Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Must Do Something

Lucas Warren didn't consider cooperating with others to snipe the McKinley family's cavalry, because his fighting methods had too many secrets and weren't suitable for cooperation with others.

Moreover, these were all targets he needed to personally liberate.

As for telling the farm people in advance, it wasn't necessary either. Once fighting started, they would naturally become alert upon hearing gunfire.

So what remained was where to ambush these cavalrymen.

Henry basically wasn't picky about food. Carrots and other foods rich in vitamin A were also common in America, so he didn't have night blindness.

Moreover, Henry had just discovered that after upgrading his constitution once, his night vision had improved greatly, though he still couldn't achieve true night vision.

In this season in Denver, sunset didn't begin until 8 PM, and dawn broke at 5:30 AM, making for very long daylight hours.

So Henry could set out around 4:30 AM.

Having calculated everything, Henry began preparing various supplies, including cleaning and filling ten water pouches, tent, sleeping bag, insect repellent, and so on.

Then he took inventory of the weapons and ammunition he possessed.

First were Winchester 1873 rifles, 47 total, including two "One of One Thousand" precision versions, with 4,240 .44 bullets.

Second were Colt 1873 single-action revolvers, 47 total, sharing ammunition with the rifles.

Third were Colt 1878 double-action revolvers, 8 total, with 897 bullets.

There were also 52 throwing knives and 49 various daggers and sabers.

Finally, there was the peculiar revolver from the bandit chief who had attacked the town.

This LeMat revolver's most distinctive feature was its combined revolver and shotgun design. This pistol's cylinder had 9 chambers, each capable of holding 1 pistol cartridge, loading 9 rounds total, fired through the pistol barrel.

Below the pistol barrel, aligned with the cylinder's central axis, was a large-caliber smoothbore barrel used to fire one shotgun shell.

The gunner only needed to flip the firing pin up for revolver mode, or down for shotgun mode.

This LeMat revolver's pistol barrel was also 0.44 inches in caliber, with the shotgun barrel set at 20-gauge, firing shotgun shells with 15.6mm diameter.

20-gauge shotgun shells had tremendous power and could serve as a devastating close-range weapon.

The drawback was that it was very heavy to handle, making aiming, firing, and reloading difficult. In actual operation, loading this gun was extremely difficult, almost impossible during combat.

However, when powerful firepower was needed, one shot was sufficient.

Unfortunately, the various high-power shotguns of later eras hadn't appeared yet.

Henry spent over an hour loading all the firearms with ammunition, disengaging their safeties, then storing them in his space.

Then he took out the large copper pot and found the water inside was still kept at boiling temperature.

This indicated that items placed in the storage space were likely in a static state.

Henry set his alarm clock and hurried to sleep - he could only get 5 hours of rest.

At 4:30 AM, Henry was punctually awakened by the alarm. Within ten minutes, he was at the police station stable saddling his quarter horse and collecting some fodder.

By 5 o'clock he had ridden out of town on his police horse. The horizon already showed a hint of dawn's light, and the wilderness had become dimly visible instead of pitch black.

Henry rode at full gallop, racing across grasslands, canyons, and mountains, breathing the fresh scent of grass and trees in the morning air, feeling the free and cool breeze, naturally developing a heroic and chivalrous spirit.

Meanwhile, ten miles away at a temporary camp, a group of armed cavalrymen were ready to move out.

Commander Oliver loudly went over the key points: "Kill all the men. Don't get so carried away with pleasure that you let the women kill you in return. Make sure they lose the ability to resist. Leave two women or half-grown children from the farm. All property will be distributed uniformly. After ambushing Henry, don't desecrate his corpse - he's still a real Western man."

Elsewhere, after more than ten minutes, Henry had reached a selected hilltop. He tied his horse's reins with a slip knot to a Colorado blue spruce and took out a small amount of fodder for the horse to eat alone.

He stood atop the hill, overlooking the dimly vast wilderness below.

Dawn was approaching, and the desolate Western land was breathing deeply, waiting for the sun to rise again.

Immersed in the wildness, vastness, and grandeur of the boundless Western land, Henry suddenly contemplated a profound question - his life goals going forward.

Having arrived in such a magnificent time and space and possessing such powerful abilities, he surely had to do something?

Henry recalled when he was Lucas Warren. In his second year of junior high school, his parents, who were ordinary workers, died in a car accident and left no property to him, coming from a small town background.

Fortunately, his only relative, older sister Lucas Tianfang, had just graduated from senior high school, and the siblings had a good relationship.

She didn't attend a second-tier university, but went early to work in a third or fourth-tier city to support his education.

She didn't marry her brother-in-law, who also went to the city to work, until Lucas Warren was in his junior year.

Lucas Warren studied architectural engineering at Tongji, a prestigious university in Shanghai. Because of his excellent academics and good looks, he fell in love with a local Shanghai girl from the same university who was a year younger during his sophomore year.

But after graduation, her parents strongly opposed their relationship.

After the girlfriend's intense struggle, her parents agreed to observe Lucas Warren for three years.

However, Shanghai wasn't easy to navigate. A year later, when his girlfriend graduated and entered a government agency arranged by her parents, the gap between them grew even larger.

Just then, a major company's engineering team approached Lucas Warren to participate in infrastructure construction in Africa, with salary plus allowances totaling 200,000-300,000 yuan per year for a minimum of three years, with even higher compensation for longer terms.

After consulting with his girlfriend, Lucas Warren resolutely embarked on the path to make money in Africa, hoping to save 900,000 yuan in three years to marry his girlfriend.

As it turned out, in the first year, his girlfriend's contact clearly decreased, and in the second year it became very rare. When Lucas Warren finally managed to take half a month's leave to return to Shanghai to find her, she broke up with him.

It could only be said that the girl's values and worldview had changed dramatically after starting work compared to when she was studying.

And physical distance really was emotional distance.

After several attempts to salvage the relationship failed, the disheartened Lucas Warren returned to Africa.

After working for more than four years, Lucas Warren returned home to visit his sister's family and suffered another huge blow - his sister and brother-in-law had used all the more than 1.3 million yuan he had accumulated in his bank savings account over the years!

His brother-in-law had used it to buy a house and car and opened a small supermarket.

His bank savings card was one his sister had applied for with his ID card after the college entrance exam, so she could send him monthly living expenses.

All these years he hadn't thought to change the password. Before going abroad, he had given the card to his sister for safekeeping, telling her to withdraw money whenever she needed it.

He had opened a new card abroad for daily expenses, transferring most of his money to the old card.

His brother-in-law later avoided meeting him.

Looking at his sister, who looked much older than her actual age and was guilt-ridden and anxious, and his two little nephews, Lucas Warren didn't say much. He told her to live well and returned to Africa alone.

Soon after, he was unlucky enough to be captured by local armed thugs, later rescued by chance by a group of French mercenaries, and he himself had seen blood.

He happened to have learned French during his years in Africa, and having grown tired of the drone-like existence of a worker bee, by chance he became a mercenary.
