Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: One Skill Point Per Second!

"One skill point per second?"

Victor replayed the voice in his head, and he was beyond excited

You have to know, if an awakener wants more power, they have to level up their skills.

For example, a beginner Knight might beat an intermediate mage with a Tier 2 skill!

Stuff like that isn't rare in the Federation at all.

And the only way to level skills is with skill points!

But getting skill points is super harsh

You can only get them by grinding training day after day, or by hunting beasts.

So tons of awakeners basically risk their lives for skill points.

Lots of people train day and night in the arena and maybe only get a few dozen skill points in a whole month.

But Victor?

He didn't need to kill himself training or hunting beasts at all.

Even if he did nothing all day, he'd still get 86,400 skill points!

Take Dash, the skill Victor just got.

It's one of the most common Knight skills. A lot of Knights practice day and night, and even in their fifties or sixties, they still might not max out Dash!

But Victor was different! If he wanted, in one day, his Dash could be max level!

Victor took a deep breath and told himself silently, "Calm down, Victor. Don't show how excited you are."

He knew if anyone found out about this crazy cheat, he'd be in huge danger!

And the way Victor looked on stage right then, everyone took it as him being sad and crushed.

Down below, the Bonfire Society man in black frowned and whispered to the woman in the white dress in front, "Saintess, let's go."

The Saintess locked her beautiful eyes on Victor, shook her head, and said, "I'll wait for him to come down."

The man in black paused, confused. "He only awakened the most ordinary Knight class. We really don't need to waste—"

The Saintess's sharp aura flared. "Shut up!"

The man in black bowed his head right away and didn't dare say another word.

Up on the platform, City Lord Chris and Tax Officer Lewis also looked stunned.

After a moment, Chris finally calmed down and shook his head with some regret, saying, "Alright, Lewis, I really misjudged you. I'll put one hundred federal credits on your card."

Amid the chatter, Victor walked down from the awakening platform calmly.

He didn't feel much disappointment or anger about being looked down on.

More than that, it was a feeling he never had before.

Today, seeing Victor only awaken as a Knight, many people tore off their disguise.

They stood by Victor and mocked and insulted him like crazy

And this let Victor see clearly who could be a friend and who was just fake!

"Victor!"

The saintess walked over quickly, still holding a piece of parchment in her hand.

Victor glanced at the saintess in surprise, not understanding why she would still come to him.

He thought that when the saintess saw he had awakened as a Knight, she would be very disappointed and turn away

The saintess looked at him and said softly, "I don't like breaking a promise. We agreed I'd come find you after you awakened your class."

Victor looked at the smiling saintess and liked her a little more.

In his mind, the Bonfire Society were a bunch of crazy hotheads.

He didn't expect there was also a pretty likable saintess among them.

"Thank you, but sorry..." Victor shrugged and said with regret, "I really don't like joining all kinds of groups."

The saintess didn't get mad about it, and she smiled and nodded: "Okay."

Then she said, "My name is Elena, I'm the saintess of the Bonfire Society, we'll meet again if we get the chance."

Victor nodded: "I hope so."

After saying goodbye to Elena, Victor got ready to head home.

Victor's family wasn't very rich, and his parents were employees of the construction department in the underground city.

As the construction department was one of the busiest agencies in the underground city, his parents almost never had free time.

So they didn't get time off to watch Victor's awakening.

But after he got home, Victor's parents still prepared a big dinner to welcome him back.

"Victor, my precious son!" Victor's mom, Sheena, saw him push the door open and hurried over to hug him, smiling as she said, "You must be hungry, come eat."

Victor nodded and went to the table to start eating.

His parents didn't rush to ask what class Victor awakened.

Not until Victor was half full did his dad, Dean, smile and ask, "Victor, can you tell us your class?"

Victor nodded and said calmly, "I awakened as a Knight, and the skill that comes with it is Dash."

Sheena covered her face, looking shocked: "Our kid will become a Knight?"

Dean was excited too. He slapped the table and laughed, "A Knight! Our family will be proud of you!"

The two of them didn't know that "Knight" was just a pretty average class among combat classes.

They only knew their kid had become a Knight, and in the future he would fight for the Federation's rise.

Just then, there was a knock at Victor's front door.

Victor walked over and opened it, and saw a tall, rugged man.

"Holmes?" Victor was pretty surprised to see Holmes.

Holmes was the neighbor's kid, four years older than Victor, and they were really close.

He worked in the Federation's ruins cleanup department now, and he rarely came home.

"I heard you awakened your class today, so I took time off to come see you."

Holmes threw an arm around Victor and said, excited, "Tell me, what class did you awaken today?"

Victor said, "Knight!"

Holmes froze for a second, like he hadn't expected Victor to awaken just a normal Knight.

But he calmed down fast and smiled, saying, "A Knight? That's a great class! On the surface, countless Knights fight beasts, for the Federation!"

Holmes paused there, looked at Victor, and asked, "What are you planning, join the underground city's reserve Knights' Order right away, or take the Federation Awakeners Exam in a month?"

The Federation Awakeners Exam was a selection the Federation offered to all students who had just awakened a class.

If you passed, you got a chance to go study at a top Federation academy.

"I'm taking the Awakeners Exam!" Victor's answer was firm.

He knew that if he joined the reserve Knights' Order right away, his future would be limited.

At most he'd be a small squad leader in the Knights' Order.

But now he had awakened a strong talent that gave him one skill point per second, so of course he had to look for a bigger stage.

Holmes heard him and nodded, "Good ambition. Taking the Awakeners Exam really does give you a better future."

"Oh right, this is my gift for you." As Holmes spoke, he took a scroll out of the backpack behind him.

Victor looked at the red scroll and said in surprise, "Is this a Training Boost Scroll?"

A Training Boost Scroll, once you use it and then train, boosts how fast you gain skill points. It's a very popular scroll item.

Holmes nodded and said, "That's right."

Victor shook his head, feeling bad, and said, "Holmes, this is too expensive. I can't take it."

"Just take it!" Holmes still shoved the scroll into Victor's hand, then turned and walked off quickly.

Victor looked at Holmes's back as he left, and warmth rose in his heart.

Holmes wasn't disappointed just because he had awakened a plain class. Instead, he even gave him a scroll.

Even though the scroll wasn't very useful to Victor right now, he would always remember this kindness.

Victor put the scroll away and was just about to shut the door when a slim hand grabbed it and kept him from closing it.

"Who?" Victor turned his head to look and saw a woman standing to the side of the door.

"Elena, why are you here again?" Victor looked at Elena's smiling face and was speechless for a moment.

An hour ago, he had said goodbye to Elena, and he thought that was probably forever.

But after just one hour, Elena had come looking for him again.

"Don't be mad at me." Elena saw Victor's annoyance, and with big shining eyes, she spoke in a pitiful way, not like a saintess at all.
