Chapter 46 - [DEM] 46: Hell

Rias Gremory, Akeno Himejima, and Sona Sitri were left speechless by Morpheus's words.

Was the future really that dire?

Either Japan falls, or the entire male population gets wiped out.

It did sound like something devils would do—unscrupulous in pursuit of their goals.

But why?

Rias and Sona couldn't fathom it. Why would devils go to such lengths to destroy humanity? What grudge did they hold?

Rias's expression grew solemn. "I don't know anything about this, but I'm certain our kind would never do something so heinous."

"There must be a misunderstanding. Please give me some time to contact the higher-ups among the devils and get the full picture."

"Fine," Morpheus nodded.

Rias Gremory, though the next Head of the House of Gremory, was still too young to be among the devil elite.

She'd need to reach out to those higher up.

"How much time do you need?"

"I'll expedite it and get you an answer by tonight," Rias replied.

"No problem." Morpheus stood, with Medea and Paracelsus following suit. "I'll poke around Kuoh Town in the meantime and wait for your news."

Rias nodded.

Morpheus led his two companions out of Kuoh Academy, strolling through the town's streets.

Medea asked curiously, "Boss, can those two young devils really resolve this?"

Morpheus replied, "They can't, but the people behind them can."

"Rias Gremory has a brother who is a Satan, and Sona Sitri also has a sister who is a Satan."

Medea was surprised. Those two young devils had such powerful backers?

No wonder the Boss brought them here.

He wasn't after the young devils but the figures behind them.

They were just a bridge to the real players.

"Boss, I have a question. You seem to know a lot about them," Medea said.

"Sort of."

"Why?" Medea pressed. "Why do you know so much about those two?"

Her woman's intuition told her Morpheus's knowledge of them stemmed from… questionable interests.

Perhaps he was drawn to their beauty and had a thing for their figures.

If Morpheus knew Medea's thoughts, he'd commend her perceptiveness.

He was quite taken with their impressive figures.

At her question, Morpheus hesitated before saying, "I was interested in them, so I looked into it."

"…Boss, you're brutally honest."

"Yep, that's me—honest and reliable," Morpheus said shamelessly.

"..."

Time flowed like water, passing in a blink.

That evening, Morpheus, Medea, and Paracelsus settled in a park, savoring a dinner provided by Erina Nakiri and Hisako.

As they ate with relish, a magic circle materialized before them. With a flash of light, Rias stepped out.

"My apologies for interrupting."

"The Hell has sent two high-ranking officials to discuss the Umbrella Corporation matter with you. Do you have time to talk?"

"Sure," Morpheus nodded with a grin. "But we'll finish dinner first."

Rias agreed without hesitation. "Of course."

Morpheus chewed a piece of steak, casually asking, "Who are the higher-ups the devils sent this time?"

Rias replied, "The Grand Duke of the House of Gremory, a trusted vassal of His Majesty the Satan and my brother, Sirzechs Gremory."

"And the Grand Duchess of the House of Sitri, Serafall Sitri."

Morpheus's eyes flickered with intrigue.

If he recalled correctly, in Highschool DxD, Sirzechs and Serafall were Satans.

Sirzechs inherited the title of Lucifer, and Serafall took on Leviathan.

This was because, during the Great War, the God of the Bible and the four original Satans perished.

When Sirzechs and Serafall reached Satan-level power, they assumed those titles, becoming the new generation of Satans.

But in this crossover world, the Satans hadn't died.

Thus, neither Sirzechs nor Serafall had inherited those titles—they were still Grand Dukes.

Morpheus also noted that Rias had said "Hell," not "Underworld."

In Highschool DxD, devils resided in the Underworld.

Yet here, it was the Hell.

This suggested the crossover world had blended Highschool DxD with other devil-related series, causing significant changes to its storyline.

What those changes were, Morpheus wasn't sure.

He'd have to dig deeper into the Hell later to find out.

After finishing dinner quickly, Morpheus and his group followed Rias back to Kuoh Academy.

They returned to her clubroom.

Two powerful devils were already waiting inside.

Serafall, seeing Morpheus and his group enter, said with a hint of displeasure, "Making a lady wait isn't very gentlemanly."

Morpheus nodded earnestly. "You're right. It was my mistake to keep an elderly lady waiting. I'll be more mindful next time."

"You—you—you!" Serafall fumed, her anger flaring.

Even devils cared about their age, especially Serafall, who looked youthful.

Being called an "elderly lady" Shattered her composure.

Sona, standing nearby, couldn't help but snicker.

She'd never seen her sister so flustered—it was refreshing.

"Sona!" Serafall stomped her foot, annoyed at her sister's teasing. "Keep that up, and I'll get mad!"

"A centuries-old lady playing cute?" Morpheus quipped slyly.

Sona felt like Morpheus was speaking her mind.

She'd long found her sister's cutesy act grating but never dared say it aloud.

Now, she secretly hoped Morpheus would keep going.

Serafall, meanwhile, was on the verge of exploding, barely restraining herself from punching Morpheus into orbit.
