Chapter 10 - Stockpiling sanity

But now, she kindly gave her a pendant.

It seems that human nature is inherently complex.

When wealthy, one can indeed "benefit the world when successful"

However, when material resources are scarce in the apocalypse, nature simply chooses to "look out for oneself"

Annan returned to the city and found a well-reputed hotpot restaurant.

Rainy days and hot pot are the perfect match.

She dipped the lamb slices into the broth while checking her list of stockpiled items.

Most items were checked off, with only one "mental nourishment" left to finish.

So, after dinner, she immediately went to the computer mall. Based on yesterday's plan, she purchased a few tablets, mobile phones, memory cards, hard drives, headphones and so on.

By evening, she could continue downloading the movies and files she hadn't finished yesterday.

After storing everything in her space, Annan hesitated for a moment before entering a pet shop.

Humans are social animals. Being isolated from society and staying alone for a long time can lead to depression.

Especially in the stressful apocalypse, Annan thought, she needed a companion to keep herself sane.

Her companions in her previous life were Bai Wenbin and Qian Ying'er.

As it turned out, only dogs can remain consistently loyal, making them harder to trust than humans.

She had plenty of supplies in her space, so Annan decided to buy a companion dog to stay with her in the dark days of the apocalypse.

As soon as she stepped into the pet shop, all the puppies excitedly rushed over, their "woofs" filling the air.

Annan frowned: Were all dogs this loud? This was too conspicuous. If people found out, they could be targeted as potential food.

Suddenly, she was drawn to a milky white little ball.

Behind the excited bunch, there was one dog lying comfortably on a cushion, with its head lazily buried under its paws. Annan went over to pick it up, only to get a good look at its real face.

Uh... why was this dog so... ugly? It looked just like a little pig.

As if hearing her thoughts, the dog huffed discontentedly a couple of times.

Annan turned to the shop assistant: "Does this dog not bark?"

The assistant smiled, "It's a French Bulldog, they hardly ever bark. This little lass is only half a year old and a bit lazy, she doesn't like to move much."

Being lazy is good. With the apocalypse, it is inconvenient to take dogs for walks outside, the house is enough for this little one to run around.

Moreover, it doesn't bark aimlessly, so small, just put it in the bag and go.

Annan looks at its cute and funny face, the more she sees, the more she likes it.

This is the one.

She then bought a lot of dog food and snacks, as well as dog houses, urine pads, dog clothes, small toys, and so on.

Before leaving, she looked at the puppies, thought for a moment, and then said to the store clerk:"My friend from the meteorological station said that there would be heavy rain tomorrow, and there is a risk of flooding into the house. It would be best if you prepare in advance."

Having said that, she turned around and left.

After the apocalypse, even humans find it hard to survive, let alone these little ones.

She's not a savior and can barely take care of herself. The least she could do was to give a warning.

After leaving the pet shop, Annan went to the wholesaler to haul two more large carts of pet supplies.

When checking out, her eyes swept over a pile of cat litter, and an idea suddenly flashed.

If water supply stops after the apocalypse, the toilets will unreusable.

Even though there are garbage bags in the space, cat litter it's much cleaner and convenient.

So she bought a cart of cat sand.

After buying cat sand, the borrowed 3 million is almost exhausted, with only the last 3,000 left.

Annan let out a long sigh of relief.

Finally, in this life, she hasn't let the money become waste paper again.

She patted the dog sitting next to her on the co-driver's seat, in high spirits: "Let's go, big sis is taking you out for a spin."

The dog cooperatively responded with a couple of snuffles.

In the drizzling rain, An Nan drove the car while unfolding a paper map for reference.

In a few days, mobile navigation wouldn't be available. If they wished to go out, they would have to rely on the map for directions.

An Nan marked a few important landmarks and malls on the map.

She then compared them with their real-life counterparts, seriously noting the appearance of these buildings' upper halves (the lower parts would be submerged in floodwaters).

Having driven around a bit, she returned the rented pickup truck just before the rental company closed for the day and switched to renting a motorhome.

Although there was already a Wuling Hongguang car in the space, a motorhome was deemed necessary for a more comfortable travel experience.

The motorhome's interior and functional design was far superior to the Wuling 'Miracle' Car.

The rental period was two days.

The deposit was covered with the prior truck's deposit, followed by an additional 3000 yuan of rental fees.

The vehicle wouldn't have to be returned, by the time of the return date, a heavy rain would flood the city.

If she didn't take the vehicle, it would be discarded in the flood anyway. This benefit should be seized.

An Nan unhesitatingly spent the remaining money in her card without feeling guilty.

With the addition of the motorhome into her space, the last bit of room in her storage was now filled.

Four-million yuan didn't seem like much, but when converted into these supplies, it was rather substantial.

With an umbrella in one hand and the dog in her arms, An Nan walked back home contently.

Just as she reached the entrance of her apartment building, An Nan saw Bai Wenbin standing at the front door.

Inside, An Nan was cursing at her bad luck.

"Nan Nan!" Bai Wenbin looked at the dog in An Nan's arms, "You bought a little dog?"
