Olaedo's eyes widened at his blunt tone. The words cut sharper than she expected. She swallowed hard, forcing down the sting of embarrassment.
"I'm sorry," she said quietly. "I'll do better next time."
"Good," Chibuzor replied, his tone clipped and cold. "Because if you don't, this contract, and all the benefits you're getting, will end."
He didn't wait for her response. Without another glance, he turned and walked toward the adjoining bathroom, the door closing behind him with a soft click.
For a long moment, Olaedo just stood there, frozen. The earlier warmth of his embrace now felt like a cruel contrast to his harsh words.
Her embarrassment twisted into self disgust. I almost jeopardized my only chance to save my company.
She clenched her fists. I need to get this right. No more mistakes.
Her resolve hardened, cooling into steel.
