Chapter 3 - A feast before the famine

This was not just a simple food alley, it was the dream she had daydreamed about for four years in the post-apocalyptic era!

An Nan picked a restaurant with the most complete range of dishes and walked inside.

She ordered eight dishes and a soup: Peking duck, Sichuan Mapo tofu, Northeastern style deep fried pork, West Lake vinegar fish, Dongpo pork, baby bok choy with garlic, spicy chicken, dry-fried green beans, and pork rib soup with lotus root and yam.

The waitress was taken aback as she took down the order, "Madam, are you ordering all these dishes for yourself?"

Annán looked composed, "I'm waiting for my friends, they haven't arrived yet. Please serve the dishes first."

The food was served quickly, a well-balanced variety of meat and vegetables, salty and sweet flavors, and generous portions.

Half an hour later, Annán, full and satisfied, put down her chopsticks.

Only heaven knew how much she had missed these delicious dishes during the apocalypse!

Let alone such a feast of well-prepared food; she had to struggle over a piece of stale bread, even if it meant fighting until she was beaten bloody.

For a long time, she had to resort to eating dirt.

This was not an internet joke about being "so poor she had to eat dirt", but literally eating dirt from the ground.

Swallowing the dry soil made constipation a constant issue and made her feel uncomfortable.

Many people were even choked to death.

But if she hadn't eaten the dirt, she would have died even faster from hunger.

Annán knew the preciousness of food more than anyone else. She waived her hand and called the waitress over.

"My friends are not coming, please pack the leftovers for me."

Carrying the takeout boxes, she returned to the car and quickly stashed them in her space when no one was watching.

Although she was tempted to gather more snacks, the local farmers market closed early, so she decided to rush back to buy some groceries first and stop by here again in the evening.

She returned to the wholesale market, this time heading straight to the meat and egg section.

She ordered 8,000 chicken eggs, 4,000 each of duck and goose eggs, and 3,000 quail eggs.

She bought 500 pounds of pork, 300 pounds each of beef and mutton, 500 chickens, and 500 ducks, along with 300 large geese. All were pre-processed.

In addition to this, she also purchased a large amount of chicken feet, wings, duck tongues, necks, and intestines, ready to be used for making marinated food later.

Before the apocalypse, she loved nothing more than to snack on spicy duck products while watching dramas.

After being reborn, not only did she want to eat her fill, but also to live a blissful life.

Next, she headed to the seafood section.

She bought 1,000 various types of fish, 500 pounds of various shrimps, 300 pounds of various shellfish such as razor clams, clams, oysters, and a variety of soft-bodied squid and octopus.

After taking care of the proteins, she then headed to the fruits and vegetables section.

She got 2000 pounds of various green vegetables like spinach, chives, lettuce, celery, and so on, and 1000 pounds of various gourds like cucumber, winter melon, and pumpkin.

800 pounds of cabbage for detoxification, and 1500 pounds of tomatoes, eggplant, bean sprouts, radishes, and beans. 800 pounds of various mushrooms including shiitake, golden needle, wood ear, and white fungus. 800 pounds each of green onion, ginger, and garlic.

In the fruit section, she picked only a few that she preferred.

Apples, pears, strawberries, blueberries, bananas, oranges, lemons, peaches, grapes, lychees, durians, watermelons,

cantaloupes, and more, adding up to a total of 6000 jin were purchased.

The market has a wide variety, even though some are off-season fruits.

However, it's still nice to have them around, and if you don't buy them now, you won't be able to taste them in the future.

Throughout the afternoon, Annan was busy buying food, driving it away, and storing it in the space, in a repeating cycle.

After all the food was purchased, she rushed to the city's largest clothing department wholesale market.

There was no need to buy a lot of clothes, as the wardrobes at home were already quite full. She only needed to buy some new ones to replace the old each year.

During the end of the world, fashion style isn't what matters; convenience and comfort come first.

She bought 300 pieces each of spring, summer, and autumn clothes, including trousers, skirts, and other categories.

There were 300 pairs of sandals, slippers, sneakers, leather shoes, and other types of footwear.

The main purchase was for winter thermal clothes because when the extreme cold comes, thick clothes are as important as the flesh on your bones.

It is summer now, so off-season winter clothes are very cheap, many are half-priced.

Annan stocked up on down jackets, woolen sweaters, thick cotton pants, hats, scarves, cotton gloves, and more. She also arranged for cotton shoes, snow boots, thick socks, and the likes.

Finally, she shopped for basic daily necessities.

She bought a bit more of items like toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, shower gel, laundry detergent, and other cleaning products.

She got 50 sets each of thick quilts, pillows, bed sheets, pillowcases, and other bedding supplies.

There were pots, pans, trash bags, scissors, lighters, disposable lunch boxes and all sorts of odds and ends.

Annan wandered around everywhere, purchasing things in large quantities wherever he went.

Most importantly, he picked up a truck full of hygiene products such as toilet paper and sanitary pads.

Thinking about the rampant insects during the hot season, Annan went to buy some

insecticides, mosquito coils, floral water, and realgar powder.

He also didn't forget the hand warmers, hot water bags, and other such items for extreme cold temperatures.

Annan bought everything he could think of, but still felt it wasn't enough. After all, it's hard to be fully prepared for the next few decades with just a few days to plan.

By now, the market was about to close, so Annan reluctantly had to stop his shopping spree.

He transported all the items in batches to a deserted suburb and stored them into his space.

After a day of running around, Annan was extremely tired. He finally had a moment to rest, sitting in the car and closing his eyes to rejuvenate.

"Buzz buzz-"

The mobile phone in his pocket suddenly vibrated.

Annan took out his phone, opened WeChat and looked at it, involuntarily raising his brows.
