Chapter 32 - Chapter 32 Pokémon Race

The morning sun cast its rays over the grasslands where the Laramie tribe lived, a gentle breeze rustling the grass in waves, filling the air with the fresh scent of green.

Ash, Pikachu, Xiao You, and Brock stood at the village entrance, gazing at the endless prairie before them, their hearts light and refreshed.

"This place is truly beautiful!" Xiao You exclaimed, unable to contain her admiration.

"Indeed," Brock explained with a smile, "the Laramie tribe is renowned for raising Pokémon, and their Pokémon are all exceptionally fine."

Just then, a young woman in traditional Laramie attire rode a Ponyta towards them.

She had long, dark hair and her eyes were both resolute and gentle.

"Hello, everyone, I am Tomoko Laramie," the young woman said, reining in her Ponyta and greeting them with a smile.

"Hello, Tomoko! I'm Ash, and this is my partner Pikachu!" Ash responded excitedly.

"Pika Pika!" Pikachu also waved his little paw.

"I'm Xiao You."

"I'm Brock, pleased to meet you."

Tomoko nodded: "Welcome to the Laramie tribe's grasslands.

You've arrived at just the right time; our village is about to hold its annual Pokémon Race."

"A Pokémon Race?" Ash's eyes lit up.

"That sounds interesting!"

"Yes, Trainers and Pokémon compete together, traversing grasslands, lakes, mountains, and plains, finally reaching the finish line," Tomoko explained, "I originally planned to compete with Ponyta, but..."

She lowered her head, a look of regret on her face.

"What's wrong?" Xiao You asked with concern.

Tomoko raised her arm, which was wrapped in bandages: "Yesterday, during training, I accidentally fell off Ponyta and injured my arm.

The doctor said I need a few days of rest and can't participate in the race."

"That's truly a shame," Brock sighed.

"However," Tomoko looked up, her gaze fixed firmly on Ash, "I think you can take my place in the race!

Ponyta trusts you, and you have extensive experience in Pokémon battles."

"Me?" Ash was a little surprised, but quickly became excited.

"Okay! I'll do my best!"

"That's great!" Tomoko smiled.

"I'll take you to get familiar with how to ride Ponyta first."

In the time that followed, Tomoko patiently taught Ash how to work with Ponyta.

Ponyta was a bit nervous at first, but gradually relaxed under Ash's soothing touch.

"Remember, racing isn't just about speed; it also requires the unspoken understanding between you and your Pokémon," Tomoko admonished.

"I understand!" Ash nodded.

On the day of the race

The grasslands buzzed with activity, as Laramie villagers and Trainers from various places gathered to cheer on the contestants.

At the starting line, a dozen Trainers and their Pokémon were already ready.

"Ash, good luck!" Xiao You and Brock stood to the side, waving to him.

"Pikachu, you cheer for me too!" Ash said with a smile.

"Pika!" Pikachu jumped onto Xiao You's shoulder, waving his little paw.

Tomoko walked up to Ash and whispered, "Be careful of Dolph, he was last year's Champion, and he'll stop at nothing to win."

Ash followed her gaze and saw a tall man staring coldly at him, with a majestic Arcanine by his side.

"I'll be careful," Ash nodded.

The referee raised the flag: "On your marks—get set—go!"

With the command, all contestants shot off like arrows from a bow.

Ponyta's speed was incredibly fast, and Ash gripped the reins tightly, feeling the wind whistle past his ears.

"This is great, Ponyta!" Ash shouted excitedly.

The first section of the track was grassland, where Pokémon needed to cross rolling grassy hills.

Ponyta leaped nimbly, quickly taking the lead over most of its opponents.

"Ash, look out!" Brock's voice came from a distance.

Ash looked back and saw Dolph's Arcanine closing in on him, its eyes glinting with malice.

"Arcanine, use Flamethrower!" Dolph ordered.

A scorching flame shot directly towards Ponyta.

"Ponyta, dodge quickly!" Ash shouted urgently.

Ponyta nimbly dodged with a side jump, avoiding the flames, but its speed was slightly reduced as a result.

"Darn it, Dolph is attacking others during the race!" Xiao You said indignantly.

"That's just how he is," Tomoko clenched her fist.

"Ash, you can do it!"

Ash took a deep breath and patted Ponyta's neck: "Don't mind them, let's keep going!"

Ponyta neighed and accelerated again.

Soon, they arrived at the lake area.

The lake was dotted with rocks of various sizes, and Pokémon needed to jump across the rocks to pass.

"Ponyta, watch your footing!" Ash commanded with full concentration.

Ponyta leaped lightly onto a rock, then a second, a third... However, just as they were about to reach the opposite bank, a rock suddenly came loose.

