Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

I heard a beeping sound in the background and wondered where I was. The last thing I remember was fighting a brown she-wolf, getting hurt and knocked out. I opened my eyes to a bright lit room. I looked around and noticed a candidate lying beside me and a monitor checking her heart rate beside her, that must have been the beep I heard. To my other side, I noticed a figure with red hair resting her head on my bed sound asleep. My hands have totally healed from the fight. 'Hey, are you okay?' I called to my wolf 'I am fine,' she said in a sleepy voice. I am so glad I am alive. I was quite lucky, I don't know how long that luck will hold out. I need to train hard. I was thinking of asking Rein to teach me and confessing everything to my new friends when I was interrupted by a voice. 'You are awake' Rein said 'Yes I am. What happened?' I said, looking at her. 'My wolf had dealt with the other she-wolf coming after us and left her unconscious when we noticed that you were about to be ended by the other she-wolf. My wolf ran as fast as she could and attacked the other she-wolf; we were about to fight when the bell rang to signify the trial ended, the she-wolf left after that. When I checked on you, you were knocked out. I stayed with you till medical help came'. 'How are you feeling, and how is your hand?' she asked 'I feel all healed up. Rein, I might need your help. I don't really know much about combat. Can you help? 'I guessed as much, were you not trained at all.' She asked, looking at me skeptically. 'You were lucky that the she-wolves we fought with were novices in combat. My fight would have been longer and tougher, and yours might have ended quickly with you dead. I will teach you as much as I can every morning from now on' 'Rein, I need to tell you and Amara something' 'Okay…..' 'Elena oh my gosh, how are you feeling' Amara interrupted 'I am okay' 'Gosh you gave me a scare. When I heard you were in the infirmary, I ran as fast as I could. I didn't see both of you at the exit of the trial, and I got really worried' she said, giving Rein a side hug. 'Elena and I were almost at the exit when we were attacked.' 'I am glad you are both fine. I was almost attacked as well, but trust my maneuvering skills.' 'Elena said she has something to tell us' Rein said 'Can we talk when we get to our room?' I asked 'Sure' they both replied. A nurse with an hourglass shape and almond looking green eyes came to my bed to check on me. 'Miss Elena, how are you feeling' she said while checking my hand and checking my eyes 'Better' I said 'Your hand healed properly and no more concussion, I believe you are free to go' she said 'Oh that's great.' Rein said, and I smiled at her. 'Thank you' I told the gorgeous nurse. While the nurse was leaving and I was about to get up from my bed, I heard a voice beside me 'Hey I know you, you saved my life' the voice said. I looked at her and wondered when I did that. 'I was the injured she-wolf on the path whose life you saved with those leaves. Thank you, nobody else would have done that. I am alive because of you.' She said, 'My name is Ariel' I was glad to see her alive and well. ' I am glad you are okay, I guess I will be seeing you at the second trial' 'No I will not be continuing the trial, I forfeited. I guess seeing my life flash before my eyes really puts things in perspective for me. I have concluded that I am not interested in being the Luna queen, I would rather lead a quiet life.' She said 'I am happy for you, do you. I have been discharged, and I hope for a speedy recovery for you' I said 'Thank you, I will be cheering for you' Ariel said with a smile. I said my goodbyes, smiled at Amara and Rein, and followed them out of the infirmary, getting ready to tell them everything. While on our way to the room, I noticed people in groups having a discussion, I noticed they were agitated, and because we had to pass the path that led to the gate, we saw vehicles leaving in twos and threes, I was wondering what was going on when Amara chipped in 'Guys, so I heard that one of the factions, Beta Blake's faction was attacked by a grotesque creature never seen before during the trial and some people were killed including his first son who was part of the enforcers. The commotion you are seeing right now are some faction enforcers and Beta reps leaving to support their Beta, a note was found in the hand of the creature warning all factions they are next if they don't join the cause.' 