Chapter Three
The forest was still. Only the glow of the sky lit their faces.
Lyra took a step closer. She should not trust a demon, but something inside pulled her forward.
Kael lowered his wings. His red eyes softened when he looked at her. "Why do you not run?" he asked.
"I don't know," Lyra said. "You don't feel like an enemy."
Kael gave a low laugh. "No one has ever said that to me."
Silence stretched between them. Lyra's wings sparkled faintly, and Kael found himself staring. He had seen fire, blood, and war—but never something so gentle.
Lyra felt heat rise in her chest. It was not fear. It was something new.
The sky cracked louder, but neither moved.
In that broken world, a fairy and a demon stood close—drawn to each other by a strange, dangerous feeling.