"Careful!" Ash exclaimed.

Ponyta lost its balance, its front hooves slipped, and it nearly fell into the water.

At the critical moment, Ponyta made a desperate leap and landed steadily on the shore.

"That was close!" Ash breathed a sigh of relief.

"Good job, Ponyta!"

However, before they could catch their breath, a dark shadow flashed past—it was Team Rockets' hot air balloon!

"You brats, don't think you'll win so easily!" Jessie's voice came from the hot air balloon.

"Since you asked so sincerely!" James continued.

"We'll tell you with great compassion!" Meowth jumped out.

"To prevent the world from being destroyed!"

"To protect the peace of the world!"

"We are Team Rockets, soaring through the galaxy!"

"White hole, a white tomorrow awaits us!"

"That's right, Meowth!"

"It's you guys again!" Ash cried out helplessly.

"Hehe, this time we won't let you escape easily!" Jessie cackled and pressed a button, and countless capture nets shot out from beneath the hot air balloon.

"Ponyta, run!" Ash quickly commanded.

Ponyta galloped furiously, but the capture nets covered too wide an area, and it seemed they were about to be ensnared.

Just at this critical moment, Ponyta's body suddenly burst forth with dazzling light.

"This is... evolution!" Ash cried out in surprise.

As the light faded, a tall and majestic Rapidash appeared before everyone.

Its mane was like burning flames, and its eyes were filled with power.

"This is great, Rapidash!" Ash excitedly leaped onto its back.

"Let's go!"

Rapidash neighed, its speed instantly increased, easily dodging Team Rockets' capture nets.

"Darn it, it evolved!" James fumed.

"Don't think you can escape!" Jessie still wanted to pursue, but the hot air balloon suddenly went out of control, swaying erratically as it flew off into the distance.

"What a dreadful feeling!" The voices of the three gradually faded into the sky.

Having shaken off Team Rockets' interference, Ash and Rapidash continued forward.

The next section of the track was the mountain area, where steep mountain paths deterred many Pokémon.

"Rapidash, can you do it?" Ash was a little worried.

Rapidash neighed confidently, striding forward as if on flat ground, charging up the mountain path.

Its strength and speed combined perfectly, and it quickly overtook the opponents ahead.

"That's incredible!" Xiao You watched from afar, dumbfounded.

"This is the power of evolution," Brock said with a smile.

After crossing the big mountain, a vast plain stretched before them.

The finish line was already in sight, but Dolph's Arcanine was still hot on their heels.

"Don't think you can beat me!" Dolph shouted through gritted teeth.

"Rapidash, final sprint!" Ash was fearless.

Rapidash ran with all its might, its four hooves kicking up wind, as if transforming into a fiery meteor.

Although Arcanine was extremely fast, it was still slightly inferior to Rapidash's explosive power.

Finally, Ash and Rapidash were the first to cross the finish line!

"The winners are Ash and Rapidash!" the referee announced loudly.

The audience erupted in enthusiastic applause and cheers.

Ash jumped off Rapidash's back and excitedly hugged it.

"We did it, Rapidash! Thank you so much!"

Rapidash affectionately rubbed its head against Ash's face.

Tomoko ran over, tears glistening in her eyes: "Ash, you were amazing! Thank you for making my wish come true."

"This is the result of our combined efforts," Ash said with a smile.

Dolph walked over with a gloomy face, snorting coldly: "Don't get cocky; I won't lose next time."

"Anytime!" Ash responded confidently.

At the awards ceremony, Ash accepted the Champion's trophy, and Rapidash also received an honorary medal awarded by the Laramie tribe.

As night fell, bonfires were lit on the grasslands, and the villagers sang and danced, celebrating the successful conclusion of the race.

Ash and his companions sat around the bonfire, enjoying the joyful atmosphere.

"Ash, we're continuing our journey tomorrow," Xiao You said with a hint of reluctance.

"Yes, but I'll always remember this experience," Ash nodded.

Tomoko walked over and handed him a small package: "These are some local specialties I prepared; take them with you on your journey."

"Thank you, Tomoko," Ash gratefully accepted it.

The next morning, Ash, Xiao You, Brock, and Pikachu bid farewell to Tomoko and Rapidash, embarking on a new journey.

"Goodbye, Rapidash! Let's race together again sometime!" Ash waved back.

Rapidash neighed, as if responding to his farewell.

The wind on the prairie was still gentle, and the sun cast its rays on their retreating figures, as a new adventure awaited them.

The race begins!

With the referee's signal, all contestants and Pokémon shot off like arrows from a bow.

