Chapter 137: Despising You
Zack wasn't the type of man to start breaking things when he was angry. He became careful.
That was how people had always misunderstood him. They looked for shouting or violence or shaking hands. Zack Hale did none of that. His anger lived in stillness. In planning. In the slow tightening of control.
He was standing alone in his private office when Elias finished speaking on the broadcast.
The screen had already gone dark but Zack had not moved. He stood with his hands behind his back, his posture straight, eyes looked cold.
Elias had crossed a line…oh yes.
Not by attacking him openly. Elias was too polished for that and too clean. He had done something worse.
He had implied blame without naming it. He had distanced himself. He had spoken of betrayal and moral duty and rebuilding trust. He had spoken like a man preparing to sacrifice someone else to save himself.
Zack smiled weakly.
So this was how it ended.
