Chapter 92 - [DEM] 92: Ambush

To the Shinigami, Morpheus was like a ghost, unseen.

With his uncanny stealth, he slipped effortlessly into the Research and Development Institute, finding Mayuri Kurotsuchi conducting experiments in a lab.

Captain of the Twelfth Division and head of the institute.

Once Kisuke Urahara's subordinate.

Mayuri had striking yellow eyes and often wore a black-and-white mask, his Shinigami robes adorned with a flared, deep purple collar.

He had the air of a jester.

But his true face, revealed in the Soul Society arc, was decent enough—a man with short blue hair and a body stitched with scars.

The aesthetic of a mad scientist.

Over a century before the Bleach storyline, Mayuri was a prisoner in the Nest of Maggots. Urahara, recognizing his potential, recruited him as the Third Seat of the Twelfth Division and deputy head of the nascent Research and Development Institute.

Later, he succeeded Urahara as captain and institute head, using his expertise in soul technology to create his "daughter," Nemu Kurotsuchi.

Few knew of Mayuri's life before his imprisonment.

The plot never revealed it.

Morpheus didn't care. He sought Mayuri to determine if he was the mastermind creating Hollows to attack humans.

Given Mayuri's mad scientist reputation, it wasn't unthinkable.

So, Morpheus found him and delivered a sharp slap.

Smack!

Mayuri felt a blow to the back of his head, the force so intense it seemed his skull might split.

Agonizing pain surged through him, and his brain shut down in self-preservation.

As Mayuri collapsed, unconscious, Morpheus cast a spell to forcibly read his memories.

To his surprise, Mayuri had anticipated this, setting Kidō traps in his mind to destroy relevant memories if probed.

A ruthless move.

Morpheus couldn't help but admire it. But Mayuri's Kidō was subpar, and Morpheus bypassed the traps with ease, delving into his memories.

What he found confirmed Mayuri had indeed researched human souls.

In fact, his soul experiments landed him in prison, only for Urahara to spring him and make him an aide.

No wonder Urahara suspected him—a repeat offender.

However, Mayuri's research used Rukongai souls, not creating Hollows or sending them to harvest human souls.

Thus, Mayuri was cleared.

That left one suspect.

Sosuke Aizen.

Bleach's most charismatic villain.

While Yhwach was the strongest, Aizen's charm outshone him by miles.

Among Bleach's rogues, Aizen was the most captivating.

Now, Morpheus would see if he was the mastermind.

Leaving the institute, he headed to the Fifth Division's barracks, finding Aizen writing at his desk.

Before revealing his true nature, Aizen sported an honest man's hairstyle and plain glasses, the picture of a kind soul.

Only after his betrayal did the Soul Society realize he was its deepest schemer.

Then, he shed his good-guy facade, spouting iconic lines:

"Admiration is the furthest thing from understanding."

"Don't speak so recklessly; it only reveals your weakness."

"Vitality disproportionate to strength is merely wasteful."

"Whether you sweep away one speck of dust or two, it makes no difference to the naked eye."

"Don't cling too stubbornly. Stepping over an ant without killing it is a power hard to master."

"No one stands in the heavens from the start—not you, not me, not even gods. But the throne's vacancy ends now. Henceforth, I shall stand at the top!!!"

"Our path forward knows no rivals…"

With each quip, Aizen's aura soared.

He became an irresistibly charismatic villain.

Not just in Bleach—few antagonists in any series matched his flair.

Undoubtedly, he was a deep, capable, thoughtful, and driven villain.

Though he faltered at the end.

With the Hōgyoku's aid, he evolved into a moth-like monstrosity, hideously unappealing.

Then, a sleeker Ichigo Kurosaki defeated him.

Some joked Aizen lost not because of strength but because his style couldn't match Ichigo's.

In Bleach, battles weren't just about reiatsu—they were about flair.

Low flair meant defeat was inevitable.

A moth form wasn't easy to pull off.

Morpheus planned to knock Aizen out with a slap, as he did Mayuri, and read his memories to confirm if he was the mastermind.

But before he could act, Aizen paused his writing and said with a smile, "Oh my, a distinguished guest arrives, and I didn't greet you. My apologies."

Morpheus froze, meeting Aizen's piercing gaze. He'd been noticed.

That was unexpected. He sat across from Aizen.

"Interesting. I wasn't hiding, but with your strength, you shouldn't have detected me."

"How did you spot me?"

In Bleach, Aizen's power was top-tier, but in this crossover world, he wouldn't crack the top thirty.
