"Try to smile, you look like someone stole your money," my Lycan, Ash, pointed out as I walked into the hall.
I wasn't in the mood to smile at anyone because knowing my weakness could make others want to attack me easily.
"I am not in the mood for jokes," I told Ash and headed toward my table, where my mother, father, and, surprisingly, Rania, were all seated. It was the mating ball again, and I wanted to leave there so badly.
The gathering was filled with powerful Lycans and wolves seeking their mates, but since I had no Queen, the mating ball always ended with unclaimed mates. It was a tradition in the kingdom, allowing those who found their mates at the ball to be together only if the Alpha king had a mate, while others who found their mates elsewhere were also allowed to be with them.
Because I had refused to pick a mate, most werewolves and Lycans avoided the mating ball, fearing they would not find their intended mates.
