But once the post–two-year arc revealed that a Devil Fruit's power can, with some probability, attach to the nearest fruit to be reborn, that guess was overturned.
That black cloth was simply to keep others from seeing his method of seizure.
When he took the fruit, Blackbeard had no fruit in his hand, meaning he directly seized the Paramecia Tremor-Tremor Fruit's power.
Which implies that with the right special physique, one can use the Dark-Dark Fruit's black hole gravity to pull the devil's power from the dead and draw it straight into one's own body.
So, after setting Blueno's body down, Yami began converting stamina into darkness.

Without question, the Door-Door Fruit is one of the most unanswerable abilities among all Devil Fruits.
At least among support-type powers, few can compare.
So long as you hide in the other space, unless the enemy can also enter it, even an Emperor cannot harm a Door-Door user.

This Eternal Pose led to an island in the New World, the home of Yami's second target.
A few days later, he passed through the Devil's Triangle ruled by Gecko Moria and reached the Sabaody Archipelago at the end of the first half of the Grand Line.
Along the way, he considered paying a visit to the Thriller Bark Pirates.
After all, the Paramecia Shadow-Shadow Fruit, the Paramecia Ghost-Ghost Fruit, and the Paramecia Clear-Clear Fruit are all exceedingly precious.
But after some thought, he shelved the idea.
For now, hunting the second target was paramount.
The Thriller Bark Pirates would linger in the Devil's Triangle for five years.
Once his strength could completely crush them, he could harvest them anytime.
At Sabaody, Yami didn't pause to admire the world's most beautiful archipelago formed by the roots of the world's largest mangrove.

Others must risk a ten-thousand-meter dive to Fish-Man Island or pay a steep fee to abandon their ships and enter via the Holy Land Mary Geoise, but for the Door-Door Fruit, it was simple.
Upon entering the New World, Yami rowed straight toward the site of his second target.
On the way he met every sort of violent weather.
Had this been before he ate the Dark-Dark Fruit, no climate would have threatened him.
But having become a land-bound devil after eating a Logia, he felt a twinge of caution toward the Grand Line's mercurial skies.
That caution vanished quickly.
He had the Door-Door Fruit.
Even in a once-in-a-century storm while adrift on a small boat, he could slip into the other space and avoid all danger.
The other space is the safest emergency shelter in the world.
After several days, he finally reached the island recorded by the Eternal Pose.
Its name was the Dressrosa Kingdom.
