The Dressrosa Kingdom was a small island you could find anywhere across the Grand Line or the Four Seas.
As a small island nation, Dressrosa had only one city.
Years ago, it was among the poorest of the World Government's member states.
The treasury didn't even hold ten billion belli.
But after the crown changed hands to the Warlord of the Sea known as the Heavenly Demon, Donquixote Doflamingo, the nation swiftly grew wealthy and was remade into a tropical resort isle.
In the New World, Dressrosa ranked as an entertainment haven second only to the world's largest pleasure city, Gran Tesoro.
It had a grand coliseum, the famous Lovers' Street, and living toys that looked like people.
Yami did not sail up to Dressrosa in the open, nor did he row his skiff to the shore.
Once the island came into view, he opened an air door into the other space, infiltrated Dressrosa from there, and began searching for his target.
His target was not Sugar, who had eaten the Paramecia Hobby-Hobby Fruit, nor Baby 5, who had eaten the Paramecia Arms-Arms Fruit.
It was Viola, second daughter of King Riku's predecessor line, who had eaten the Paramecia Glare-Glare Fruit.
For his third ability, Yami again chose a support-type fruit without raw destructive power—the Paramecia Glare-Glare Fruit.
Like the Door-Door Fruit, the Glare-Glare Fruit was another unanswerable, strategic-class power.
It granted x-ray sight, telescopic sight, and mind-reading.
Anyone within the user's field of view was laid bare as if naked, and whatever they currently held in mind would be read at once.
More fearsome than the x-ray and mind-reading was its far sight.
The Glare-Glare Fruit's far sight was a true "thousand-mile eye."
Centered on the user, vision could extend across a radius of four thousand kilometers.
What does that mean?
One nautical mile is 1.85 kilometers. Four thousand kilometers is 2,159.8 nautical miles.
The world's largest entertainment city, Gran Tesoro, is a ship-island ten kilometers long.
Even four hundred golden ships lined up end to end would still lie within the eye's range.
This "thousand-mile eye" could be paired with x-ray and mind-reading.
On a battlefield, enemy troop deployments and battle plans would be known in advance.
The side with a Glare-Glare user would hold absolute intelligence superiority.
If the Door-Door Fruit and the Glare-Glare Fruit belonged to the same faction, it would be a dimensionality-reduction strike.
If both powers were in one person, that person's combat power aside, he would fear no pursuit or threat from any force.
If your ship was still a thousand miles out yet they had already seen you and knew your thoughts, then unless you could teleport or enter another space, you would never find them.
So Yami was determined to obtain the Glare-Glare Fruit.
With it, he would no longer fear offending the great powers.
Even if rotten luck put him on the road against an internal-destruction Haki specialist, he would not fear a sudden move to kill or capture him.
Likewise, once he marked a target, no matter where they hid, they could not escape his eyes.
Yami began to move through the other space, searching for Viola.
Dressrosa was a small nation with only one city, and most of its people had been turned into toys by Sugar.
Given Viola's status, Yami needed only a few hours to find her behind one of the casinos.
With far sight, x-ray, and mind-reading, Viola could show her value even without using the "thousand-mile eye," simply by reading which gamblers were cheating.
After locating her, Yami did not rush.
He had yet to cross fists with a true powerhouse and had no precise gauge of his current strength.
So he chose not to enter the vision of the big names and prepared to assassinate Viola.
Once he seized the Glare-Glare Fruit, he would leave the New World at once and return to the first half of the Grand Line or the Four Seas to develop for a time.
He remained hidden in the other space, watching her in silence.
During that time he noticed one of the Donquixote Family's top executives:
Diamante, commander of the Family's combat army and eater of the Paramecia Flutter-Flutter Fruit.
By rights, as a killer under the Trebol Army, Viola should have been managed by Trebol, who had eaten the Paramecia Sticky-Sticky Fruit.
But because Trebol guarded Sugar at all times, Family affairs fell to Diamante and Pica.
Fortunately, Diamante did not seek out Viola, only the casino's manager.
Night fell. After a day's work, Viola finally left the casino and returned to the royal palace.
She did not seek out Doflamingo, but went back to her princess's chamber.
As a Glare-Glare user favored by Doflamingo, she had lost the rank of princess yet kept certain privileges.
She was the most special of all the Donquixote Family's killers.
Back in her room, the first thing Viola wanted was a bath.
She opened her wardrobe to choose clothes.
From the other space, Yami finally saw his chance and bared his fangs.
He walked toward Viola and reached out his hand.
In the next instant, Viola's beautiful light-brown eyes and small mouth began to spin rapidly.
The Door-Door Fruit can open doors not only in objects but also in things without fixed form, like flame and air, and even in the human body.
The types of doors, their sizes, and shapes vary.
The spinning doors in her eyes and mouth were the same rotating doors Blueno once used against Luffy.
The sudden spin left Viola dizzy in a flash, unable even to cry for help.
Creak.
Sealing her sight and speech for the moment, Yami opened an air door and dragged Viola into the other space from behind.
Crack.
He shut the door, used Dark Water to seal her fruit power, clamped a merciless hand around her neck, and squeezed.
With the snap of a crushed windpipe, Viola's lovely eyes rolled white and dulled.
Her struggling body went slack.
Yami completed his sister-slayer's ascension and crushed the flower with ruthless hands.
