Arthur's golden eyes flew open, his breath ragged, cold sweat drenching his form.
He knew he had almost died, he had only survived by luck, or something different entirely.
His eyes darted around, the corpse of the disgusting creature lay on the ground, its head obliterated from existence. Then he remembered what the spell had said, his eyes widened even further. His pupils shrank, almost resembling dots.
He summoned and read through his runes.
And sure enough, he had another relic to claim.
But before he could, his legs buckled, and he fell to the ground in an undignified manner, all of his memories vanishing except the black armor.
Arthur woke up to beeps, his eyes fluttered open, immediately scanning his surroundings.
There was a guard stationed near the door, no doubt an awakened one. Arthur barely managed to get up from the bed when Saint Cor entered.
Arthur immediately stood up, his cloak manifesting around the armor.
"I see you have recovered." Was the Saint's simple conversation starter.
"I have" Arthur replied in a monotone.
The Cor let out a chuckle.
"You did great back there"
Arthur nodded at the praise, but remained silent.
He knew what came next after all.
"But it was foolish, I saw the recordings, you survived by pure luck, I'm not even sure how you killed the thing".
Arthur sighed, the Saint telling him what he already knew.
"It was a calculated risk" was Arthur's smooth reply.
The Saint let out a chuckle once again, telling him that he had two weeks off, and that Arthur wouldn't be called upon if there wasn't an emergency.
And with that, Arthur vanished, two seconds later, he was already at his own home.
He was suddenly glad that he had turned off the oven before leaving.
Then Arthur turned his attention to the relic.
[Universal law of space:Broken,[claim relic].
"Claim"
Ans with that, destruction rose around him, confused and slightly panicked, Arthur's eyes flicked around, just in case of any danger. Then a voice rang out.
"We meet again, lava-burning Barbie",
Arthur's jaw slackened; he knew that voice from his second nightmare.
"Regis?"
Arthur looked around, then continued.
"Maybe less dramatic?"
A rough laugh rang out, then the aetherial violet flames condensed into a shape.
And sure enough, it was Regis, in all his self-proclaimed glory.
"Wait, you remember me?!"
The wolf-sentient weapon let out another bark of laughter.
Then he calmed down, responding.
"Of course I do, I watched how you followed the other Arthur".
Arthur's own eyes widened, "But the loop?"
Another laugh rang out, "The loop was by Arthur himself, using static void."
Arthur let out a gasp.
"I have that now as well!"
At that, there was another laugh," Of course you do, silly, you are basically receiving his abilities".
And then a lot of things clicked for Arthur.
The loops, the fights, the lessons.
He was learning them, just as Grey had learned.
And he had gotten better, his godstep, far more refined, his mentality had evolved. He had learned, just as Grey had, that winning was more important.
He had learned ruthlessness, kindness, and techniques.
He was practically becoming a copy of the man who was able to kill Gods.
A week later, Arthur sat in his home, dinner already cooking. Regis was bathing in the infernos of destruction in his soul sea. And life had gotten better.
Regis was an invaluable asset; he had checked his runes as well, but he did not appear in any place. Because the spell did not have any connection to him, and any attempt to reach him, was weak enough for Regis to resist.
And so life has gotten better, sure, he could have gone without the whole space situation. But he came out stronger from it, so it was a win. Arthur also thankfully didn't get called upon to any emergency. This gave him time to go practice with Regis in his soul sea.
Regis was a chaotic and dangerous fighter; his breath released bursts of destruction, his claws and teeth augmented by it. The real battle shifter was when Arthur had enough Aether saved up, and while wearing Djinn armor, he could fuse any weapon with Regis, making any attack unblockable, unless it was a strong Transcendent item, at least that was Arthur's Ken hypothesis, since he didn't have anything to test it against.
Then an ad ran on the TV, about women's bikinis...
Regis manifested in an instant, his tongue moving around, he was almost vibrating in place.
"Yo Arthur!" He turned to Regis already knowing what he would say.
"We should definitely take some time to relax at a beach, don't you think so?" And so Arthur regretted every nice thing he said about Regis.
