Chapter 62 - Chapter 62

"Huh—?"

Pressing his chin thoughtfully, Gojo glanced at the corner of the alley where Denji had been lying, a faint smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.

"Denji-kun… I hope you're still alive—and kicking—next time I see you."

The gaze was playful, yet there was weight behind the words.

Denji, still coughing up blood, could barely respond.

"That… my kidneys and… testicles…" he croaked.

Gojo rolled his eyes, clearly exasperated.

"Keep them. Honestly… why would a healthy and normal person like me want broken internal organs as a gift? Think about it, kid. You're already a fool, don't make it worse."

He waved his hand casually—

"Goodbye."

And just like that, Gojo teleported away, leaving only the dumbfounded Denji behind, holding Pochita tightly

What a good guy… didn't even take my kidneys and testicles…

.....

Back at home,

Gojo stepped inside the house, quickly swapping his shoes for slippers with a soft thud.

"I'm back."

Silence—

The living room was quiet.

No sign of Umaru, of course—she was likely lost in a game in her room, as usual.

Flopping onto the soft sofa,

Gojo took out his phone, and started sending a quick message to Shizuka—a reassurance that he was safe.

Then, he grabbed some snacks and a bottle of soda from the fridge and sank into a comfortable, leisurely rhythm in front of the TV.

.....

Few years had passed since demons born of human fear first began reappearing in the world.

Though they were rare, they returned to hell after being destroyed by exorcists or Onmyoji, thanks to specialized government forces—secret task units trained specifically to hunt these rogue demons.

Even as the number of demons gradually increased across the globe, human society remained largely untouched. The three main forces—Onmyoji, exorcists, and the special public security units—kept the balance.

.....

"Onii-chan!"

A soft voice called from the doorway.

Gojo glanced up, still munching on potato chips.

"What is it, little Umaru?"

Dressed in pink hamster pajamas, Umaru waddled into the living room, dragging herself into Gojo's arms. Her small hands fished a few chips from the bag, and quickly shove them into her mouth while keeping a few for her stinky brother.

"Onii-chan… are you okay?" she asked softly, concern threading her words.

Gojo smiled, ruffling his sister's hair.

"I'm fine. Don't worry. After all… I'm the strongest."

Umaru blinked, satisfied for now, burrowing against his chest like a tiny, contented animal.

.....

Yawning, Gojo stretched lazily, still clad in his usual attire as he was riding his electric scooter, with Umaru in the back seat.

He hadn't slept last night—messaging Subaru, monitoring demon reports, and keeping tabs on the chaos in the city.

He pressed a finger to his temple and activated the Reversal Technique, clearing his mind instantly.

"Oh… that's much better," he murmured.

But before he could fully relax, a soft, unfamiliar voice called from the side.

"Gojo-sensei…"

"Huh?"

Gojo's head snapped in the direction of the voice. Instinctively, he muttered under his breath, "Bitch Akane?"

Seated in the passenger seat of a small car, Akane Miyakawa smiled, though her grin faltered slightly when she saw Gojo.

The driver, a sturdy man in his thirties, seemed uneasy under Akane's calm demeanor.

"Ha… what did Gojo-sensei just say?" she asked, cheeks tinged pink with embarrassment.

Gojo ignored her, who pouted slightly at his reaction.

His hand twisted subtly, as if preparing to vanish, and his grin hinted at mischief, as he continue riding his scooty without responding.

Inside the car, the man glanced at Akane with a furrowed brow. "Akane… who is that guy?"

"It's fine, Nobuyuki. Just a colleague," she replied gently, though her eyes betrayed a flicker of annoyance.

Her gaze briefly narrowed, flashing a trace of disdain.

If it weren't for his money, I'd treat him like a dog… she mused silently.

Adjusting her hand discreetly, she looked out the window.

"… Gojo-sensei… you can't escape my reach," she whispered, eyes glinting with determination.

...

Later, Gojo parked the small electric scooter under a massive tree, near the famous Seafood Restaurant.

Umaru, playful as ever, clambered off beside him.

Gojo smirked. "Alright… don't move, this is a robbery. Gonna take your money."

"Robber? But… I didn't bring any money!" Umaru protested, cheeks puffed in mock indignation.

"Then I'll take the eyes!" Gojo teased, blindfolding her eyes with one hand.

Umaru squealed. "No! No! This is for my onii-chan!"

Her face flushed scarlet, hands flailing as she tried to grab the playful trickster. Gojo laughed heartily, releasing her eyes and grinning down at her.

"Ahahaha…Umaru, you're too cute," he said, picking her up slightly and twirling her in his arms.

Umaru shrieked, spinning like a whirlwind, the little hamster pajamas flapping. "Ahhhh! Stop bulling me!"

Gojo crossed his arms, leaning back against the tree.

"Hah… bullying Umaru never gets old."

"Just die, stinky brother! How can you bully your kawai sister like that" Umaru shouted, stomping her tiny legs at the poor ground.

Gojo chuckled, lightly touching her hair. "Relax, little one. You know you enjoy spending time with your Handsome brother"

In this calm, familial moment, life felt almost… ordinary. Almost.

Because tomorrow, Gojo knew, another demon would appear. Another challenge would test his strength. And as always, he'd face it with the same casual grin, keeping his sister, friends, and the world just a little safer.
