Chapter 59
Lily's POV
I finally slipped into the long silk nightdress, careful not to turn around. My back was to him, but I could feel it, like an ant crawling on my skin. Joe's gaze was on me. It burned like the ghost of a touch I didn't want to remember… but couldn't forget.
Even though he had "amnesia," his presence still unsettled me. My body knew him. My wolf trembled for him. But now, I had to pretend we were strangers.
I cleared my throat and whispered, "Thank you… for the dress."
He didn't answer. He just kept staring. Or maybe not. But I felt it. The silence buzzed in my ears, stretched out like old gum between awkward teenagers.
"Okay…" I muttered under my breath, breaking the stillness.
I tiptoed to a corner of the room where a thin blanket had been laid on the floor. The palace had luxury in abundance, golden drapes, velvet cushions, marble floors, but here I was, curling up like some stray omega with no place to belong.
