Lazily lying on a beach chair, drinking iced cola and watching a group of beautiful girls in swimsuits playing in the sea, Jack felt that his whole life was complete.
Next door, there was a group of models in bikinis playing beach volleyball. He used his mobile phone to record this beautiful moment and forwarded it to Reacher, who was now wandering around somewhere unknown.
Before, under the repeated "coercion and inducement" of everyone, the big guy finally agreed to carry an extra mobile phone in his pocket. Of course, he could not guarantee that the phone would always have power. His willingness to charge the phone and turn it on every once in a while was his final concession.
Jack knew Reacher's temper. Since he promised, he would definitely do it, so he took a photo to harass him and remind him that in addition to the mainland, the United States also has such an overseas state to stroll around.
Two long, smooth legs appeared beside the lounge chair. Jack tilted his head and slightly lowered his sunglasses. The thin fabric of his bikini let in a ray of sunlight, shaped like a camel's toe, making one salivate.
"I don't offer sunscreen or massages. The lounge chairs on the left and right are reserved," Jack drawled, sounding a little listless.
This is the result of daily lavish meals. After a heavy meal, even the most delicious food in front of you doesn't whet your appetite.
Anna snorted in displeasure, sat down at Jack's feet, and tossed a document bag onto his chest.
"All the paperwork is done. It's a small apartment in Pearl City. As you requested, I've put some medicine and emergency supplies inside. Weapons and equipment will have to wait until I establish contact with the local black market."
Jack opened the information package, glanced at it, nodded, and put it into the travel bag on the ground. "There's no rush about the weapons. Hawaii has very strict gun laws, so there's no need to force it."
Anna arrived a week later than them, coming to Hawaii for a photo shoot. She is now a contracted model for an entertainment company under the "Shangri-La" name.
Her workload is light, with no deadlines or hard-earned tasks, and her presence within the company is almost invisible.
Since modeling is just a side job, Jack's main task for her is to build safe houses in suitable areas and perform regular maintenance to ensure their reliability.
The rental documents in the information package are Anna's first report card, and Jack thinks it's pretty good.
The Hawaiian Islands are made up of a series of volcanic islands. Due to the terrain and the level of development, Oahu, the most populous island, is not actually the largest.
The largest island is Hawaii, also known locally as the Big Island. Its constantly erupting volcanoes continue to expand its size.
Oahu is only the third largest of the Hawaiian Islands, with Maui being the second largest, but it accounts for two-thirds of Hawaii's population.
Famous landmarks and attractions, such as Honolulu, the capital of Hawaii, Pearl Harbor, Hanauma Bay, and Waikiki Beach, where Jack was currently sunbathing, are all located on Oahu. Pearl
City, as its name suggests, is a city near Pearl Harbor. Anna's rented apartment is close to the city center, with convenient access to a network of side streets, giving it a secluded feel.
The former secret service agent's professionalism was impeccable, and Jack looked through photos of the apartment's location and could see nothing wrong with it.
"It's nothing, I'm leaving now. Those two lionesses of yours are looking at me like they want to eat me alive." Anna looked at the crowd of beautiful women approaching from the beach and instinctively chose a strategic retreat.
There was no way. She wasn't afraid of anyone in a one-on-one fight, but she really couldn't defeat Hannah and Jiejie together.
Of course, she couldn't let go of the Tang Monk's fleshy female demon who was already in her grasp. Before leaving, Anna leaned in close to Jack's ear, her breath gently caressing his earlobe, her long silver hair falling just enough to block the view from afar.
"Am I really that unattractive to you?"
Jack could only silently roll his eyes. He knew he was being deliberate, but he could only cough softly, support her shoulders, and push a little distance away, answering the question irrelevantly.
"You have so many hidden injuries, and you have arthritis, yet you still love to go to the beach. I'll find time to help you with some treatment later."
"I'll look forward to it." Although Anna didn't quite understand Jack's meaning, she took it as a tacit agreement and turned away with a triumphant smile.