Ponyta's speed was extremely fast, and Ash gripped its mane tightly, feeling the wind whistle past his ears.

"This is great, Ponyta! Keep up this speed!" Ash shouted excitedly.

However, just as they were about to reach the first obstacle—the lake area—a dark shadow suddenly approached from the side.

"Hehe, don't think you'll win!" Dolph, riding a Dodrio, deliberately squeezed towards Ash's direction.

"Careful!" Ash quickly adjusted direction, but Ponyta was still bumped, stumbled, and almost lost its balance.

"Darn it!" Ash gritted his teeth, steadying himself, and looked up at Dolph, "You're cheating!"

"The rules don't say you can't interfere with opponents!" Dolph sneered and accelerated forward.

The lake was dotted with rocks of various sizes, and contestants needed to jump precisely to pass smoothly.

Ponyta leaped lightly, landing steadily on the first rock.

"Good job!" Ash encouraged.

However, just as they were about to reach the opposite bank, the lake surface suddenly exploded, and a giant Tentacruel abruptly extended its tentacles, blocking their path!

"What?!" Ash exclaimed in shock.

"Hahaha, didn't expect that, did you!" Dolph turned back triumphantly, "This is a 'surprise' I specially prepared!"

"Despicable!" Ash clenched his fists in anger.

Just as Tentacruel was about to attack, a flash of electricity shot out—

"Pikachu, Thunderbolt!" Xiao You's voice came from the shore.

"Pika—chu—!" The golden current instantly struck the Tentacruel, which wailed and sank into the water.

"Xiao You! Pikachu! Thank you!" Ash shouted gratefully.

"Don't stop, chase!" Xiao You waved, signaling.

Ponyta accelerated again, finally rushing through the lake area.

The steep mountain path slowed down many contestants, but Ponyta still maintained astonishing explosive power.

However, just as they were about to reach the summit, the ground suddenly shook!

"Rumble—" Boulders rolled down from the mountaintop, hurtling straight towards them!

"Oh no!" Ash's pupils contracted.

"Ponyta, use Flame Wheel!" He had a flash of inspiration and shouted loudly.

Ponyta immediately spun its body, hot flames enveloping it, instantly shattering the rolling rocks!

"That's awesome!" Ash excitedly patted its neck.

However, before he could celebrate for long, a series of explosions suddenly erupted ahead—

"Since you refuse a toast and prefer a forfeit, don't blame me for being impolite!" Dolph stood on the mountaintop, sneering as he pressed the remote control in his hand.

"Boom!" Rocks on the track exploded one after another, and thick smoke billowed!

"Is this guy crazy?!" Ash was utterly shocked.

"Ash! Look out!" Brock's voice came from a distance.

Just at the critical moment, Ponyta suddenly burst forth with dazzling light!

"This is... evolution?!"

As the light faded, a tall and mighty Rapidash appeared before Ash!

Its mane was like burning flames, and its eyes were filled with power!

"Rapidash!" Ash cried out in surprise.

Rapidash neighed, and with a mighty leap, it carried Ash directly through the explosion zone!

Dolph was already far ahead, but Rapidash's speed was even faster!

Its hooves pounded the grass, approaching its opponent like a strong wind.

"Impossible! How could you catch up?!" Dolph turned back in disbelief.

"Because Rapidash and I are true partners!" Ash said firmly.

The finish line was in sight!

"Rapidash, final sprint!"

Rapidash unleashed all its power, like a red lightning bolt, instantly surpassing Dolph!

"Winner—Ash and Rapidash!" the referee announced loudly.

The entire venue erupted in enthusiastic cheers!

"Congratulations, Ash!" Tomoko walked over with a smile.

"I knew you could win."

"It's all thanks to your trust!" Ash scratched his head, laughing.

Dolph walked over with a gloomy face, gritting his teeth and saying, "You got lucky this time!"

"Dolph, a race relies on strength, not despicable tactics," Brock said seriously.

"Hmph!" Dolph snorted coldly and turned to leave.

That evening, the Laramie tribe held a grand celebration feast.

Rapidash stood beside Ash, affectionately rubbing its shoulder against him.

"It seems to really like you," Tomoko said with a smile.

"Yeah..." Ash felt a bit reluctant, "It's a shame we have to continue our journey tomorrow."

"It's okay, Rapidash will always remember you," Tomoko comforted.

Ash and his two companions packed their bags, preparing to leave the grasslands.

"Goodbye, Tomoko! Goodbye, Rapidash!" Ash waved goodbye.

Rapidash neighed, as if responding to him.

"Let's go, Pikachu!"

"Pika!"

Their figures gradually disappeared into the morning light, as a new adventure awaited them...
