Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: The Eye of Illusion

Thinking for a while, Victor decided to use the first random skill book first.

Victor opened his panel and used his mind to open the skill book that was glowing with white light.

Soon, the white light became brighter and brighter, and a line of white text appeared on the panel.

[Used one random skill book, obtained the skill: Iron Fist.]

"Iron Fist?" Victor was relatively satisfied with this skill. Iron Fist could strengthen his fists, which was very suitable for fighting when he had no weapons.

"I'll upgrade Iron Fist first," Victor said. He had more than enough skill points, so he wasn't afraid of spending them.

[Consumed 100 skill points. The skill has been upgraded. Iron Fist evolved into Wind Breaking Fist.]

[Consumed 1,000 skill points. The skill has been upgraded. Wind Breaking Fist evolved into Golden Stone Fist.]

Victor immediately opened the panel to check the description of Golden Stone Fist.

[Skill: Golden Stone Fist]

[Type: Active Skill]

[Effect: Uses 10 mana points each time, cooldown time is one hour.]

[Requirement: Use 10,000 skill points to upgrade.]

[Effect: Both hands turn into golden stone. Can break mountains and split the earth. Unmatched power.]

The effect of the skill was roughly what Victor had expected. The mana cost was also within his acceptable range.

According to Victor's analysis, when a skill is upgraded to a third-tier skill, it usually requires some mana cost.

Since Victor's mana was not very high, he didn't dare to upgrade the skill to the fourth tier, to avoid the embarrassment of not being able to use it.

"What type of next skill should I choose?" Victor decided to analyze his current skill set before making a decision.

So far, Victor had awakened four skills: Phantom Dash, Sky-Splitting Slash, Holy Light Dragonbane Slash, and the newly obtained Golden Stone Fist.

Among them, Phantom Dash was an evasion skill, which could increase Victor's movement speed and help him escape danger.

The other three were combat skills. For Victor, a beginner Knight, three skills were more than enough.

"I'm missing a scouting skill!" Victor thought and had an idea in his mind.

Earlier at Moon Lake, he hadn't discovered the danger in the lake because his scouting ability was not good enough.

If he had had a scouting skill back then, he might have noticed the abnormality in the lake and saved himself a lot of trouble.

Thinking about this, Victor made a decision right away and chose the "Scouting" type on the specified skill book.

Soon, a purple light flashed, and Victor saw the new skill he had obtained.

[Used one specified type skill book (Scouting), obtained the skill: Eagle Eye.]

[Skill: Eagle Eye]

[Type: Passive Skill]

[Effect: No cost at all.]

[Requirement: 100 skill points to upgrade.]

[Effect: Greatly improves vision and the user's observational ability.]

"Eagle Eye, sounds good. Let's upgrade it first," Victor nodded happily and started to upgrade the Eagle Eye.

[Consumed 100 skill points... Skill upgrade failed!]

"What the hell?" Victor was stunned, feeling confused.

The previous upgrades had all gone smoothly. But this time, the skill upgrade had failed.

Victor immediately opened his phone to look up what was going on.

After checking, Victor changed from anger to happiness.

The reason he had failed was because the skill was too rare, or maybe too powerful.

Because of this, the probability of the upgrade failing was very high to keep the balance between skills.

It was said that some people had obtained such skills by chance, but because of bad luck, they might spend tens of thousands of skill points and still couldn't upgrade them.

"For most people, an upgrade failure could be a nightmare. But for me, it's just a few more minutes," Victor smiled as he thought about this.

One hundred skill points might take many people more than a month of hard training.

If the upgrade failed, it would mean all that hard work was wasted, which would be hard for many to accept.

But for Victor, getting 100 skill points was just a little over one minute.

"I want to see how many times this skill can fail!" Victor immediately tried upgrading again.

[Consumed 100 skill points... Skill upgrade failed!]

"Again!" Victor tried again.

[Consumed 100 skill points... Skill upgrade failed!]

"This failure rate is really high," Victor didn't get angry, but was actually happy.

Because according to the records, the higher the failure rate, the stronger the skill.

Victor took a deep breath and kept trying to upgrade.

But soon, he fell into an endless cycle of failures.

After the 70th attempt, Victor finally heard a pleasant sound.

[Consumed 100 skill points. Skill has been upgraded. Eagle Eye evolved into Illusion Eye.]

[Skill: Illusion Eye]

[Type: Passive Skill]

[Effect: No cost at all. Can be used once per day for illusion vision.]

[Requirement: 1,000 skill points, one Clear Sky Stone.]

[Effect: Greatly improves the user's vision and observational ability, as well as the ability to sense danger.]

[Illusion Vision Effect: After using it, the eyes enter an illusion state, allowing the user to see everything around them clearly for one minute.]

"This is a really powerful skill. I really got lucky this time!" Victor excitedly waved his fists. At this moment, he could already feel his eyes becoming stronger.

But the most exciting part for Victor was this illusion vision skill.

Seeing everything around, it meant that no matter how perfect the hiding was, it would be completely exposed under Victor's eyes.

"Once I complete one more upgrade, I wonder what kind of improvement the Illusion Eye will get," Victor was about to continue evolving when he suddenly noticed a change in the upgrade requirements.

This time, it wasn't just 1,000 skill points anymore. There was also a special item — Clear Sky Stone.

"What is this thing?" Victor frowned and searched online.

Soon, he found out the specific information about the Clear Sky Stone.

The Clear Sky Stone is a special stone. It is very rare and is usually used by artificers when forging weapons.

The current price on the market is one Clear Sky Stone for one million federal coins.

And most sellers don't accept money. They require an item of equal value in exchange.

"One million? When will I save that?" Seeing the long string of numbers on his phone, Victor felt a little discouraged.

His parents earn about ten thousand federal coins per year. After all their expenses, they can only save about one thousand federal coins each year.

So, to get a Clear Sky Stone, Victor had no choice but to earn it himself.

"Darkwood Park has a lot of good things. Maybe I can find something valuable," Victor looked at the dense Black Forest and made a plan in his mind.

If he worked a regular job, it would take a long time to save up one million federal coins.

Compared to that, it was easier to go on an adventure and search for treasure on the surface.

Plus, now that Victor had the Illusion Eye, he should be able to avoid most dangers.

"Although the protected area might not have very valuable items, even a little money is better than nothing," Victor thought to himself.

Most explorers don't go to the protected area to search for treasures. That's because most of the good items there have already been taken by the federal government.

They usually go to ancient ruins, exploring and searching for treasures in areas not yet controlled by the federation.

Victor was only level 5 now and wasn't qualified to go on an adventure outside.

Before going on an adventure, Victor decided to add all the new attribute points he had just gained, to improve his strength.

He had thirty attribute points. This time, he added ten to strength, ten to constitution, and ten to agility.

After adding the points, Victor's panel improved a lot.

[Name: Victor]

[Occupation: Knight]

[Level: Novice (lv.5)]

[HP: 250]

[MP: 100]

[Strength: 160]

[Agility: 100]

[Constitution: 135]

[Intelligence: 105]

"With these stats, as long as nothing special happens, I should be able to explore freely in Darkwood Park," Victor thought to himself.

This time, he would go to the northern part of Darkwood Park alone. He heard that there were several beast groups gathered there.

Victor wanted to practice with them and see if he could get some good items.
