Chapter 1 - Chapter 0: The fallen crown

A beautiful night embedded the palace with the night sky adorning the wedding. The lights from the main venue shone vividly as the guests celebrated the newly wedded couple, everything seemed perfect. However, one lone woman could barely contain herself as the noisy venue fell out of earshot. A hic followed by a stumble, Vienna's soft sobs could only be heard by the surrounding wildlife as she trailed down the fleeting forest path. Eventually reaching a lone gazebo, the calls of it entrancing her as sympathy coaxed her throat. It seemed to be isolated from everything, a small opening out of the alluring garden leading to a well-kept pond, the lilies and frogs enraptured by each other as they danced alongside a frizzly breeze. Vienna sat down on the gazebo's pearly white bench, the flowers embellishing the railings began twirling around her shoulders and neck as they whispered words of comfort to her never-ending weeps.

The moon kissed the floor of the gazebo, leaving a soft glisten on the marble surface.

"Beautiful here, isn't it?" A familiar voice entered Vienna's world of sorrow.

"What are you doing here Cyrus?" The bitter words fell out of her mouth without hesitation

"Well considering this is my private area, I should be asking you that question." He relaxed back into the bench, his Prussian blue suit creasing at his movement

"I'm guessing it finally hit you, the marriage I mean." He spat out without pity falling on his eyes.

"Maybe.. He just." She took a deep breath, clearing her clouded mind.

"He looked so happy with her." Cyrus cocked an eyebrow, judgment melting into his expression.

"Happy?" Cyrus repeated her words back at her causing her to look his way with a pout of her reddened lips and sniffling nose.

"Yes, happy. what else would he be.." She rolled her amethyst eyes at him, the pout not leaving her expression.

"You got to be kidding V. He looks miserable!" His fingers cradled the bridge of his nose as he winced.

"Stop doing that- you look stupid.."

"You sound stupid!"

"Hey-!" She punched his arm in frustration, his body's position unchanging.

"We both know that did absolutely nothing V"

A smirk began to form across his face as she began to shake her pained wrist.

"Serves you right for being stupid."

He flicks Vienna's forehead before observing a frog pushing another into the water

"We both know Asher, it's impossible for him to be actually happy in this situation"

"You're right.. But still."

"Yes yes, his smile sweeps you off of your feet!-" He gets up, lifting Vienna bridal style and spinning her around.

"And dips you like the handsome manly man he is" Cyrus proceeds to dip her with a smirk, his baby talk causing Vienna to furrow her eyebrows, redness spreading to her cheeks.

She whined, his face being an inch away.

"Put me down, you charlatan!" She huffed, beginning to laugh alongside him. They stared into each other's eyes for a second, her cheeks starting to hurt. Cyrus smiled as he placed her down.

"Thank you.." She mumbled, causing Cyruses' ears to pitch.

"What's that princess?" He teased, his cat-like eyes following her every move.

"I said thank you, you deaf old man"

"I'm only a year older!" He rolled his eyes, before cracking a smile at her laughing at him, although he felt embarrassed, he still loved the sight of her laughter.

They giggled together for a short while before Cyrus began his walk off the gazebo, patting Vienna on the top of her head with a sympathetic smile.

"I guess it would've been nice to have a little more time.."

"What do you mean Cy?" She tilted her head, her eyes slightly squinting in his direction.

He waved his hand behind him as he walked away, the crunching of the grass slowly fading as Vienna ponders.

"I guess he really is deaf.." Vienna looked up at the starry night, wondering what he could have meant, what the look of pity in his eyes signified, she didn't know.

Pity about her not getting the love of her life?

That could be it.

"I agree with him though" She whispered into the sky as she admired the stars above

"I wish I did have a bit more time, maybe things would have gone a little differently"

Vienna stood and waited, as if she were asking for the stars to grant her that one, longing wish.

They only stared back at her, the moon irradiating her very being. She took a long pause before hearing a rustle behind her, thinking it's Cyrus.

"𝚒 𝚌𝚘𝚞𝚕𝚍 𝚐𝚛𝚊𝚗𝚝 𝚝𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚠𝚒𝚜𝚑 𝚏𝚘𝚛 𝚢𝚘𝚞"

A fox-masked stranger replied before a silky smooth dagger wedged its way into her throat, giving Vienna no time to react. She gagged, blood dripping down her neck as she fell over, clutching to the side of the bench for support. The Gazebo taunted her as she looked at herself in the marble. Her reflection disappeared under a pool of crimson that poisoned the pond below. She continued gagging, not being able to face her attacker. Laying in her pool of blood, a small thought doted on her… the confession she never shared.

She wished she could have had a chance to confess.
