### The Eldritch Whispers of the Void
In the vast emptiness of the void, after what could have been an eternity or an instant, awareness flickered like a candle in pitch darkness. A soul emerged from oblivion, unnamed and alone, drifting through the cold silence. Faint whispers of color strayed at the edge of vision—remnants of forgotten memories, now out of reach.
"Where am I?" he wondered, the thought echoing in the endless black.
A voice, deep as the flow of time itself, rippled through the nothingness. "Welcome, welcome, welcome! To the grand theater of the void, where the curtain never rises and the show never ends!"
Anxiety twisted inside the man. His voice trembled, broken by confusion. "Who are you? And more importantly, where am I?"
"You are in the void, my dear. You're dead. Isn't that just delightful? No more boring meetings, no more annoying co-workers, just endless, blissful nothingness!"
The man felt as if he were falling without end. Grief and bewilderment tangled inside him, but then he noticed the emptiness in his mind—a void within the void. He remembered nothing. Not a name. Not a face.
"Do you know who I am?" he asked, desperation sharpening his tone.
"Memory loss? Oh, that's a classic! Let's see... Your name was Alexander Pierce. People called you Alex. You lived until the age of twenty-two. You were a massive fan of anime and manga. Orphaned at twelve. Loved once, briefly, a girlfriend for two weeks before heartbreak. Lost friends after high school. Died alone in a single-bedroom apartment. The last thing you watched was a leak for Jujutsu Kaisen Season Three. Quite the life story, isn't it?"
The words unlocked fractured images. With a sigh heavy as stone, Alexander's memories crawled back—his life condensed into a handful of bittersweet moments. Weariness overtook him. "Now what? Do I go to hell or heaven? Are you God?"
A pause. The darkness seemed to listen, then gently shift. "First of all, no. And second, no. I am not God. But for beings like you, I might as well be one. Think of me as the ultimate cosmic prankster, the jester of the multiverse. You're neither bound for hell nor heaven. You're going to become my beta tester for my multiverse system. Isn't that just dandy?"
Alexander blinked, trying to discern the figure in the gloom. "What? Am I going to reincarnate into some anime or something—like those fanfics?"
"Yes and no," ROB replied, his amusement evident. "You will reincarnate into a new world I created. But unlike those stories, you have total control over your character creation. So make yourself overpowered, underpowered, however you like. Tell me when you're ready. You can call me ROB. Or Lord ROB, if you prefer something a bit more... regal."
The void twisted, the emptiness folding into itself, and transformed. Light bloomed. Suddenly, Alexander stood within a room illuminated by a ghostly computer, its monitor flickering with a character creation menu reminiscent of old games. The air buzzed with possibility—a faint scent like burnt ozone, and somewhere distant, the echo of digital chimes.
Drawing on his love of CYOAs, Alex worked through the options, crafting a version of himself he felt satisfied with. "Alright, ROB, I'm ready to dive in. What kind of world am I stepping into?"
ROB's laughter resonated, an ancient wind stirring the world between worlds. "A world of endless possibilities, Alex. One where your choices shape the reality. You can be a hero, a villain, or something in between. The power is yours to wield. Just don't blame me if you end up as the villain in someone else's story!"
Alexander nodded, his fingers dancing over the virtual keyboard, adjusting stats and abilities. "I want to be strong, but not invincible. Let's give me a balance of power and vulnerability. Maybe some unique skills that set me apart."
"Excellent choices," ROB murmured, the void humming with approval. "Remember, the world will react to your actions. Your decisions will have consequences, and the story will unfold based on your choices. And who knows? Maybe you'll even find a way to cheat the system. Wouldn't that be a hoot?"
Alex continued to fine-tune his character, adding layers of depth and complexity. "I want a backstory that's both tragic and hopeful. Something that drives me forward, no matter the obstacles."
ROB's presence seemed to expand, filling the void with a sense of ancient wisdom and eldritch power. "Your backstory will be woven into the fabric of the world. It will influence your journey and the lives of those you encounter. Choose wisely, for your past will shape your future. And if you're really lucky, maybe you'll even find a way to change the rules of the game. Wouldn't that be a kick?"
As Alexander finalized his character build, he looked up at the void, feeling a mix of excitement and trepidation. "I'm ready, ROB. Let's see where this takes me."
A surge of blinding light enveloped Alexander. The computer, the room, even his worries vanished. Only ROB remained, a solitary presence in the immensity of the void.
"Let's see how he can entertain me," ROB mused, the darkness settling once more, patient and eternal. The eldritch whispers of the void echoed with anticipation, ready to watch the unfolding of a new story, a new world, and a new destiny for Alex
