Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: The Council Strikes Back

The calm that had settled over the city was shattered before dawn. Mukul sensed it immediately—the Council of Shadows was striking back, furious that their mole had been exposed and their plans disrupted.

"They've mobilized all their resources," Mukul murmured, golden aura flickering. "This isn't a simple attack—it's a full-scale assault on the city."

Meera's eyes scanned the horizon. "Shadow constructs, illusions, energy surges… they're pulling everything at once. We need to act fast."

Kavya smirked, twirling her dagger. "Full-scale assault? Finally, some real action."

Anaya's expression was tense. "Excitement won't save anyone. Strategy, coordination, and calm precision will."

Saira's calm voice reminded them, "Observe, anticipate, and act as one. Unity is our strongest weapon."

Liyana leaned casually, spinning her lockpick. "And style makes surviving an apocalypse look effortless."

Mukul nodded, formulating the plan. "We divide into attack and defence teams. Meera, Anaya, and I neutralize the main surge in the city centre. Kavya, Saira, and Liyana secure civilians and disable peripheral energy nodes. Timing and coordination are essential."

The city shook as shadow constructs emerged from the dark energy, twisting streets into labyrinths of illusion. Energy surges threatened to collapse buildings.

"Stick close!" Mukul shouted, golden aura flaring to shield the team.

Meera and Anaya struck first, dismantling core constructs with precise attacks. Kavya leapt from above, striking multiple guardians, while Saira intercepted destructive energy pulses. Liyana disrupted wards and traps, clearing paths for fleeing civilians.

At the heart of the city, a massive shadow surge coalesced, a pulsating embodiment of the Council's wrath.

"We need to destabilize it!" Mukul shouted, threading golden energy through the artifacts.

The women moved instinctively. Meera attacked weak points, Anaya dismantled controlling nodes, Kavya disrupted peripheral constructs, Saira deflected energy surges, and Liyana neutralized auxiliary wards.

Mukul focused, channelling all his golden energy into the surge. Light exploded outward, shattering constructs, dispelling illusions, and restoring the city streets.

Breathing heavily, Mukul looked at the women. Each was bruised but determined, eyes shining with courage and resolve.

"Teamwork," he said softly. "Coordination, trust, and unity—that is why we survive and triumph."

Kavya grinned. "And style, don't forget style."

Anaya smirked. "Coordination wins. Chaos doesn't matter."

Saira nodded calmly. "Unity and vigilance always prevail."

Meera added firmly, "Protecting each other—that is our true strength."

Liyana twirled her dagger, "And charm always helps, optional but effective."

The Council's all-out assault had failed. Their fury had been immense, but Mukul and his allies had survived, stronger and more coordinated than ever.

Golden light pulsed softly from the artifacts—a reminder that strategy, courage, and unity would guide them through the darkness still to come.

But Mukul knew this was only the beginning. The Council would regroup, learn from their failure, and strike again. Every victory brought new challenges, and the war for the city—and the world—was far from over.

Yet with the women at his side, Mukul was ready to face any shadow, any trap, any enemy. Together, they would endure, fight, and ultimately triumph.