"Who was that beautiful girl just now?" The girls walked over to Jack's parasol. Hannah and Jiejie remained silent, but Alexis, on the other hand, looked like she was enjoying the fun.
"A banana split and a cocktail I made myself, shut up." Someone, a federal law enforcement officer, knowingly broke the law, offering alcoholic beverages to bribe an underage girl.
Of course, there was no such thing as guilt. He had kept the entire matter of Anna's affairs a secret from Jiejie and Hannah, including everything that had happened in Paris and his arrangements with the former FSB agent.
"How about adding a seafood dinner?" Clay joined in the fun, raising the price. He was shirtless in beach shorts, his newly weaned daughter sitting in his "baby-slinging device" strapped to his chest, babbling and waving her little hands.
His wife, Stella, had recovered well after giving birth, and her swimsuit was flattering. She smiled sweetly as she watched her husband and his friends cheering.
This Hawaii trip was a rare, fully staffed, large-scale team-building trip for the Most Wanted team. Not only did Clay bring his wife and young daughter, but Jubal and Alice also brought their own children.
So, the previous incident was merely a minor topic for everyone. Watching Aubrey's meticulous efforts to please Alice's six-year-old daughter had already satisfied everyone's gossip cravings.
Having promised another seafood dinner, Jack was about to relax on his beach chair when his phone suddenly rang. His heart skipped a beat, and he only breathed a sigh of relief after picking it up and checking the number.
It was Dana Moger's office number, so it didn't seem like anything particularly urgent.
Jack was actually quite apprehensive about this trip. After all, it was a rare occasion for the whole family to get together, and it would be unlucky for them to get into trouble everywhere, like Conan.
The vacation was almost over, and everyone had booked a flight for tomorrow morning. Jubal had undoubtedly informed Dana Moger, and her call at this hour suggested an important mission awaited them.
"Okay, no problem. Leave it to me. No need to change anyone else's schedule. Don't worry, I'll take care of it."
Jack put down the phone amidst the skeptical looks from everyone, a sense of relief finally settling in. "It's not a major assignment. The local FBI office has an escort request."
The FBI's Honolulu office was currently conducting a witness protection assignment for a key witness in a murder case, which was set to go to trial the day after tomorrow.
This key witness had been placed in the WPP (Federal Witness Protection Program), but the Marshals had apparently run out of manpower, so they had temporarily transferred the witness to the FBI.
However, the Honolulu office was obviously short of staff and could only send one agent to accompany and protect this key witness.
Upon learning that a New York FBI team was on vacation in Hawaii, they contacted Dana Moger directly, hoping that after the trial, the New York office would take over the subsequent protection duties, meaning the safe return of the witness to New York.
"Are you sure you can just stay alone?" Jubal didn't distrust someone's abilities; he simply felt a pity that they had come together, only to be left alone on their way back.
"It's okay, it's okay. I can just use a couple of extra days to rest," Jack muttered, rolling over listlessly.
He'd been exhausted the past two days. Anna's appearance had angered his two girlfriends for a while, and he'd finally managed to appease them during his Hawaiian vacation, but it had also left him physically and mentally exhausted.
His female boss had thoughtfully given him a small assignment, allowing him to stay in Hawaii for a few more days and rest up. After all, even the most stoic of appetites would eventually tire him.
The next morning, Jack saw everyone off to the plane and headed to the Five-O offices.
The Secret Service's office was significantly larger than the Most Wanted unit's, and the facilities were no less impressive. It was clear they were well-off.
Jack chatted with a pretty young Asian woman for nearly half an hour before he saw Danny and a middle-aged man, also of Asian appearance, enter the office, carrying two cardboard boxes and eating.
"Is this what you call the office can't do without you? Your partner, Steve McGarrett, is away, so you're the only one running the show?"
Seeing his carefree demeanor, Jack felt he was even more relaxed than he was in New York. At least, while he'd mow the backyard during work hours, that still counted as work.
