HARPER
It was Christmas Eve, and I had everything planned out for the day.
Well, just two events I thought would be meaningful, since it was one of those holidays I'd never truly experienced before. One was having a family gathering, and the second was going to church.
When I said family gathering, I meant just me, Dominic, and the kids. I'd invited Clara to be a part of it, but she declined, saying she had something to do. William had also turned down Dominic's invitation.
I was suspicious about the two of them. But I had no evidence whatsoever to back up the claim forming in my head.
"Hey."
I turned, eyes landing on Dominic. He was standing behind me, fully dressed in a tailored black suit.
I rinsed my hands, wiped them on my apron, then stood on tiptoe to adjust the tie around his neck.
"Do you have to work today?" I asked, my brows creased. For the past week, he'd been overly dedicated to a mysterious job.
