui's arms, crying out "Daddy!" as she sobbed uncontrollably.

Lin Yuhui closed his eyes, gently stroking his daughter's hair to comfort her as tears rolled down his cheeks. This was the first hug his daughter had given her father since she grew up.

In the special operations intelligence room of a starship orbiting Earth's low orbit, Liana was assigning tasks:

"Extract him tonight. Replace his body with the prepared clone. Then extract his consciousness and connect it to his existing clones aged 15 to 80. Block historical memories beyond the physical age of the host clone. Dispatch surface agents to contact his daughter. Arrange for their ages to be reversed to 20 when they join our surface front company. Use his age-appropriate consciousness to control his surface clones, but prohibit access to his lifetime historical memories."

After speaking, he scanned the room with his gaze.

"The rest of the details remain as previously planned. Any questions?"

"No,"

"Alright, we can proceed according to plan."

"Yes, Your Majesty."

After finishing work for the day, I returned to the living quarters. Passing by Lydia's room, I found the door open. She was bent over, rummaging through her toy bin, with various toy cars scattered on the floor and several open toothpaste tubes lying about.

Liana was curious about what she was doing, so she walked in and asked,

"What are you doing?"

Lydia turned to see her sister approaching and replied,

"Just hanging out."

"What are you playing at? Making such a mess?" Liana wondered what was going through her mind again.

"Find the wheels," Lydia said without turning back, continuing to rummage through things on her own.

Liana didn't ask any more questions either. She just sat beside her, watching as they chatted casually.

"You said he wouldn't go with you—what exactly happened?"

Lydia didn't look back either.

"Oh, I found out when he passed away—I went ahead and visited him early," he said, rummaging through things with a clatter before pulling out an old wind-up toy car to examine.

At the time, other entities also came to take him away, but I stopped them all. Yet he didn't believe me.

"Why doesn't he believe you?" Liana asked. I think he cares about you too.

He simply doesn't trust anyone. He says even if he saw my true self, he wouldn't believe it. He fears being subjected to sensory projection. He claims he's never died, so he doesn't understand anything about this side and won't believe it.

"Oh,"

"Sis, did you extract it from him? Before he died?" Lydia asked as she sat down at the table with a toy car, a used ballpoint pen refill, and some tape.

"Yes, tonight."

Lydia glanced at Liana and smiled at her.

"He waited a long time," Lydia muttered to herself as she cut open the toothpaste tube with scissors.

Liana smiled softly but said nothing.

Liana smiled softly, saying nothing.

Lydia cut two slits along the right angle of the toothpaste box, then pushed it inward to form a wheel arch. She cut a section of an empty ballpoint pen refill, removed one wheel, and threaded the axle through it. Finally, she secured the front wheel in place with tape. For the rear wheel arch, Lydia didn't use the same method; instead, she cut a hole to create a hidden wheel hub design.

Next, she cut open the other side of the toothpaste tube, folded it, and shaped it into a car seat.

Liana watched from the side, smiling. Lydia glanced up at her but said nothing, simply continuing to play on her own. Then she ran over to the toy bin, fetched the LEGO engineer and Barbie doll, and placed them in the car.

"Oh," Lydia pondered for a moment, then dug out two more cups from the LEGO blocks. She stared at them thoughtfully, plucked a strand of her own hair, cut it off, threaded it through the cups, tied them together, and hung the contraption on the back of the car.

Seeing this, Liana smiled and said,

"I extracted him only to understand human behavioral patterns."

"Oh..." Lydia drew out the syllable, glancing at her sister before mimicking the sound with her own mouth, "Woo-woo," playing at driving.

After circling a few times, the car came to a stop. The male and female protagonists got out and stood facing each other.

At that moment, Lydia seemed to think of something else. She reached into the toy bin and pulled out a LEGO lawyer figure, placing it in front of the two dolls.

Then began the process of dubbing for him.

Groom, do you take the woman before you to be your lawful wife?

Saying this, he lifted the engineer with his hand.

"I do. I promise I won't let myself hurt her feelings."

Upon hearing this, Liana burst out laughing and said,

"You... you stole his lines!"

Lydia picked up the Barbie doll again, her eyes fixed on Liana.

Under her gaze, Liana gradually let her smile fade.
