Only days remained until my wedding ceremony. The reality still felt like a dream that might vanish at any moment. I could hardly process that Theodore had made such a public declaration, announcing our union with such confidence and authority. The memory of his strong arms encircling my waist as he held me close in front of everyone still sent warmth flooding through my cheeks. That bold statement of ownership had somehow made me feel more protected than I had ever felt before. Even if my time was limited, I would spend whatever days I had in complete happiness.
I carefully placed the engagement ring back into its cloth bag, making a mental note to find a proper velvet box for it. Simply handing it over wrapped in fabric would not do justice to such an important moment.
