Chapter 2:
Lyra stepped out from behind the flowers. Her wings shook, but she didn't run.
The demon watched her. His claws curled, but he did not attack.
"Who are you?" Lyra asked, her voice soft.
The demon's eyes glowed. "I am Kael," he said. His voice was rough, but not cruel.
Lyra's heart pounded. She had heard demons were evil, but Kael looked… lost.
"I should fear you," she whispered.
Kael gave a faint smile, bitter and tired. "And I should destroy you. But I won't."
The sky cracked again, thunder rolling. The ground shook. Both of them looked up.
The world was breaking. Yet, in that moment, neither of them cared.
They were looking at each other....
