Like Jack's most wanted criminal squad, the atmosphere at "Five-O" was usually quite relaxed. When there weren't any cases, everyone could go about their own business. There was no requirement for anyone to stay in the office; they just had to check in with each other.
Just as everyone packed up and prepared to leave, taking their new "nephew" to try some of Hawaii's best shrimp rice, Danny, who had just been listening to a voicemail, suddenly changed his expression.
"What happened?" Cheng Hao asked curiously, and Kono looked at him with concern.
Danny didn't bother to respond, but simply dialed, "Rachel, where's Grace?
Stay there, I'll be there in five minutes."
He hurried out after hanging up, but stopped and turned back just as he reached the door. Jack picked up his car keys from the table, but instead of handing them to him, he walked out with him.
"What happened? I'll drive."
"Rachel and Grace were carjacked," Danny's lips trembled, and he was momentarily flustered.
"Are they okay?" Kono and Cheng Hao hurried over.
Danny's eyes lost focus for a moment, and he shook his head vigorously, trying to regain his composure. "Not sure yet. They're at the Honolulu Police Department."
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief when they heard it was the police station, not the hospital. Cheng Hao pulled out his car keys. "We'll go with you."
Danny's plainclothes police car was a silver Chevrolet Camaro. "Camaro" means Bumblebee, the prototype of the Autobot Bumblebee from the Transformers movies.
This two-door muscle car was similar to Jack's Firebird, but the back seats were cramped, only wide enough for small children and petite women. Cheng Hao followed behind them in a Ford F-150, also modified with hidden police lights.
HPD (Honolulu Police Department) was close to the Five-O offices, and Jack reached the parking lot in just five minutes. Danny hurriedly got out before the car even stopped.
After Jack parked his car and walked into the police station with Kono and Chenghao, he saw Danny hugging his little daughter, tears welling up in his eyes.
"Aloha!" Jack smiled and greeted Grace. The little girl was incredibly cute and innocent, and upon seeing her handsome older brother, she opened her arms and begged for a hug.
Jack lifted her up with one hand, then, with a flick of his wrist, he pulled a lollipop from between his fingers, making the little girl clap her hands and burst into laughter, her earlier nervousness gone.
Jack handed Grace to Kono, who followed behind him, nodded to Danny, and walked with him to the other side where the brunette was taking a statement.
Grace had clearly inherited her mother's beauty. Danny's ex-wife, Rachel, was a star in both appearance and temperament, with a touch of Sophie Marceau at first glance.
"They forced me to open the car door at gunpoint," Rachel recounted to the officer taking the statement.
"Are you okay?" Danny stepped forward and asked softly, since she was his ex-wife and the mother of his daughter after all.
Rachel still had a bit of panic on her face, and her eyes were very complicated when she looked at Danny. It was as if she had finally seen the backbone of her family and wanted to ask for comfort, but suddenly realized that she was someone else's wife.
"Ms. Edwards." Cheng Hao walked over to the few people with an old Asian police officer, "HPD found your Mercedes-Benz, and the brand-name bags in the car are still there, as well as the cash and credit cards. Nothing was stolen."
"This makes me feel very fortunate, thank you." Rachel forced a smile and thanked the old Asian police officer and Cheng Hao.
Danny frowned, "Mercedes-Benz? Are you driving Stan's car?"
Jack had never met Danny's ex-wife, let alone his current wife, but he had heard from Danny that Rachel was now married to a wealthy businessman, presumably Stan Edwards.
"Yes, he's in Thailand on business, and I sometimes drive his car." Rachel didn't understand why her ex-husband would be interested in this.
Danny and Jack exchanged a glance, and Jack, noticing the hesitation in his eyes, turned and extended his hand to Rachel. "Hello, Ms. Edwards, I'm Jack Tawaller. I believe you've heard Danny mention me."
"Oh, of course. Please call me Rachel." Rachel reached out and shook Jack's hand, a look of surprise on her face. "Danny showed me a picture of you once, but you looked completely different back then."
Jack hadn't sent Danny many pictures of himself, so Rachel probably still only saw his former, bean sprout-like self before his time travel. He gave an awkward smile before making a serious gesture of invitation.
"Okay, Rachel, but I think Danny and I might need to speak with you privately."
Although he didn't yet know the full story, there was clearly something fishy about this carjacking.
While Hawaii's security isn't as high as that of the University of the East, and petty theft and even robbery of tourists' belongings do occur, gun-related crimes are far lower than the average for other parts of the United States.
Carjacking with a gun is a serious crime in Hawaii, and the entire vehicle and its contents were found intact by police within less than an hour. So what was the perpetrator's intention?
The three of them stepped aside. Danny rubbed his brow, pondering his words for a long time before speaking. "First of all, Rachel, I have to tell you that armed carjacking is a felony punishable by at least ten years in prison.
Anyone planning such a felony here, willing to take such a risk, wouldn't give up in just an hour.
If it were about the money, they could easily make at least $20,000 by shipping your car to any country in Southeast Asia. They wouldn't abandon it, let alone take your luxury bag and the cash and credit cards inside. Do you understand me?"
Rachel shook her head in confusion, glancing at Jack for help. "I don't understand. Is he trying to imply something?"
Jack was completely unfamiliar with his young, beautiful "ex-aunt," and even his words wouldn't ring true. He could only tilt his head and wave at Danny, signaling him to listen.
"Has Stan been acting strangely lately?" Danny hesitated for a moment before finally asking.
"No!" Rachel's voice suddenly turned cold, her feminine sensibility taking over her intelligence.
Perhaps it was because he was too familiar with his ex-wife that Danny spoke so cautiously. "I just think that it is very likely that someone wants to convey some kind of message in this way.
A threat or warning, warning Stan that the other party has the ability to hurt you."
"Stop!" Rachel raised her hand to stop him from saying the next sentence. "Stan is my husband, he is Grace's stepfather, and he is also a businessman. He would never be involved in anything illegal."
This illogical explanation did nothing to help except to show her excitement at the moment. "I just want to take Grace home now."
Jack put his hand on Danny's shoulder, stopping him from saying the next sentence. "I think how about this, we send Rachel and Grace home first, and then come back to do some investigation just in case?"