'What!' Rein exclaimed 'What's the cause?' I asked 'I have no idea' 'What's the Alpha King and council doing about this?' Rein asked 'So far I heard he is pushing for the end of the trials so everyone can go defend their factions, but the council is adamant on continuing the trials trying to ensure him his Betas can protect their factions' Amara said 'Where are you getting all this info?' I asked 'You just need to be in the right group at the right time to hear the gist' she said 'I might need to leave' Rein said 'Leave? What for?' Amara asked. 'I can't leave my sister alone at this time' I was wondering what Rein was talking about. 'Rein your sister can handle herself, and she has enforcers. She is tougher than you are, so there is nothing to worry about. She is going to be okay' Amara said Rein didn't look convinced and excused herself, walking fast and moving ahead of us to the building that housed our room. 'What's up?' I asked Amara 'Her sister is the Beta of her faction, Beta Thompson.' 'oh…' I said softly, I would be worried too if my sister is the Beta of a faction at this time, apart from the missing werewolves, the attack has just made everything worse, seems there is a lot on their plate right now and something is definitely happening in Pranora. I hope my faction is safe for Amilia's sake. Amara and I got to the entrance of the building where our room was and saw Rein speaking with the lady at the desk, she was handed a phone. I walked up to her to ask for the phone whenever she was done, and she assured me she would give me, then she left to make a call. I hope she will be okay, I thought. On entering the room, I noticed that our two other roommates were not yet in, I want to remain positive; not thinking of them dead or seriously injured in the infirmary. I sat down on my bed and turned to Amara. 'Are you not worried about anyone back home?' I asked 'Of course I am, but what will worrying achieve. I trust in our Beta and Enforcers and my dad, who is an enforcer. They are strong enough to protect the faction, and it's just my dad and I; my mum passed away when I was little, and my dad never remarried. I don't have many friends in the faction either' 'Oh I am so sorry' 'Nah it's okay, I miss her, but I am better at dealing with it now' Rein walked into the room while on the phone, I noticed she was typing quite fast. She walked towards my bed while typing. 'Did you speak with her?' Amara asked. Rein raised her right hand and asked for a minute before she could reply her. When she was done, she handed the phone over to me. While Amara and Rein were discussing, I excused myself to make a call to Amilia since I know her number offhand. 'Hey babe' 'Hello, who is this please' 'It's Elena' 'Elena oh my god, your voice sounds so different on the phone. How did you get a phone?' 'I am using a roommate's phone' 'I heard the first trial is over, and I am so glad you survived. Are you okay?' 'Yes I am,' I didn't want to talk about the trial and decided to change the topic. 'Is the faction safe?' Heard there was an attack on one of the factions, and all factions have been warned' 'Everything is fine here. Beta Ethan has tightened the security a bit, I believe we will be fine' 'Awesome, I just wanted to check on you' We caught up a little, I told her about the amazing friends I am making, and we said our goodbyes. I took the phone back to the lady at the desk, went back to the room, and caught Amara and Rein in a tight hug. Amara saw me and told me to join them. The three of us hugged each other, and it really helped me relieve the stress I went through in the trial. 'I needed that' Rein said 'See there is something about hugs that just relieves you, and we are werewolves we love physical contact' Amara said. Rein and I looked at each other and chuckled, Amara can be dramatic sometimes. A voice came through the speaker and made an announcement. 'Every she-wolf that made it to the exit in the trial today will have a one on one dinner with the Alpha King by nightfall. Put on your best outfit.' 'A faction was attacked, and they are planning a dinner party, typical.' I mused 'I guess the games must continue' Rein said 'I don't know what to wear, you've got to help me guys' Amara said. Amara getting to the exit means she gets to meet the Alpha King. We all went through her outfit, which was a lot. We eventually settled for one that looked great on her. She got ready for her date with the Alpha King. When it was time for the dinner date, she said her goodbyes and asked we wish her luck. If the Alpha King had eyes, she wouldn't need any luck because she looked absolutely gorgeous. It was when the door closed after Amara left that I remembered I had forgotten to tell them about my secrets.
