"Of course," I laughed, stepping back to let Kayne through the doorway.
Seeing him healthy and strong brought relief flooding through me. My initial hatred for Maia burned white-hot when she captured him for those twisted experiments. But the question that gnawed at me was why Kayne let it happen. He possessed the strength of an alpha werewolf. One howl from him and our entire pack would have torn through her facility. When we dragged Maia back as our prisoner and locked her in the dungeons, he was the one demanding her release. The reason remained his secret, and it drove me crazy.
Kayne settled into the living room with the children and Theodore. Within minutes, their laughter echoed throughout the manor. The sound wrapped around my heart, squeezing tight with emotion. I found myself preparing snacks for everyone, just to stay close to that beautiful noise.
