Emilia screamed as a work desk missed her by the slightest millimeter and exploding into rubble a few feet before her. The air that whipped by in its face gave her a slight burn. Her eyes scanned everywhere desperately looking for an exit but there was no window, no door, not even a trash chute in sight.
She felt like she was in a box cage with whatever was trying to kill her. "That's thing's not a human being." She told herself as she leapt over a work desk with what should have been eloquent grace had she not been chased by a relentless man.
She looked back over her chest to find the suicidal man quickly gaining on her, at the rate at which things went she feared he would catch up to her. And she doubted that talking would be the first thing on his mind.
"Emilia, don't stop running." She told herself as tears streamed down her face. "Dad, please answer me!" She cried out but there was no response.
That day her heart sped like a treadmill, it beat so hard that it threatened to escape her ribcage. Her hands swung so hard and her legs ran so fast that she felt they had come off seconds earlier.
Her eyes widened as she felt a hand grab her by the hoodie and pulled her back, sending her flying with so much force that she flew over thirty feet and smashed into a concrete wall. Her world spun so fast, giving her no time to register anything.
A loud scream left her lungs as she impacted the wall, a web of cracks spun itself from the impact. She fell down on her bottom gasping and groaning. Her mouth soon started to taste the cold metallic taste or blood, her mind struggled to catch up.
Her mind repeated the same words over and over. "There's no way he's human, he can't be." She raised her head as much as her body could allow her to see the strange man now walking towards her slowly. Her eyes went wide with fear, she looked like a wild dog seeing fire for the first time. And just like that she knew she would get burned if the stayed to find out what that man would do to her.
"Move!" She screamed to her body as she tried to muster up all the strength she had left. But the best she could get was a twitch from her finger. She could hear the crunching of rubble and that screeching of metal cutting through concrete as it came closer. "Move dammit!" She cried out, this time her body sprang back to life giving her only a second of relief before she to her feet.
"What the fuck do you want from me you psychopath." She screamed as she tried to find an exit.
The man blitzed through the office and threw a strong blow to her face, she threw all her weight to her side and rolled out of the way of a ballistic punch smashing into the wall.
Her eyes widened with fear at the sight, "What the fuck just happened. Did that man just punch through the wall." She could not stop to think what would have happened if that blow met her skull.
Up close she could finally tell who was attacking her, the man slowly turned to stare at her horrifying her with its look. It had the face of a man, or was meant to but that was where the similarities ended.
There was no nose, neither was there any lips on it. The only thing it had were eye sockets, one of his was empty— as if it's eye had been pulled out of its socket. The other was a small glowing red orb that barely resembles an eye. The man was dressed in office clothes that were torn to rags, when the man looked at her she could only see a cold gleam in a metallic face.
She jaw dropped. "It's can't be."
The man tried to grab her but missed her by a bare millimeter. She pulled back as fast as she could, her eyes scanned through her surroundings trying to find anything she could use to her advantage.
"Tell me that's not what I think it is." She throught to herself. "If it is, then I'm really fucked."
She found a small lighter and a packet of cigarettes scattered on the floor. She grabbed the lighter and climbed up to her feet, the man was still struggling to pull his hand out of the wall.
Emilia racked her mind to think about a way out of the situation, her eyes scanned the room but there was nothing that she could use in her defense. Not given the reflexes of her opponent.
Her eyes soon caught a glance of the sprinkler system, and an idea blossomed amidst the crisis. "It could work."s,
W
She battles against her aching body and climbed on top one of the work tables to reach for the sprinklers. She tried to ignite the lighter but exact time she pulled the trigger nothing happened. Her heart thumped harder, she could hear the sound of the man struggling to break free from the wall.
She flicked the switch the first time, then a second, then a third but not refused to come to life. On the fourth, a small flame came to life right under the sprinkler. But there was no alarm, her heart sunk into a cold pit, leaving her speechless.
A second later the sprinkler system came to life bathing the whole office in water but the strange man was already freeze. By the time it looked in her direction, she was gone.
Emilia hid behind a turned over desk praying the water would short circuit what she believed to be— A robot.
It started to looked around the room trying to find her, Emilia was getting soaked by the sprinklers she had hoped the water would short circuit it but her hopes had been cast aside.
She reached for a computer she could pick and waited for the robot to approach where she hid. It was not facing her way when she struck, she rammed the computer into its head and watched the robot stumble forward.
It's head started to give up sparks that reacted violently with the sprinkler system. It was like watching a horrified display as the human like machine started to give up sparks and stagger till it fell over.
Emilia heaved a deep sigh of relief, she wanted to put as much distance as she could from her and the machine. "That was... Scary. I can't believe I almost died." She said with a sigh as she walked in the direction the machine came from, it was the only place she had not checked for an exit.
As she walked onward she stumbled unto a door that had ripped off it's hinges. It led to a stair way that led deeper into the earth, the lights were barely visible. It caused shivers to run down her spine.
"I am going to regret this, aren't I?" She spoke lightly, her feet started to carry her forward. In search of her father.
As she progressed deeper down the stairs the sprinklers started to stop and the fingers of the robot— twitched.
