Chapter 67 - CHAPTER 67

c67: VS Beerus

On the big yacht, beneath a sky dusted with late afternoon sun, the banquet had loosened Beerus and Whis's restraint. After sampling Earth's delicacies from bulgogi to pudding the two devoured with indulgent curiosity until the platters ran low.

"All right, we've finished the delicious food. Now that my appetite is sated, it's time to be serious. Lin Hao, tell me where the Super Saiyan God is," Beerus said, lounging forward as he addressed Lin Hao directly.

"Super Saiyan God?" Lin Hao echoed.

"Huh? You don't know?" someone murmured.

"Don't you know who or what that is? The so-called Super Saiyan God?" Beerus prodded.

Lin Hao's lips curled in a knowing, faint smile. He was well acquainted with the original legend; how could he not understand the concept of Super Saiyan God? It was, in essence, a transient form: a Saiyan draped in divine power but not truly a god an ascension produced by other Saiyans' combined ki.

Beerus's catlike eyes flicked over Lin Hao's composed face, and something like intrigue stirred within him. There was a familiarity in the aura-line that he couldn't place. Why hadn't he perceived that before?

His gaze sharpened. The strange thing was that Lin Hao seemed to conceal his true ki. Beerus frowned; mortals usually radiated energy plainly. Could this human be masking his presence?

What Beerus didn't know was that Lin Hao had learned to suppress his aura. Unless an opponent's strength exceeded his by at least two tiers, Lin Hao's ki remained effectively invisible even to deities. This skill had been honed from past conflicts and from study of ancient concealment techniques.

A chill of premonition pricked Beerus's insides. He felt certain now that something unexpected awaited him, and that the source of that unknown threat was closely tied to this unassuming Saiyan before him.

"Boy, if you know anything, speak up! Don't waste my time," Beerus urged, impatience sharpening his tone. He had long sought a worthy challenge; to chance upon one on this small blue planet both excited and vexed him.

Lin Hao regarded Beerus calmly. "The Super Saiyan God isn't an immortal lineage. It's a temporary form created by Saiyans. Five righteous Saiyans must channel their ki into a chosen Saiyan simultaneously; that one then becomes a Super Saiyan God."

Beerus blinked, incredulous. The revelation that the Super Saiyan God was a ritualistic, manufactured power not an everlasting deity left him momentarily stunned. That explained why prophecies and legends were so muddled.

"Really? There's no permanent Super Saiyan God? That's disappointing. Well then, Whis, let's return. I've had my fill, and I'm feeling rather sleepy," Beerus said, rising with the languid manner of one accustomed to command and naps.

"As you wish, Lord Beerus," Whis replied, though his gaze remained fixed on Lin Hao with quiet intensity. Whis's curiosity was never easily sated.

Sensing Whis's silent insistence, Lin Hao stepped forward before Beerus could withdraw. "I've heard that your strength is formidable. If you have time, would you care for a demonstration?"

"Oh? A mortal challenging a god how bold," Beerus purred, amusement and menace in his voice. "Show me your power. Entertain me, or I may be forced to destroy you."

Beerus's eyes narrowed, the threat hanging heavy in the air.

"Destroy?" Lin Hao's jaw tightened, his confidence unshaken; around them, murmurs rose as everyone watched, breath held for the inevitable clash, and silence fell swiftly.

Hearing the word "destroy," Lin Hao only smiled faintly. If Beerus truly surpassed him in power, perhaps there would be some fear but even so, Lin Hao would make the God of Destruction understand why Saiyans were feared across the stars, and why the flowers bloom crimson after battle.

"Come on then! But this isn't a place for fighting!"

Lin Hao's aura flared as his body lifted effortlessly into the sky, a streak of golden light tracing behind him.

Beerus narrowed his golden eyes and smirked. "Interesting…" He rose from the yacht without moving a limb, his divine energy bending the air itself as he ascended. Within seconds, both stood suspended high above the ocean, eyes locked, power swelling silently between them.

Below, the yacht trembled.

"Huh? What's going on with Dad and Lord Beerus?" Lin Yi asked, looking up in awe at the two figures hovering in the air.

"It looks like a duel," Android 18 said calmly, folding her arms. "A little sparring match after dinner, perhaps. Let's watch, it might be interesting."

"Is that so? But why would Dad want to fight him?"

"I don't know," she replied, her tone measured. "Maybe your father has his reasons. He always does."

Up above, the sky darkened slightly as pressure waves rippled outward.

"BOOM—BOOM!"

The air itself cracked. Each pulse of their energy sent shockwaves through the atmosphere, ruffling the sea below.

Watching from below, Son Goku's expression burned with excitement. "Incredible… even from here, I can feel their ki clashing! It's on a completely different level." His fists tightened unconsciously. "I've trained to master Super Saiyan 4 full power for years, but Lin Hao… he's beyond that. I need to see how far he's really gone."

The ocean churned violently. Each time Lin Hao and Beerus released even a fraction of power, the yacht tilted under the shockwaves. If not for Piccolo, Gohan, and Krillin erecting quick energy barriers, Bulma and the other guests would have been blown clean off into the sea.

In the sky, Lin Hao's battle spirit surged. This was what he'd been waiting for a clash not just of fists, but of divine power. His Saiyan blood boiled in anticipation.

The two combatants stared each other down, the sheer density of their energy distorting the air. Even the distant Z-Fighters could feel it pressing on their chests.

Back at Capsule Corp, in the 300x gravity chamber, Vegeta suddenly halted mid-training.

"Tch…! This ki… Lin Hao's? Impossible! It's monstrous!" His brows furrowed. "Who is he fighting to unleash such overwhelming pressure?"

He clenched his fists, pride igniting in his chest. "No way am I missing this!"

Vegeta shut off the gravity controls, threw on his armor, and exploded through the roof in a burst of blue flame, rocketing toward the source of the power.

High above the sea, the tension thickened. Beerus tilted his head slightly, curiosity glittering in his eyes. "You're a Saiyan, aren't you? You mortals usually transform before challenging me. Don't you have that little trick of turning golden? Or has your confidence replaced your common sense?"

"No need to rush," Lin Hao said with a calm grin. "I'll transform when it's worth it. For now, let's enjoy the warm-up."

Beerus's ears twitched. "Hmph. You talk big for a mortal."

Though Lin Hao was in his base state, his power level already exceeded fifty trillion his ki compressed, invisible, godlike in density. Even Beerus could sense that this was no ordinary opponent.

"Since you insist," Beerus said, lifting one clawed hand casually. "I'll be generous. You may strike first. I wouldn't want anyone accusing me of bullying a mortal."

He gestured lazily, his tail swaying, and beckoned with a finger. "Come on then, show me what you can do."

The air between them warped, space itself trembling under the weight of two powers on the brink of collision.
