He had spent over a million on her… and yet she had gone off to serve somewhere else when he clearly had other intentions for her. Other tasks. Slowly, the pieces began to settle into place, and Evangeline frowned as the realization formed. Perhaps that was why he was upset.
With that conclusion in mind, her expression softened. She turned back to Hades with a small, tentative smile, nervous but earnest in her desire to correct herself. "I'll keep that in mind… I'm sorry."
Faintly, she thought she heard someone let out a breath of relief behind her.
"You don't need to apologize," Hades said gently. When he smiled, the chill in his gaze melted away, and she could tell at once that the issue had been resolved. "Now you need to come down from there," he added, a slight frown appearing as his eyes dropped to her bare legs swinging idly. "Or I may be forced to return to my unpleasant habit of plucking out people's eyes."
