To continue our story, the brother Harry spoke of was none other than the chief warden of Jiangzhou, the "Divine Traveler" Dai Zong.
This Warden Dai's martial arts were average, but he possessed a unique divine traveling-skill, singular among the 108 heroes of Mount Liang.
Harry had wanted to learn this divine skill, and Dai Zong had been willing to teach him. After dozens of days of hard practice, the scarred lad had learned seven or eight parts of it.
Hearing Harry's words, Hermione was curious. "What is a 'Jia Ma'?"
Harry grinned. "The tongue cannot describe its marvels. You must see it with your own eyes."
He told Hermione what items were needed for the talismans and added, "This one's pockets are full of clinking Galleons, but I did not bring enough pounds. I will need Big Sister to advance me the funds."
Hermione's parents were both dentists and well-off; a few banknotes were nothing to them. She nodded. "No problem. You just buy what you need, I'll pay."
Mrs. Granger, hearing this, frowned slightly. What is this silly child thinking? Even with a good friend, you can't just throw money around.
Especially with a friend of the opposite sex.
She thought Hermione naive. She gave her daughter a light kick on the ankle to teach her some sense.
But a daughter knows her mother. With that one light kick, Hermione understood everything.
She cried out in frustration, "Mum! Harry and I are friends! Talking about money is an insult to our relationship!"
"Ahem! Hermione, Mummy didn't say anything."
Harry clasped his hands and said, "Madam, how can you take me for such a stingy person? How could this one take advantage of Big Sister?"
"See? You don't know Harry at all," Hermione added.
"Ahem, ahem!" Mrs. Granger, embarrassed, said no more.
We'll speak no more of that. The Grangers took Harry and Hermione to buy the items, first visiting Harrods department store, then Chinatown's Gerrard Street.
Once the purchases were complete, Harry returned to Privet Drive to pack his bags. The Dursleys, seeing he was leaving, were all smiles.
When he was finished, he went to the Grangers' house.
Mr. and Mrs. Granger served tea while Harry and Hermione laid out the cinnabar, yellow paper, and brushes on the table.
Harry said, "Big Sister, go and pack your bags. When this one has prepared the Jia Ma, we will set off."
Hermione nodded and left.
Once she was gone, the scarred lad dipped his brush in cinnabar and began to draw on the yellow talisman paper. He inscribed the mystic command, his brush moving like a dragon, outlining a golden, armored general on horseback. In the center, he wrote the secret mark: "Eight Hundred Li."
When the cinnabar was dry, Harry finally stopped, rubbing his sore arm.
Hermione picked up the talisman and studied it, but she couldn't understand a single mark. "Harry, this is your Jia Ma? How can a piece of paper get us from London to Devon?"
Harry smiled. "You will know once you use it, Big Sister."
He finished his tea, grabbed his luggage, and prepared to leave with Hermione.
Mrs. Granger was cooking and called out, "Mr. Potter, you and Hermione should eat breakfast before you go."
Harry clasped his hands. "I am grateful for your kindness, Madam, but one who wears the Jia Ma cannot be tainted by meat. I hope you will understand."
With that, he bid them farewell.
Hermione also said goodbye to her parents, and followed Harry.
They found an empty space. Harry took out four talismans and tied two to each of his legs.
He then gave four to Hermione. "Big Sister, just copy what I have done."
As Hermione was tying them, there was a loud CRACK, and Dobby, in his filthy rag, appeared. Seeing the two of them, he shrieked, "What is Mr. Potter doing?"
"Please, Dobby is not deceiving sir... Hogwarts is very dangerous..."
Harry, knowing this scoundrel was hard to catch, ignored him. He formed a hand seal and recited in classical Chinese:
"I beseech the Gods of Liu Ding and Liu Jia, and the White-Cloud Crane-Feather Traveling God! Let clouds form beneath my feet, faster than the wind! Let me fly in the blue sky! By order of the Nine-Heaven Profound Maiden, go!"
He recited the incantation, brushed his hand against Hermione's legs, and shouted, "Big Sister, do not close your eyes! Follow this one!"
Before Hermione could react, in the blink of an eye, Harry was gone. She looked for him and saw him waiting at a street corner dozens of meters away.
Her heart leaped. She ran, shouting, "Wait for me, Harry—" Before the words left her mouth, she blinked, and she was already beside him.
"Goodness! What is this magic!" Hermione's eyes widened. "Is it an acceleration charm carved into paper?"
"No, this speed is far beyond an acceleration charm!"
Seeing her bend down to look at the talismans, Harry shouted, "Big Sister, do not be distracted!"
"Oh, right."
The two of them pushed off, leaving only a trail of dust, and vanished.
Dobby stared, dumbfounded, then began to tear at his long ears. "No, Dobby failed to stop Mr. Potter again."
"Stupid Dobby! Idiot Dobby—"
"But Dobby cannot let sir be in mortal danger!"
Dobby muttered to himself, snapped his fingers, and vanished, following Harry's trail.
We speak now of Harry and Hermione, racing with the Jia Ma. They heard only the sound of wind rushing past their ears. The houses and trees on either side seemed to topple over in a continuous line. It was as if clouds were urging them forward.
Hedwig was curled up in her cage like a snowball, her head tucked in, talons drawn up, her feathers pressed tight, fearing the wind would tear her to shreds.
In the time it takes to burn half an incense stick, the two were already out of London.
Just then, they heard a high-pitched shrieking. They looked and saw Dobby, snapping his fingers continuously as he teleported, shouting:
"Sir—"
"Don't—"
"Please—"
"Dobby—"
Hermione was shocked. "Harry, are you sure he has a master? He seems rather feral to me."
This Dobby, having interfered time and again, had long since ignited Harry's rage. He roared, "Big Sister, you go on ahead! This one will go and chop this lowly-boned creature to pieces!"
With that, he spun around, drew his saber, and leaped back.
Dobby, seeing him return, tried his old trick, snapping his fingers to teleport.
But Harry's legs were bound with the "800-li" Jia Ma. The moment Dobby vanished, the scarred lad was already beside his new location, swinging his saber.
Harry's feet were as fast as a meteor, his saber like a hawk diving on a rabbit. With a flash of light and a hiss, he cut through the air, aiming for Dobby's head.
With another snap, Dobby appeared a short distance away, shrieking.
"Sir used magic?"
"But you don't have your wand?"
He mumbled to himself. Harry ground his teeth in frustration. He pulled two new Jia Ma from his robes and bound them to his legs. The secret mark on these read: "Five Thousand Li."
And so it was, the 800-li talisman gave chase, but the 5000-li talisman was swapped in. Not even teleportation could match this. What happened next? You must listen to the next chapter.