Danny had an expression that showed that he was a young man who still needed a lot of experience. "You have to learn to adapt to the pace of life on this tropical island. Even if people drive here, they can't walk as fast as you do in New York." He introduced the two parties enthusiastically. "This is Jack, Jack, this is Cheng Hao Kelly, and the beautiful woman next to you is..."
"Keno Kalakaua, we just met." Jack took the initiative to extend his hand to the middle-aged Asian man. "Jack Tawalla, from the FBI."
Cheng Hao, whose hair was meticulously combed, shook Jack's hand, looked up to estimate his height, stared at his face for a long time, and then looked at Danny with a puzzled look.
"Is this the incredible nephew you always talk about?"
"Although we're not blood relatives, Danny treats me like family."
Before Jack could finish his words, Danny practically tiptoed to throw his arm around his shoulders, his face brimming with pride. "Jack was a highly decorated Supervisory Agent in the FBI. He even blew up Central Park to save New York City."
To Cheng Hao and Kono's astonishment, Jack explained, with a mix of laughter and tears, that he hadn't blown up Central Park, but had instead created a pond-sized hole in it.
They sat down and chatted for a while, realizing that "Five-O" was somewhat similar to Jack's current Most Wanted Unit, albeit more like the state police's major crime squad.
"Five-O" currently had only four full members. Steve McGarrett, who had temporarily left, was a Navy SEAL who had previously served in Naval Intelligence and now held the rank of Major.
The other three, including Danny, were all members of the Hawaii State Police. Interestingly, the stern-looking Chenghao Kelly and the sweet, tanned Kono Kalakaua were cousins.
Jack looked at them closely and couldn't see anything in common besides their Asian appearance.
He found Kono's features completely different from the stereotypical Western-American Asian woman. She didn't deliberately draw her eyes to emphasize the elongated look, nor did she have the habit of showing her gums even when she smiled.
This Asian woman wore almost no makeup except for a touch of lipstick, and her smile revealed a faint dimple, giving her a girl-next-door air.
During his vacation in Hawaii, Jack noticed many of these "indigenous" girls.
Native Hawaiians, who have lived in the region for centuries and have diligently maintained their unique culture, seemed much more confident than the Asian immigrants who struggled to assimilate into Western culture.
Perhaps because of Jack's status as Danny's "nephew," the two cousins, who looked so different from each other, quickly treated him like one of their own. They enthusiastically introduced him to interesting places only locals knew about.
This made him regret that he should have come earlier. Perhaps his friends could have become friends with the cousins.
It was only then that Danny realized, "Jack, didn't you say you were taking an early flight back to New York this morning?"
"Plans never change, do they? My colleagues are already on the plane." Jack then explained his new assignment.
For confidentiality reasons, the local FBI office hadn't revealed the witness's whereabouts, only that it was on Oahu and wouldn't be handed over until the trial concluded tomorrow.
This meant Jack had another day off. Just as they were discussing where they would take their "eldest nephew" this afternoon, Danny's phone rang.
Jack glanced at the number and saw it was Rachel, but Danny had simply hung up.
"I thought you were telling me things were going well with your ex-wife," Jack said, surprised.
Danny said confidently, "Do you know what the greatest invention in the world is? The person who invented this thing must have had an ex-wife."
He shook the phone in front of Jack, "This is the tacit understanding between Rachel and I after our relationship has eased. We don't talk directly. If I have a question, I call her. If she doesn't answer, the call goes to voicemail and I leave the question.
Then she calls me and I hang up. She answers my question in the voicemail. This way, we don't have to worry about our quarrels being heard by our daughter."
Jack was stunned when he heard this, until Cheng Hao and Kono nodded slightly at him with the same strange look on their faces, then he said to this guy in a very serious manner.
"Uncle Danny, you know that this will increase my resistance to marriage, right? Thank you for setting an excellent example for me."
I'm sorry for the late update today. I just merged two chapters into one and posted it with the same number of words.
I had been getting a good sleep, but a call from the water delivery this morning broke it. I managed to finish this chapter today. I hope it will be better tomorrow.
